Wikipedia:School and university projects/Universitat Jaume I - E-translating
This is the central coordination page for a Spanish to English translation project at the Universitat Jaume I in Castellón, Spain.
In this project, students of the modules TI0931 and TI0932 (Catalan-English Translation I and Spanish-English Translation I, respectively) translate existing Catalan/Spanish Wikipedia articles into English under the supervision of a specialist in translation who is also a native speaker of English; subsequently, these translations are checked and improved by a team of professional translators and academics, before they are published for an international readership. In addition to producing high-quality translation, a crucial objective of this project is to make students understand and accept the need to adhere to a strict set of formal rules, in this case the Wikipedia guidelines, and to take into account the differences between these guidelines in the Spanish, the Catalan, and the English versions of Wikipedia.
Student participants will, initially, draft their translations collaboratively on the project page, which is not readily visible to the public. After they have been marked and revised, these articles will be transferred to the generally accessible Wikipedia pages, making the translations available to a world-wide readership.
