Template

I have removed the template until someone edits it to remove entries like 'preservation' and 'ethics' which are not technologies and should not be listed. I do not know how to remove this from the template myself and would appreciate if someone did it for meSupposed 15:26, 15 May 2006 (UTC) :This Template Is just what it calls itself. Template:Environmental science. Environmental technology is a type of Environmental science. This template helps readers navigate from one Environmental science to the next. In other related topics this template also includes subtopics of Environmental technology When you include more input. {{Template:Environmental science|envtech=true}}:If you removed 'preservation' and 'ethics' from the template it would remove it from all the articles under the Environmental science umbrella topic.:Other Templates with Parent and Child topics can be seen on other pages like Retinae#External links Note how On this page 2 templates are used. One for parts of the Retina and one for parts of the Eye. This template goes further as to shoe the parent topics all the way back to the Sensory system. I suggest you re add this template hear and elsewhere where you removed similar templates. In the future if you have a problem with the template you should go to the templates page and discuss that there. That way the problem would fix itself on all related pages. Also to change Back and forth between a link [[X]] and a template {{X}}. So for the template use {{Template:Environmental science|envtech=true}} and for a link use [[Template:Environmental science|envtech=true]] envtech=true. The first comment I made is on the template page. I think this template would be better put under the 'civil engineering' or 'environmental engineering' umbrella as these technologies are more related to those than the fields of Environmental sciences. What technologies?

Environmental technology template

I'd like to replace the Environmental technology template with one that matches the standard navbox style, i.e. horizontal instead of vertical, collapsing and typically placed at the bottom of article pages. I've done a mock up of what this would look like at {{User:Jwanders/ET}}. Figured this was a big enough change that I should post before going ahead with it. The "environmental technologies" and "cleantech/clean technology" articles should not be merged. They may overlap but that doesn't mean they are fungible. The social, political and economic issues driving each of these two domains are sufficiently distinct to warrant separate articles.thunderstix

Support the merge, under the name "Envrionmental technologies." We could add sections in this article about how the various entities (industry, government, and environmentalists) have approached the discourse with respect to green technologies, thus alleviating thunderstix's problem. I agree with thunderstix. The sections should not be merged. "Environmental technologies" seem to be aimed at protecting the environment, while often "clean technology" is more about oil independence, addressing growing energy demands, and industry transformation. I'm writing my dissertation on the emergence of cleantech. From my research I can tell you that environmental technologies is a phrase that emerges in the mid 90s driven primarily by politicians. Clean technologies also shows up in the 90s but gains no traction until 2002 when the term cleantech is coined by a professional service firm and adopted primarily by venture capitalists, other professional service firms, and some producers. In the last decade, cleantech and clean technologies has gained enormously in popularity with about 5000 article mentions in 2010 while environmental technologies has declines with about 1000 mentions in 2010. This suggests that if the two terms were to be combined, they should be combined under cleantech/clean technologies. I would argue, however, that cleantech and envirotech should not be combined. Right they appear to distinct in regard to what kinds of organizations claim the terms. In time, they may merge to mean the same things to the same people. Abbreviated names

I've been working through the edits of a user with a peculiar and dubious edit history. On February 18, 2008 that user introduced into this article the abbreviations "EnviroTech" and "GreenTech", which still exist in smaller-case form. Since most of this user's previous edits were suspicious, can someone please verify that the terms "envirotech" and "greentech" actually exist in the lexicon of Environmental Technology? If they are dubious, can someone delete them? Thanks!

The third abbreviated term, "cleantech", had been added to the article two months prior and already had an article of its own, so I'm not concerned with it. ——Rich jj (talk) 20:38, 18 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The following was added to the recycling section, but was cut-and-paste plagiarized from the stated source. It does hold potential for inclusion, however:

PCBs are self-contained modules of interconnected electronic components formed by a thin layer of conducting material deposited, or "printed," on the surface of an insulating board. The material released to the environment it is toxic, but with that the PCBs also are rich source for metals and the material could be recovered and reused The technology involves crushing PCBS in tons of scrap b separation of the metallic and non-metallic materials with electrical field.

Electrochemical Technologies for wastewater treatment. It suggests using the green electrical energy, which provides the photovoltaic (PV) cells. PV generators are non-polluting, silent and have long life compare to other generator. In addition, these are low cost in maintenance. Which are actually being researched to decrease the economic cost of solar KW. The aim for this research is to use the photovoltaic for the treatment for the wastewater. The electrochemical method has achieved the relevant place for the wastewater treatment. To use organic pollutants either by using different electrodes or by cathodic generation of hydrogen peroxide. This article goes on describing the experiment and results, which supports their argument that the treatment is low cost with that it is an easier way to treat wastewater. It also states that the Electrochemical syntheses powered by photochemical energy and removal of heavy metals. [1]

A program which is used to purify water in USA is known as EPANET. it is a program, which regulates the water level, which is use for regular use of life.it is capable of detecting toxins in water system, environmental changes and Global warming and climate changes effect. This program simplifies the process of building piping networks.Pipe networks consist of pipes, nodes( Junctions), pumps, valves, and storage tanks and reservoirs.EPAnet track measure the flow of the water in each pipe.EPANET was developed to help water to utilities maintain and improve the quality of water, this program can be used to sampling the programs .EPANET was highly received in the market because it was distributed freely, and has what is even today considered the industry standard computational engine. It removed the cumbersome Hardy-Cross procedure from models and introduced what is termed "The Hybrid-Gradient Algorithm" that takes the network and writes it into a series of linear equations. [2]

Several treat contaminated air streams include incineration, carbon adsorption, condensation, and scrubbing. The Biofiltartion way has been approve for Air purification treatment. Biofiltration consists of vessel containing a porous support medium, with an attached biofilm through which a contaminated gas in passed. The attached biofilm will first absorb and then degrade the incoming contaminants. Biofiltration technology is similar to that attached growth media filled Biofilters. The main objectives of gas-phase Biofiltration processing may simply be that of remediating a malodorous gas streams by removing the chemicals.[3]

Phytoremediation is used for plants to remove and/or biotransform contaminants. This process is comparable to that constructed wetlands.Both applications make use of macro and micro scale biology and both of them captured much attention eventhough they both still are evolving technologies. Phytoremndiation is that of biologically remediating contaminated soils, sediments, and waters (surface and ground water). The second phytoremediation system may employ trees as well as smaller plants as the primary biological agent. Soil and groundwater Bioremediation system can be engineered and maintain to provide a considerable variety of different biochemical mechanisms the specific mode and implementation of which may then be modified on a site. Phytoremediation is useful in these circumstances, because natural plants or transgenic plants are able to bio accumulation these toxins in their aboveground parts, which are then harvested for removal. The heavy metals in the harvested biomass may be further concentrated by incineration or even recycled for industrial use. [4]

Mycoremediation is a form of bioremediation in which fungi are used to decontaminate the area. In an experiment conducted in conjunction with Thomas, a major contributor in the bioremediation industry, a plot of soil contaminated with diesel oil was inoculated with mycelia of oyster mushrooms; traditional bioremediation techniques (bacteria) were used on control plots. After four weeks, more than 95% of many of the PAH (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) had been reduced to non-toxic components in the mycelial-inoculated plots. It appears that the natural microbial community participates with the fungi to break down contaminants, eventually into carbon dioxide and water. Wood-degrading fungi are particularly effective in breaking down aromatic pollutants (toxic components of petroleum), as well as chlorinated compounds (certain persistent pesticides; Battelle, 2000). [5]

Environmental remediation is the removal of pollutants or contaminants for the general protection of the environment. This is accomplished by various chemical, biological, and bulk movement methods, in conjunction with environmental monitoring. Such as Bioremediation, Phytoremediation.(encyclopedia of medical concepts)[6]

A system makes it possible to control the heating of building with the weather forecasts. It saves energy and with when it adjust the inside temperature with outside temperature and makes forecast control accessible to all without any need to change existing installations in the building. The heating of the building not only depends on the outdoor temperature it is controlled by an equivalent temperature taking into account all weather parameters and calculating the buildings energy balance. [7]

Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC or OTE[8]) Which is by using solar energy convert OTEC technology to thermal energy into ocean and convert into electricity but uses temperature which differ from water temperature and surface temperature. If I introduce more information about clean technology on Wikipedia, many more people will benefit from it. [9]
