Squad Vandalism
[edit]@Bs1jac: Kindly confirm if squad info needs to be modified or is it ok. Someone has been adding opinin pieces which though coming from authentic references but are not part of the protocol being followed. I remember Lugnuts being very strict about maintaing pages in similar format. Ankurc.17 (talk) 17:05, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
I would please ask Ankurc.17 (talk) not to refer to my editing as vandalism, as I have explained to them at some length my rationale for inclusion of the material they deleted, and they should therefore be well aware that my edit was made in good faith.

Most of the deleted paragraph contained material that was entirely factual, and not a matter of opinion. If there had been an objection to the description of Lawrence's batting as "poor", then the correct course of action would have been to remove the phrase concerned (which would have been a straightforward exercise) rather than the entire paragraph.

Ankurc.17 (talk) has argued that no other information should be given in sections on squads, other than a list of squad members. However, I have pointed out to them a very recent example where this was not the case. Furthermore, I see no reason why a brief description of squad changes should not be included here, since it is relevant contextual information and is likely to be if interest to readers. Whilst I am in general agreement that a degree of consistency between articles is desirable, the maintenance of consistency is pointless as an end in itself.

Especially where adherence to a status quo impedes the improvement of articles!!

Proposal to reinstate deleted text
[edit]The proposal is to reinstate the text deleted by Ankurc.17 (talk) from the Squads section.
Please see comments under the previous heading.
Options:
(i) To reinstate the text in its original version;
(ii) To reinstate the text with an amended final sentence, so that it reads "With the return of Zak Crawley following injury, there was no place for Dan Lawrence, who had "struggled as an opener" in the three-match home series against Sri Lanka that summer.";
(iii) Not to reinstate the text.
The original final sentence is a balanced summary of press articles consulted, not just the sources cited. However, replacing "performed poorly" by "struggled as an opener" (in quotation marks), it is then obvious that the assessment comes from one of the two sources listed.
Comments are requested.
