Assess : newly added and existing articles, maybe nominate some good B-class articles for GA; independently assess some as A-class, regardless of GA status.
Cleanup : * Sport governing body (this should-be-major article is in a shameful state) * Field hockey (History section needs sources and accurate information - very vague at the moment.) * Standardize Category:American college sports infobox templates to use same font size and spacing. * Sport in the United Kingdom - the Popularity section is incorrect and unsourced. Reliable data is required.
* Fix project template and/or "to do list" Current version causes tables of content to be hidden unless/until reader chooses "show."
A fact from El Monte Legion Stadium appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 17 May 2023 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that when the dance permit for El Monte Legion Stadium was revoked, Johnny Otis accused the local city council of racism and, with the ACLU and NAACP, successfully reversed their decision?

... that the rock and roll shows at El Monte Legion Stadium(pictured) hosted by Art Laboe and Johnny Otis were deemed "unhealthy" and "unwholesome" by the local city council? Source: "Art Laboe ... and [Johnny] Otis began staging the majority of their dances at the American Legion Stadium in El Monte ... In 1956, the El Monte City Council revoked the dance permit they had issued ... on the grounds that 'rock and roll creates an unwholesome, unhealthy situation,' but Otis fought back against what he called "racism, under the guise of all-American morality." Arguing that the decision was designed to prevent youth race mixing, Otis, joined by ... representatives of the American Civil Liberties Union, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, and the recently integrated musicians' union Local 47, successfully pressured the council into rescinding their ban." Comment: DYK coming soon... Also, I have one or two more ALTs to offer, but I need to wrap things up for now. I'll pass on the additional ALTs, unless requested to do so. QPQ finished!
In the late 50s and early 60s we went to the stadium to watch live Roller Derby. The games were hosted by Dick Lane, a local TV personality, and were broadcast on channel 5, an independent station. 63.233.221.68 (talk) 15:22, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
When creating this article, I came across a few mentions of its use for roller derby. Unfortunately, the material I found wasn't sufficient to go into length in the article, but I did include mention of its use for roller derby. Let me try looking up Dick Lane in newspaper archives; maybe something turns up that allows one to expand on Legion Stadium's roller derby use. Thanks for letting me know. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 16:32, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
