Ankh?

[edit]
Egg-and-dart is also the Egyptian symbol of eternal life which later evaluates into the tzar's sceptre.

Does this mean the ankh? Rojomoke (talk) 12:09, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ineditable babble: who knows?. I also deleted the Egyptian image which bears no egg-and-dart. --Wetman (talk) 10:13, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is this section really pertinent? Suggest removing this; possibly relocate to an article about the song if the song is deemed article-worthy. Also requires references ("It has been noted..." - where? "The allusion is apparently..." - according to...?). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.152.68.245 (talk) 00:55, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. I'll go ahead and remove the Pop Culture section since it's been years since your comment and no one has said anything to support its inclusion. It's always a drag when you look something up something real on wikipedia like 'CAT scan' and half the article ends up being a list of futurama episodes or whatever. --24.60.170.127 (talk) 20:23, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ancient name

[edit]

How did the Greeks and Romans refer to this ornament? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.156.126.230 (talk) 08:41, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Greek borrowing from older civilizations

[edit]

egg and dart are certainly not greek motifs, for example they appear in BMAC statues

BMAC egg and dark motif from 3rd-2nd mil BC

mauryan egg and dart motif

since mauryan egg and dart appear to imitate the BMAC motif which also seem to exhibit a lot of BMAC, indus civilization motifs, and with an addition of one extra hanging element, i think the motif may have moved from east to west and redesigned by the greeks. 115.135.130.182 (talk) 19:17, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In second photo the capital dates from 250BC. The egg and dart is used in Athens at least since the 5th century BC. Not to mention that I don't see the decoration in this photo. Onoufrios d (talk) 11:19, 28 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

From Greece

[edit]

"was used by ancient Roman builders, is found in ancient Greek architecture" ? Greek architecture precedes the Romans. Not to mention that there is no photo from Greece. This is typical on the Acropolis itself.... Onoufrios d (talk) 11:10, 28 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Photo from Greece

[edit]

I think it makes sense to have a photo actually from Greece... How do we do that? Onoufrios d (talk) 14:12, 14 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
