Article movement
This really should be at The Rock or The Rock (actor) or The Rock (entertainer). RickK 04:35, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
- I don't understand why this was changed from his name to The Rock (entertainer). Seems like a pointless change, since his name IS Dwayne Johnson. Eric42 00:33, 25 May 2004 (UTC)
- I also think the move was pointless as he seems to be using his legal name more often for his movie career. --Gerald Farinas 19:00, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- I agree. In the two years since the above post was made, he has increasing been credited as "Dwayne Johnson". I suspect he wishes to move away for his old wrestling image, and I see no reason to continue using his old stage name. The title of the article needs to be changed to "Dwayne Johnson". --Xargon666x6 05:50, 16 Jul 2007 (UTC)
Now he is known as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. not just "the rock". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.188.249.106 (talk) 23:47, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Canadian Football League and Calgary Stampeders
He neever played a regular season game in the CFL or with the Calgary Stampeders. He was cut during training camp. It is incorrect to credit him with this or insist it is so (regardless of how it is spun in the media) Mundster 20:36, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
American
Can't we just call him "an American actor"? - Woodrow 02:37, 27 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Hawaii
What is The Rock's connection with Hawaii? I've heard it on WWE TV before, and he's on the List of famous people from Hawaii but this article makes no mention of Hawaii at all. He wasn't born there, apparently. I always thought he was "from" Miami, but I suppose he just went to school there. Did he live in Hawaii for a stretch? --Feitclub 00:55, Apr 13, 2005 (UTC)
- He was in Miami for college. He lived in Hawaii for a large stretch of his life. Important Hawaii references have been added to the article, pieced together from various articles printed in the Honolulu Advertiser, Honolulu Star-Bulletin and comments made on television interviews. --Gerald Farinas 18:57, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Over a year late, I know, but he's freakin' half Hawaiian, that's his connection to Hawaii. VelvetKevorkian 03:31, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
DDT
"layeth the smacketh down" - The floatover DDT was identified as this throughout late-1999. I believe it's also the term used in the playstation games.
"people's ddt"
- see google
McPhail 18:34, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- IIRC it was called Hurricane DDT back in the old Smackdown games, before Gregory Helms joined WWE with the Hurricane gimmick. I'm pretty sure it was given that name due to The Rock's going to college at the University of Miami and playing football for the school's team, which are the Hurricanes as is all the other sports teams, heh. Question on early stage names
A user from the Wikipedia:Reference desk/Miscellaneous asked:
Hi,
Just wanna know why The Rock (entertainer) used Pidlaoan Rock as one of his stage names?
Thanks.
While the article notes that he used the name, it is silent on why. Thanks if you can help answer the question. Regards.

Birthplace
IMDB[1] and a recent Yahoo! caption[2] both described him as being from New Zealand. Here he is from California. Yahoo! itself says he is from Miami.[3] Which is correct? Stombs 21:10, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
He basically moved all around the world. He was born in California, and lived in Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Florida, etc.
- Anyone have any idea where in Hayward he was born (which hospital), when they left the Hayward area, or what the family might have been doing in the Hayward area at the time?
The Rock's Stats
According to Dwayne himself, he is now "235" lbs. I do not believe he is actually 6'5". When he played football, he was listed as 6'4.5". Can anyone verify his real height? Just wondering. . .
- I imagine WWE (or Johnson himself) just rounds the number up. Six feet, five inches sounds less awkward than six feet, four and a half inches. Jeff Silvers 04:14, 24 November 2005 (UTC)
Please see www.celebheights.com, he's actually about 6' 3.5"
Re: Are we using his real height/weight or his billed height/weight? Because he's billed as 6'5" 255 lbs
Legit stats.(Halbared 23:10, 10 June 2006 (UTC))
The WWE has been known to embellish on the heights of their wrestlers. (ie, most people say that without boot lifts, Chris Jericho is about 5'10" or 11". Kane is often rounded up to "Seven feet tall," and so on) --Unexplainedbacon 12:50, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
He is 6'5" now weighs about 237, want proof hes taller than Jeff goldblum and than Vince Vaughn, both who are accurately 6'4"
The Rock is billed as 275 Ibs ALL THE TIME. AND HE IS 6 FT 5
Well seeing as we already have a citation on the page from Johnson himself giving his height I think it should stay like that with the split between legit and kayfabe. Suriel1981 19:38, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
WCW/"World" Title reigns
Granted the whole issue of "is the World Heavyweight Title belt really the WCW World Heavyweight Title belt?" is subject to all sorts of ambiguity. But when The Rock won the title back from Chris Jericho in November of '01, the inVasion angle was still going on, and the belt was still recognized as being the WCW World Title belt.
The Rock was the WCW Champion at Survivor Series, and the night after Survivor Series, Vince McMahon announced that the WCW Championship would have its name changed to the World Title. But Rock won it as the WCW Title, and allegedly this "World" Title is not of the same lineage as the current-day World Heavyweight Championship.
So, shouldn't The Rock be recognized as a 2-time WCW Champion? ekedolphin 09:52, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

Race
The Rock's father is black/African-American and the Rock has said on numerous occaions(including his book)that he is black/African-American, so shouldn't he be listed under African-American Professional Wrestlers? joe99 MD
I thought the Rock was black! Why isn't his name listed under African-American wrestlers like his dad? Lawboy1906 14:17, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
The Rock has said numerous time that he is African-American AND samoan. He should be listed as BOTH. His father is Rocky Johnson one half of the first African-American WWF/E tag champs and his mother is the daughter of High Chief Peter Maivia. He even describes growing up as a black male in America in his book "The Rock Says." The individuals claiming that he isn't African-Amerian are mistaken. Vince McMahon even called Rock the first African-American Champ on Raw the night after he won the title for the first time.WWE 4 life 14:56, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
His father rocky johnson is african-canadian, he was born in canada. His mom is Samoan. he has said this many times. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.119.56.116 (talk) 21:43, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

"Mystery" racial background
Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson don't brings up the issue very much, but there's speculation of his racial background for years and it's not meant to bother him, doesn't it? It don't matter to me what race he is, but many consider him "black" or African American. Other biographers believe he's not only Black, but White from his mother, perhaps some Hispanic, or possibly Filipino, a bit of American Indian and Polynesian (the Rock claimed Samoan ancestry, which is true). When he started his wrestling career, the announcer said he's "half white Irish, and half mystery man", maybe by the left-over racial stigma on discuss the issue in the 1990s. The Rock had an animated cameo on Family Guy as he "faced off" Stewie Griffin, and the announcer tries to figure what's his race was? It's meant to be humorous, not "racist" or to embarrass him. + Mike D 26 14:23, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- His father is African American and his mother is Samoan. I think this may be a case of "mystery" mostly because Samoa is a small and little known place in the South Pacific. Johnson's racial background has always been well-divulged - see his autobiography The Rock Says for proof - so I think it's a case of people not knowing what they're hearing. "Samoa? What's that?" His Samoan heritage is no secret in Samoa and he has been there on visits a few times, which is a big event for the local Samoans. Hannybanny 03:44, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Im curious to know why him being the first African American World Heavyweight Champion isnt mentioned. It seems that its a pretty important accomplishment yet you erase my edits. It dosent matter if hes part samoan because all African Americans are mixed to some degree. He was leader of the Nation of Domination for christ sakes.--72.240.205.16 01:08, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Surname
Dwayne Johnson? Rocky's real name was Bowles. How does this work.
- Rocky Johnson (Wade Bowles) may have gotten his name legally changed. Katie 01:59, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Dwayne's last name has always been Johnson, as he took his father's stage (Rocky Johnson) last name when he was born. This is made clear in his autobiography.Dwayne however does have two half siblings from his father's first wife that use the last name Bowles proudly. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.32.176.2 (talk) 20:47, 22 January 2007 (UTC).

Doom Salary
is the salary for Doom listed correctly? it seems hard to believe that he would have been paid less for that role that his others. I could very well be wrong, but I'm curious. Katie 01:59, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
Starring Roles
According to multiple sources, he starred in the movie. On top of that, the wikipedia article says: "In 2005, The Rock saw more exposure on the big screen as he starred alongside John Travolta and Uma Thurman in Be Cool..." (emphasis mine). So, either he did or he didn't, but in the end it needs to be internally consistent.
I tend to think he did star in it (his role was big, he has established his stardom from previous lead roles). Therefore, I put it in. ju66l3r 20:17, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Done with wrestling?
has he retired or does he have a legends contract or what?! Big foot123456789 8:52, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
I've heard that he's completely done with it. Whether or not it's actually completely factual right now though is anybody's guess. There's always rumors around this time of year, when WrestleMania is being thought out, about bringing him back to work some sort of angle for WrestleMania. If his movies continue to flop like fish out of water at the box office, he might eventually make a full time return to wrestling. Who knows. Odin's Beard 01:01, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- 'Naw. He's not done with wrestling. I think that's the truth, what's said above. Once he has a movie that sucks pretty badly, he'll need the cashflow, and he'll head back to wrestling for a little while. Besides, it's what the fans want, and the WWE's doing pretty bad enough as it is. Aside from that, there is that sudden surge of rumors going around about it on sites such as www.prowrestlingscoops.com and otherwise. I wouldn't mind an Umaga vs. The Rock match at Wrestlemania 23. :) Qubeh 03:04, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
The Rock is already set for life, and he even makes money from bad movies. The Rock is done with wrestling. He said so on Jim Rome's show. He's retired.69.181.156.67 11:42, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Section: The Rock returns
This recently added piece needs to be cleaned up.
On September 23, 2006, the New York Times interviewed The Rock. They asked him if he will return to the wrestling scene. The Rock did not reply. how ever it is most likely he will continue with his acting...,seems The Rock would never go back to WWE,it can be see on IGN Interview, this words from IGN.com,when they interview him IGN Sports: When you see big events like Wrestlemania, do you ever get the itch to go back to wrestling?
The Rock: Not necessarily. I get excited for those guys because I know what it's like. I get excited for my boys. Between Kurt Angle and John Cena and Rey Mysterio, all those cats. I don't get the itch to go back as much as when I watch the show, I get antsy and frustrated at a lot of things I see. I'm like, damn, I wish they would've said this, or I wish they would've done this, or I wish this dude would've said this in response to that. Other than that, I'm good. They had asked me to be a part of Wrestlemania but I couldn't because of the timing of a movie. Besides, if I go back, it has got to make sense. It has to be someone who it makes sense with.#

The Rock's Acting
Why do alot of people say the rock's acting is horrible and that he is the worst actor?
13 October 2006
- Even in 2006, people still see him as a wrestler, not an actor. Whenever Dwayne is interviewed, he's usually asked the question of "when he's coming back to wrestling", meaning that they definitely haven't forgotten about his wrestling days. The way I see it, when people see Dwayne acting in a film, they think to themselves "Oh, it's The Rock. He's that wrestler. Wrestlers can't act." - or at least they have that sort of mindset.
- His actual acting abilities are obviously based on opinion. Some people like it, some people don't (and those that don't probably still see The Rock as a wrestler). He was nominated on the Golden Raspberry Awards for "Worst Actor" in "Doom", so his acting may not really be considered decent. Personally, though, he just needs to be given a chance, and no one's really willing to give him that chance.
Requested Move to Dwayne Johnson
I think we should move this page to Dwayne Johnson because it is his real name and because he has said himself that he hopes to eventually transition into being known just as Dwayne Johnson. L2K 20:54, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I just read the guidelines and it seems like I can move it without a problem. I will do just that. L2K 21:09, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
- The thing is tho, no one really knows him by his real name. They know The Rock. From a user-friendly point of view, that should be the name of the article. -FateSmiled&DestinyLaughed 22:47, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
- First, "The Rock" is highly disambiguated because it stands for so many things (including 2 different professional wrestlers). Dwayne Johnson is far less problematic in that regard. Secondly, the old article name (that required you to add (entertainer) or something like that) redirects here, so it's still fine that the actual article name be at this location. It's not necessarily user-unfriendly to have it at Dwayne Johnson given the methods for redirecting people seamlessly. I think we should avoid user-unfriendly even if we aren't the most user-friendly in the interest of accuracy and disambiguity (aka clarity). ju66l3r 22:02, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

He said Finally The Rock Has Come Back to Monday Night RAW. He always says that about whatever city he's in, except he wasn't there in that city and he hadn't been on RAW in a while so instead of the normal "FINALLY....The Rock has come back to *city name here*" he inserted Monday Night RAW since he hadn't been on WWE programming in a while. I believe it was a one time taped segment to hype the Donald/McMahon match at WM23 and that he will not be making a return to wrestling anytime soon. Bmg916 Speak to Me 14:22, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- Well, for sure we don't add yet into the article. As far as The Rock coming back to WWE, he mentioned he is back, not including the Finally The Rock has come back part. I don't know if he's back. - We don't know his official return status. What we can speculate is that he is returning sometime after Mania. As I understand it he is inbetween filming, and there's only two films ahead of him. Perhaps he's turning down scripts, or nothing worthwhile is coming his way now. I hope his sabbatacle from wrestling is OVER. What's real cool is that almost no one saw this coming. Tons of wrestling sites are acting completely blitzed by it. Apparently secrets can still be well kept in this industry. AJFederation 06:10, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

On this video interview, [5], Stone Cold says that he hasn't talked to The Rock in a few years, so I don't know how they could be "really good friends" as the article says.

NFL Draft?
Is there any evidence that Dwayne Johnson was drafted by the NFL as the article states, if so, what year was he drafted in? The rock hasnt said this publically but i believe i have discovered where the Rock derives his catchphrase from, I was watching Rocky 3 the other day and Rocky briefly called himself the people's champ and while fighting the crowd were chanting rocky rocky rocky ect, i believe this is where the rock derives his catchphrase of the people's champ from, i'm not sure if this should be mentioned though.

The Rock Splitting Up With His Wife
The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) is to divorce his wife. The statement they (being agents I assume) gave was:
"While certain aspects of our relationship have changed, we are both vitally important to each other's lives. We will continue to advance and manage our business interests, our philanthropic efforts, and most importantly, the raising of our child together as a loving team. We've been fortunate enough to spend the last 17 years together as a couple and look forward to spending the rest of our lives together as best friends and business partners."

Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

The Rock to Dwayne Johnson
I understand "The Rock" wanted to let EVERYBODY know that he goes by Dwayne Johnson now, but I like a lot of people here on Wikipedia know him better as The Rock as well as a bunch of other people, so can I get some support in changing the articles name back to The Rock? -- KBW1 23:14, 21 August 2007 (UTC)
I agree. Most of the world (including Wikipedians) know him as the Rock, therefore I think the article's name should be changed from Dwayne Johnson back to the Rock. Jonesy 10:36, 22 August 2007 (UTC
- If I get enough support we, we can overule it and change the name. We just need more people. -- KBW1 05:24, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- Considering the dozens (and dozens!) of uses for the name The Rock, the new article name would have to include a disamb term, such as The Rock (professional wrestler). Do you actually think that title is better than his real name? Mshake3 05:33, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yes Jonesy 09:48, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
- My vote is to stick with “Dwayne Johnson” because that is how he is being credited in his more recent films. We should not keep it as “The Rock” just because people have warm fuzy sentimental feelings about a stage name he no longer uses. That is to say, “I’m used to calling him ‘The Rock’ ” is not reason enough. Xargon666x6 16:47, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

- Well, with the whole "too many people with "the Rock " why don't we just direct The Rock strait to this page, and then use a disabiguation link at the top of the page. Since The Rock, the wrestler, is way more notable than any other person or place that has "The Rock" as it's nickname. So we should switch it. -- KBW1 02:46, 24 August 2007 (UTC)
- We go by what they are most known as, not what they want to have themselves called. I suggest someone request this be moved back to "The Rock (entertainer)" since he also used the name The Rock for the majority of his acting roles. Thanks to some people messing it up, an admin would have to move it back. TJ Spyke 23:37, 8 September 2007 (UTC)
I agree, it should be moved back to The Rock (Entertainer). Hulk Hogan's article isn't named Terry Bollea, Shawn Michael's isn't Michael Hickenbottom, Triple H's isn't Paul Levesque, ect. We usually use a wrestler's ring name as the article title when the ring name is more well known than the actual name, which is clearly the case here. (Sawyer 19:26, 9 September 2007 (UTC))
- It doesn’t matter what most people know him as. Most people call koalas “koala bears,” but that doesn’t make them bears. Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michael and Triple H haven't gone on to peruse more serious acting careers and been credited by their real name in films. Xargon666x6 21:50 11 September 2007 (UTC)
The article should be 'Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson' with redirects from both Dwayne Johnson and 'The Rock'. He's obviously wanting to move past being 'The Rock' while wanting to still retain the popularity. Such an article title would satisfy both crowds. Pejorative.majeure 23:21, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Political affiliation
There's no source for the claim that he's a Republican or voted for George W. Bush. He spoke at the Republican National Convention, but if I recall it correctly, he claimed it to be a nonpartisan appearance. How does the author know who Johnson voted for - and more importantly, why should it matter? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.251.55.89 (talk) 06:04, August 28, 2007 (UTC)
If their is a source, than theirs no problem adding it. -- KBW1 06:19, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
About the Rock Bottom
Is the name "Side slam" appropriate? I know it is a side slam, but unlike most other users of the move, The Rock drops down with his opponent to make the throw more powerful. Usually, when someone performs a side slam, they kneel, but don't drop down.
Therefore I believe that the name "Dropping side slam" is more proper. What do you think? TheCursed 12:56, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Article name change
- Eventually I'm going to request a name change to this article aWikipedia:Requested moves. Thank You. -- KBW1 04:00, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
- Nevermind everybody, the name got changed. Thanks anyways! -- KBW1 05:15, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
"Yeah, I'm going to need you (all) to not move this article to a new name space every month or two. That would be great, thanks." --Naha|(talk) 13:25, 14 September 2007 (UTC)
No need. Hybrid sabatoged ALL the redirects. :) -- KBW1 02:40, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
Confirmed. --The Hybrid 03:24, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- I have no idea what that means. --Naha|(talk) 03:46, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- If the target title for a page move has a page history other than the creation of a redirect, then the page cannot be moved to that title. Therefore, if a user makes a dummy edit, such as the insertion of an invisible period (.), then this article cannot be moved to the new title over the redirect. So, now if someone wants to move this page they will have to ask an admin to delete the redirect, which they will never do since such a page move would violate WP:NCCN. So, problem solved. The Hybrid 03:55, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- I still have so much to learn. --Naha|(talk) 04:06, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

- Basically in simpler terms, NO BODY, excluding an admin (which they won't do it anyways, since it clearly violates WP:NCCN) will change the title of this page. -- KBW1 06:28, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- Rather than saying nobody will change the title, saying that nobody can change the title would be more accurate. I made it impossible for anyone without the ability to delete pages to move this page. Peace, The Hybrid 06:36, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I meant can. People still, I assume, will try to move the page, but thanks to Hybrid we won't have to worry about it. :) -- KBW1 07:14, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
He wasn't "origionally known as Rocky Miavia
He was originally known as Flax Cavana. Rocky Miavia was a later gimmick in the WWF/E. This should be reworded/removed/changed.
-->What is the correct spelling, though? "Flex Cavana" or "Flex Kavana"? I will keep it "Flex Cavana" for now. TheCursed 18:54, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
yeah well i guess the tag at the top says i'm not supposed to say this
i think he's the narrator in a new indigenous film about Samoan wrestling or some such. someone may want to look into it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.190.109.88 (talk) 04:34, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

- Thats what i thought, i was so exited to see that, but iv been disapointed. i watched every eppisode of raw and still am doing it but he never seems to show up. --Metal to the Max! 11:48, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Some anons have been posting that the Rock will come back in a RAW special or something. Post away when he has finally appeared, ok? Eaglestorm (talk) 14:51, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
We need more pictures
We desperately need more pictures of Dwayne Johnson, both as a wrestler and as an actor. —Preceding unsigned comment added by TheCursed (talk • contribs) 10:20, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
'African American'
Being of Canadian-African Samoan lineage does not make you ' African-American'. 82.29.82.118 15:49, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
The Rock is listed in Witch Mountain

Should it be added in Filmography? —Preceding unsigned comment added by IHaveADollar (talk • contribs) 11:44, 29 October 2007 (UTC)
His myspace dosen't exist
Everytime I try and access his myspace it just goes to the main page of myspace which is odd cause I have been on his page before and he even added me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.172.40.140 (talk) 09:39, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Myspace
There is no proof that the myspace page listed on the article isn't just one of the many fake ones. I'm removing it until someone can prove that it is legit. (Sawyer (talk) 23:04, 5 December 2007 (UTC))
Move to Dwayne Johnson
This article needs to be moved to Dwayne Johnson. "The Rock" is a stage name that is no longer being used by Mr. Johnson, he is no longer working in professional wrestling, and he is being billed in motion pictures under that name now. Paul Harald Kaspar (talk) 20:29, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Although I can't find a source, I heard his latest football movie was the last time he would be using "The Rock" moniker. So I agree. Mshake3 (talk) 21:44, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
