Live

[edit]

Anyone seen him live? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Staygyro (talkcontribs) 15:58, 26 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who's disputing neutrality? Plus suggestions.

[edit]

I don't understand that flag on this article. Nothing on this discussion page questions the content, nor do I see questionable material.

A discography would be a nice addition -- easily sourced via the many sites for Hvorostovsy online.

Also notable about this artist is his devotion to Russian music in many forms. Through recitals, performance and recordings, he has drawn new audiences to not only operas of Russia, but also its choral music, its folk music and song cycles (his performances live and recorded of Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death are unparalleled), songs from the Soviet experience of WWII and recent popular songs. His devoted audience among Russian emigres in the United States, as well as his following among the current citizens of the post-Soviet Russian states, is remarkable, in no small part due to his attention to neglected Russian musicology. This, too, can be documented through online sources such as Opera News.

I am a newcomer to Wikipedia, and do not feel competent to add to the article, but encourage these additions.

In answer to the previous comment, yes, I've heard Hvorostovsky live from the audience on numerous occasions in many locations, and have had the privilege of appearing with him in performances with the San Francisco Opera, one of his favorite companies. He is a consumate professional and a gracious individual. His artistry and charisma cannot be questioned. Marshagalinsky (talk) 06:37, 3 April 2008 (UTC)fragileindustries[reply]

I agree that the neutrality tag is unnecessary. I will remove it. --Kleinzach (talk) 11:03, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Substandard photo

[edit]

Surely this grainy photo is not good enough for an encyclopedia? Can we remove it? --Kleinzach 04:46, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've got far worse in the Oxford Companion to Music! Is there a guideline on minimum resolution? It might not be a great picture, but at least its accurate. And at least its relatively close-up: you should see some of the photos of tennis players... almost-instinct 08:26, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
But you can't even see his face! --Kleinzach 10:02, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, but the hair, the famous hair—almost a metaphor for his splendiforous vocal tone ;-) almost-instinct 14:31, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More seriously, there's a much better one on DH's page on the Russian WP. Are we able to filch it? Mind you, it's probably not wise to go upsetting any Russians at the mo. almost-instinct 14:36, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to copy the picture from the Russian page (amongst the Cyrillic I could recognise the letters "jpg") but it didn't work. These things def beyond my ken almost-instinct 11:10, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's gotten to the point that it is almost pointless to ad to Wikipedia pages; almost everything is deleted, it seems. Nevertheless, I am pretty sure there is a contact page at his website. Why don't you contact that website for a picture that can be used. From a brief survey, there is a concerted effort on the Internet to have a good presence, so I am sure they would provide a photo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.4.143.45 (talk) 17:14, 16 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Could we use one of the photos on his Facebook site? I understand pics on FB are not under copyright... right? --85.71.235.141 (talk) 23:13, 7 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Health problems

[edit]

According to his web site and other sources, Hvorostovsky has cancelled all summer performances due to a brain tumor diagnosis. I hope somebody can research this (easy to check with a web search) and update the page. A very sad development. Opus131 (talk) 06:02, 30 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

UPD 11.22.2017 Russian official media tells Dmitri Hvorostovsky has died on the evening of 21 Nov. Author (-s) pls verify and make changes to article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.140.114.50 (talk) 13:37, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
All sources that I saw, including TASS, report November 22 (a date impossible to forget). The Facebook message, shown here, say the same. What's your source? -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 14:40, 22 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Return to Met

[edit]

I have added links and sources about Hvorostovky's triumphant return to the Met. It still could be expanded upon. SpiritedMichelle (talk) 02:16, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
