This is wrong

What about the Atlantian princess from the Disney movie Atlantis: the lost empire remember her she is as much of a princess as the others named in this site remember her Princess 'Kida' Kidagakash Theskyisthelimit101 (talk) 08:45, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

This is an article about a specific business franchise, not about all Disney princess-type characters. Unless they are added, basically as evident on the official website, then they are not included. For example, Elsa and Anna from Frozen are princesses per Disney but not per the Disney Princess franchise.--☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 01:45, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

A section about additions not yet officially added to the business franchise (?)

In response to several suggestions mentioned above^ it may be beneficial to have a section listing 'other Disney princesses not a part of the franchise' or something to that effect. In addition to that there should probably also be a section of characters who have been marketed as such in the past, i.e.: Esmerelda, and Meg. With Anna and Elsa -- though they may not yet be official members of the franchise, they too have received Disney Princess Animator's Collection in which they are depicted as babies, like all other Disney Princesses. So maybe a section titled 'Unofficial Members' is best suited for all of these characters. It would help with all the confusion. Burningblue52 (talk)

This is an article about the franchise, and as such cannot just "add" unofficial members. Just like a sports team which has a roster, anyone not on it is not on the team. Any addition of non-members would need to be reliably sourced as to their reason for exclusion and not just some opinion-mongering or blog rant.--☾Loriendrew☽ (ring-ring) 02:08, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Esmeralda exclusion

I removed the Esmeralda exclusion section as it was predicated but not supported by sources that Esmeralda was an original Disney Princess (moviepilot.com doesn't support it, but is cite in the article). But the New York Times article that sources them in the history and CBS News doesn't mention her as an original. Nor could I turn up any other sources supporting that she was a Disney Princess. If some one want to rewrite it, I would not be opposed. Spshu (talk) 14:18, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Deadpool is NOT a Disney Princess yet

Yes, it looks like Disney is buying 20th Century Fox, but that does not mean Deadpool automatically becomes a Disney Princess. Please do not add Deadpool until his coronation is officially announced, which will probably not be until after Deadpool 2 is released.

Just hoping to nip this in the bud. — Narsil (talk) 21:31, 14 December 2017 (UTC)

Hmmm... Deadpool is a male character who likes to cross-dress. He is also a mercenary and professional assassin. Would he fit the definition of a "princess"? Dimadick (talk) 10:12, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
What character is a "Disney Princess" is whomever Disney decides to declare by way of a "coronation" is one. This is a marketing decision by Disney and Disney's inclusion criteria is murky at best. Nothing goes in this article that has not been officially declared a Disney Princess by Disney and that applies to all possible members not just this one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geraldo Perez (talkcontribs) 11:11, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
My point exactly! So nobody should add Deadpool until it’s officially announced. — Narsil (talk) 03:59, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Official Disney Princesses that aren't part of the Princess franchise

I would like to see a section which makes note of actual Disney princesses that are not part of the Princess franchise, but are nonetheless official Disney princesses. An explanation as to why these princesses are excluded from the franchise is really what I'm looking for, even if the princesses aren't directly named.

For example, Princess Eilonwy from The Black Cauldron, is an official Disney princess who is never included as part of the Princess franchise (probably because Eilonwy is the better princess, thus she doesn't belong in the same lineup... but that's an unencyclopedic opinion).
Christopher, Sheridan, OR (talk) 06:16, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

That issue is covered in the second paragraph of the lead section. The scope of this article is the Disney Princess media franchise, not to list every Disney character with a princess title. Geraldo Perez (talk) 06:22, 4 June 2018 (UTC)

Exclusions

I understand that non-disney princesses (Anastasia (1997 film)) and unpopular princesses (Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire) are excluded: but why Anna (Frozen), Elsa (Frozen) and Moana (2016 film)? They are technically princesses and they are in the princess scene in Wreck it Ralph 2. Pikazilla (talk) 19:47, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

See the first two paragraphs of the article for an explanation. Disney makes the decisions based on marketing and what adds value to the Princess Line franchise. Geraldo Perez (talk) 19:57, 20 August 2018 (UTC)
Those first two paragraphs also say "as of 2013", though. That year is mentioned elsewhere too. It looks like the entire article is 5-year outdated. Kumagoro-42 (talk) 09:27, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
There have been no additions to the lineup since then so the article is not outdated. The {{as of}} in the lead is unnecessary. It is Disney who hasn't been adding characters to the lineup and the article is reflecting what Disney has done with the franchise pretty much to date. Geraldo Perez (talk) 19:39, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

Merida

"and the first to not on-screen in her film" First to no do what on-screen? --Khajidha (talk) 10:15, 21 February 2019 (UTC)

Sing, apparently. The word seems to have been accidentally deleted in this edit. I'll go ahead and restore it. Novusuna talk 02:57, 22 February 2019 (UTC)

Crowned, not coronated

Crowned is the right word. The references say "coronation", not "coronated". "Coronated" just isn't standard English, and coronation is a ceremony where someone is crowned, not coronated. Disney itself does not use coronated it uses crowned

PepperBeast (talk) 20:52, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

Crowned is not really correct either as these are supposed to be princesses, not monarchs, and as such would properly be given and wear a coronet as a sign of princess rank. Of course Disney can do what they want and call it whatever they desire. It is easier to just go with what Disney says without interpretation. Geraldo Perez (talk) 21:15, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

Esmeralda

Browsing around the internet, I found unsourced claims that Esmeralda used to be part of the official Disney Princess line-up up until 2004, when she was removed due to poor sales. I've managed to find licensed merchandise from 2003-04 that do include her in the official line-up (alongside Tinker Bell whose removal is already mentioned in the article,) and officially licensed dolls of her under the Princess brand. Trying to find more information from the very early days of the Princess line is proving to be difficult though, does anyone know any leads that could shed more light on this? I'm not comfortable adding Esmeralda to the article's history section because I can't find anything I could actually cite, and help would be much appreciated.

Anna & Elsa

Recently, Anna and Elsa have been announced to be put into the franchise as official Disney Princesses, and are to have a virtual coronation.

AurelioAugustus (talk) 00:14, 15 April 2020 (UTC)

Needs a reference, preferably from Disney. Geraldo Perez (talk) 00:21, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
It was an April Fool's Day prank. 47.187.213.131 (talk) 00:05, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Anna and Elsa's pictures have been added to the brand new official website. [1] However, when you click on their pictures it takes you to the website for the Frozen franchise. And1987 (talk) 20:26, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, so they are like "Honorary Members", but are not official members. An example is that in the website is seen the ad "Catch up with Princess and Frozen on the Disney Princess YouTube", being mentioned as another franchise, like a "sister franchise". But in short, Anna and Elsa are not official members of the franchise, just "guest members". --BrookTheHumming (talk) 15:04, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Mirabel

I strongly support that any message that's visible when editing the article should emphasize Mirabel (you'll probably know more about her later in 2021) as someone we shouldn't add to this franchise. Any thoughts here?? Georgia guy (talk) 16:39, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

The thing is that simple: Not because Disney releases a film with a heroine she is automatically a Disney Princess. Otherwise the franchise would be flooded with Alice, Wendy Darling, Tinker Bell, Maid Marian, Eilonwy, Esmeralda, Kida, (and in Pixar's case) Atta, Dot, Jessie, Bo Peep... In short, there is a difference between "Disney Princesses" and "Disney Heroines". - BrookTheHumming (talk) 10:16, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

Anastasia

The movie Anastasia is included in the Princesses category on Disney+. A comment on this YouTube video says so: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AL8qLEUkDOM 47.187.213.131 (talk) 23:45, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

A comment from someone who doesn't represent Disney is meaningless. Geraldo Perez (talk) 23:58, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Then, I suggest looking at Disney+ itself. Even if it is meaningless, that comment would not be made unless whoever posted it looked there. 47.187.213.131 (talk) 00:01, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
It doesn't matter what is stated on other Disney locations, https://princess.disney.com, the official site, is the defining list of which characters are in the franchise. This article is about the franchise, not every character with the title "princess". When Disney decides to add to the franchise they will update the official site. Geraldo Perez (talk) 00:14, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
That was my point. 47.187.213.131 (talk) 01:17, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
That category is "Princesses", not "Disney Princesses". A category about films and TV series with princesses, also including Princess Diaries, Princess Protection Program, Secret Society of Second-Born Royals, among others. - BrookTheHumming (talk) 01:31, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
Additionally, the franchise is called "Disney Princess" because they are from films produced by Walt Disney Pictures. - BrookTheHumming (talk) 10:24, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

Asha

I was wondering if Asha from Disney's upcoming animated film Wish (2023) will become an official Disney Princess. Who knows when she'll be one of them? Esagurton (talk) 09:17, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Whether it is or not will depend on what those in charge of the franchise decide, since Wikipedia is not a place to speculate if each future heroine of a new animated film by Walt Disney Pictures will become a Disney Princess. MaxBertín (talk) 16:02, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
