Requested Move
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
Why is the official title "Disney's The Kid?" It's weird. I mean, it wasn't MGM's Gone With The Wind, or Miramax's Pulp Fiction, or Universal's Back To The Future. I don't get it. --Jnelson09 23:04, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- This should be moved back to "The Kid (2000 film)". The movie's title is "The Kid" and it is not "Disney's The Kid". All films that are require disambiguation use the year released and the word film. There is no reason why we don't do it here. Vivaldi (talk) 01:58, 21 April 2007 (UTC)
- Comment; I agree that the article should be at The Kid (2000 film), because most people refer to this film as "The Kid". However, the correct title of the film is "Disney's The Kid". IMDb doesn't list it as that because they have a policy of removing author/creator/studio names when they are part of the title. If you look at the IMDb page, they do actually say that "Disney's The Kid" is the complete title. Masaruemoto 21:07, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

WP:NC(F) is largely silent on the matter, but does not explicitly mandate any but the official title of a film. It may be argued that WP:NC(CN) overrules this (especially given IMDb's treatment of the title), but this would need broader input before being implemented. Perhaps bring the issue up at WP:FILM. It was requested that this article be renamed but there was no consensus for it be moved.
- There must be some old previews on old Disney videos, but I remember the promotions for this film did refer to it as Disney's The Kid. In fact, IMDB lists the complete US title as such. See http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0219854/releaseinfo#akas. --Wolfer68 (talk) 07:09, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
- It just aired on cable and the channel information displayed it as "Disney's The Kid". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.63.89.37 (talk) 03:43, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Expert
[edit]I say an expert needs to rewrite this plot summary, it's all sorts of bad grammar. Lots42 (talk) 02:05, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Name Change
[edit]I changed the name of the co-star to the correct costar. Spencer Breslin was the young Rusty, not the other actor previously credited. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.104.25.235 (talk) 20:05, 26 November 2009 (UTC)
The airplane
[edit]What type of aircraft was used for the full-scale red plane? Whas it a 'model' aircraft, or a 'full size' aircraft?? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.176.109.13 (talk) 14:47, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
The Kid by Disney 2000
[edit]I am amazed that no one has credited this story line to Richard Bach's "Running from Safety"; first written in 1994. The film is obviously based on this book, tho the book gives more food for thought than the screen version, obviously edited for the "masses". Television section
[edit]The Television section is pretty poorly written and difficult to understand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.217.183.225 (talk) 04:12, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Disney's The Kid → The Kid (2000 film) – It doesn't really need to be called "Disney's The Kid". ZX2006XZ (talk) 16:08, 27 February 2022 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). ZX2006XZ (talk) 16:09, 27 February 2022 (UTC)— Relisting. Turnagra (talk) 04:14, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
- Support - When it comes to Disney films, they sometimes have the term "Disney's" as a prefix, but this is often ignored in publications. The Kid (2000 film) fits the naming guidelines much better. (Oinkers42) (talk) 04:34, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose as the present title provides a natural disambiguation. Note that the "Disney's" seems to be part of the film's title. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 16:43, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support per (Oinkers42)'s point. Tree Critter (talk) 08:22, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- Comment leaning support - Some like Rotten Tomatoes, IMDb, and some of the official disney websites call it just The Kid, while others like D23.com, rodgerebert.com, and fandomwiki use Disney’s The Kid. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaleeb18 (talk • contribs) 14:52, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose because it seems like reliable sources use either "The Kid" or "Disney's The Kid", and since we need to disambiguate this film title from other film titles, the latter option is a natural disambiguation that can be used. Furthermore, to me it is more informative than "(2000 film)". We use release years to disambiguate titles because they're permanent markers, but this natural approach makes this film title completely distinct. This approach doesn't mean that this film can't be listed at The Kid or that The Kid (2000 film) can't redirect to here. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 17:07, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- Comment - I do wish to mention that The Kid (2000 film) fits Wikipedia:Naming conventions (films). (Oinkers42) (talk) 17:10, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oh, I agree completely. If we never had "Disney's" prefixed, I would support "(2000 film)". I think both options are valid, and I made the case that the current title is more valid. Feel free to raise counterpoints. EDIT: One example of using natural disambiguation over parenthetical disambiguation is Solo: A Star Wars Story over Solo (2018 film). Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 17:19, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose It is the film's official title, it affords natural disambiguation, and per op's "It doesn't really need to be called "Disney's The Kid"", it doesn't really need to not be called "Disney's The Kid" either. I don't see any good reason presented here for not using the official title. Captainllama (talk) 12:58, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:NATURALDISAMBIGUATION. Rreagan007 (talk) 22:41, 1 April 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose; the current title appears to be reasonable common, both in the provided sources and on ngrams, meaning that natural disambiguation is suitable here. BilledMammal (talk) 02:41, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
- Support. Looking at the poster, "Disney's" is clearly not part of the actual title. In general we do not add words for disambiguation purposes, even per WP:NATURALDISAMBIGUATION. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:20, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
