Book dedication
[edit]So where do I find "dedication" as in the page in a book? 70.233.92.127 (talk) 02:15, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- There is an entry for dedication in Wiktionary. If you think the topic meets Wikipedia's requirements of notability and deserves a topic in the encyclopedia, you can request an article. dissolvetalk 02:34, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Requested move 22 June 2023
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Moved with Dedication → Dedication (ritual). (non-admin closure) {{replyto|SilverLocust}} (talk) 17:26, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
– The current dedication main page is already a series of redirects; each section starts with a link to a full article on the referenced topic. The page summary for Dedication that exists does not address the overall concept, instead addressing the contents of one of the sub-pages. Darker Dreams (talk) 18:29, 22 June 2023 (UTC) — Relisting. - Note: pages with content, such as Dedication, are ineligible to be proposed titles in move requests unless they, too, are dispositioned. "Dedication → ?" was added to this request to meet that requirement. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 22:19, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- Opened AFD request. I'm ambivalent to alternative dispositions if there is consensus that the existing article is viable and should be kept. Darker Dreams (talk) 01:14, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

- Comment: This nomination does not clearly suggest what should happen to the content at Dedication. With the way this discussion is written, it sounds more like an WP:AFD nomination for Dedication. Steel1943 (talk) 22:10, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nomination. There are 41 entries listed upon the Dedication (disambiguation) page, with no indication that the brief entry delineating various religious and secular ceremonies and practices under main title header "Dedication" holds such significance as to overwhelm the combined notability of the remaining 40 entries, such as Dedication (art), Dedication (publishing), etc. Since Dedication is listed under Category:Rituals attending construction, I would support Dedication → Dedication (ritual). —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 23:35, 22 June 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom, and also support Dedication (ritual) as the target for the current page there. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 07:00, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
- Got here from AfD. Support the move to Dedication (ritual) suggested above. I've also suggested withdrawing Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dedication with a possibility of opening a new one after. —siroχo 04:25, 24 June 2023 (UTC)
- Support, suggest Dedication (rite) rather than "(ritual)". ~ Pbritti (talk) 14:50, 24 June 2023 (UTC)
- If consensus skews towards Dedication → Dedication (rite), I would likewise support such a move. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 23:46, 24 June 2023 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: More discussion could be useful with regards to "(ritual)" vs. "(rite)" as the title. EggRoll97 (talk) 23:48, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- I think Dedication (ritual) makes more sense than (rite), but without more information I think that's purely personal preference. Darker Dreams (talk) 10:33, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- Support now that the AfD has closed, with no preference on rite vs ritual. Merriam-Webster includes "rite" and "ceremony" in its definitions, Collins uses "ceremony", Macmillan uses "ceremony". Suriname0 (talk) 18:52, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
