Not done: the ESPN piece cited in the article quotes him as saying "a superstar." I agree that the video sounds like he says "the superstar," but there's clearly enough room for interpretation that even published sources can differ on it. Tim Pierce (talk) 22:51, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Photo Error Request for a Change

{{editsemiprotected}}

There's a photo on this page under Beckham's loan to Milan. It's of him clearly wearing a Real Madrid jersey (with "bwin" across the front), but the caption read's that it's a photo of him playing for Milan. Please change that.

What are you talking about? The only picture under the Milan subheading is of Beckham in a Milan shirt. – PeeJay 07:38, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

World Cup Squad

I have edited the International career to include the fact that Beckham may not have been selected for the 2010 World Cup squad regardless of whether he was fit or not. It is not a fact that Beckham was unable to play for England because he was injured, it is highly possible that he wouldn't have been able to play for England becasue Fabio Capello would not have selected him fotr South Africa. I have included info on other footballers who could have been selected.

Erm, it is a fact that Beckham was unable to play because he was injured. You are right, though, that he may not have been selected even if he was fit. Nevertheless, the whole point in Beckham being loaned to Milan for the last two seasons was so that he could prove himself eligible for selection for the World Cup. There's been no evidence to suggest that Capello wouldn't have selected him. – PeeJay 13:07, 12 August 2010 (UTC)

Place in satire?

DB is frequently portrayed by English Satirists as kind hearted but a little vacuous. You would never know that from his Wikipedia entry. Seems to be a chunk of cultural context missing. 125.134.236.241 (talk) 16:52, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Better picture?

Surely, out of the plethora of photos of David Beckham, we can find a better one than that which is the main one at present? Feudonym (talk) 03:29, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

As far as I'm concerned, the criteria for profile pics of a living person biography article should be within the same year, and should be in profile position, ie, showing the face. The pictures of Becks that are better were taken in 1998, 2000 etc, which does not depict the 'current him'. This is the best 'recent photo' (2007) that shows his face well. But feel free to find a replacement. Instead of accusing us of not doing anything, do it yourself. bigforrap (talk) 09:49, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Marriage?

No offense, but the part detailing David's wedding is a little alarming. "...and her name changed to Victoria Beckham." Clearly, she doesn't use Adams anymore, but why is that so important to have to include to his article and not the other 500,000 people who most likely have already changed theirs (as is the Western custom) or live with or wed females who did? Also, the thing about their first-born son being four months old when they were married, okay, no. It clearly lists the children's birthdates, so we can figure they probably popped before they were married (March and July 1999). Estheroliver (talk) 18:31, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Cost of Beverly Hills home

From the §Los Angeles Galaxy:

"In April 2007, he and wife Victoria bought an $7.5 million house in New York City"

From the § Personal Life:

"In April 2007, the family purchased their new Italian villa in Beverly Hills, to coincide with Beckham's transfer to the Los Angeles Galaxy in July. The mansion, priced at $22 million, is near the homes of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and talk-show host Jay Leno, in an exclusive gated community in the hills overlooking the city." Dick Kimball (talk) 18:23, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Western Conference 2010

Just thought I'd mention that the bit listing the Western Conference in 2010 as one of his honours is wrong. The Western and Eastern Conference titles are awarded based upon their play off series not regular season record. The regular season record is only used to determine play off qualifiers and Supporter's Shield winners. The Galaxy's 2009 Western Conference title is based upon them winning the Western play offs and not finishing top of the Western Conference (which they did). So the 2010 Western Conference title is still up for grabs in the next few weeks. 82.11.8.104 (talk) 15:46, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Beckham was the fourth englishman to play for Real Madrid, the missing 3rd englishman was Michael Owen - not mentioned in the text. 72.207.62.72 (talk) 19:43, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

Beckham played centre-midfield in United's FA Cup final win over Newcastle United and for the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final against Bayern Munich, since United's first string centre-midfielders Paul Scholes and Roy Keane were suspended for the match.

That is incorrect, Beckham didn't not play central midfield in this game.

Roy Keane was not suspended and played the first 10 minutes before being injured and replaces by Teddy Sheringham.

Paul Scholes, like Keane, was no suspended and infact scored the second goal of the game.

Awful.

Don't know how to change it. Some else do it.

I'll remove the bit about the FA Cup final because it looks like it was ham-fistedly shoved in by a rank amateur. However, Beckham did play centre-mid after Keane was subbed; Sheringham came on for Keane, Beckham moved to centre-mid and Solskjaer moved to the right wing. So actually, Beckham did play centre-mid for the majority of the 1999 FA Cup Final. – PeeJay 02:31, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Photos

There are way too many photos here. It makes it more like a Tiger Beat article than an encyclopedia piece. Every sections seems to have a different image of Beckham on the field. I believe that wikipedia guidelines caution against needless photos. PurpleChez (talk) 03:57, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

I counted 11 photos. All but one are generic photos of Beckham playing. Two are fairly wide angle shots, in which he is little more than a big dot. In contrast the article on Joe Namath has a single picture in the info box. PurpleChez (talk) 04:00, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
What's wrong with that? If they're good pictures, why not add them? It's not like they've been consolidated into a gallery at the bottom of the page; they've been spread around fairly well, IMO. The bad ones could be deleted, but most of them look pretty good. – PeeJay 21:10, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Most look fine. It's just that after a few good photos an additional five or ten don't add anything. Most are just sort of generic. I counted eleven photos of Mrs. Windsor in the entire article on Queen Elizabeth II, but there was at least a lot of variety. And, as I said, I think that there is a Wikipedia policy against unnecessary or excessive use of photos...but I'm not sure.... PurpleChez (talk) 15:38, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

OCD

As someone who has suffered from full-blown OCD I find it annoying that Beckham says he has it merely to capitalise, by saying he has the affliction. As if it makes him in some way "unique" - interesting in any way at all. Having to put your clothes/magazines straight is NOT OCD. OCD is a majorly debilitating condition which in many cases leads to the sufferer performing un-natural actions which make that person look mad and interferes with performance in every stage of life.

As with any medical condition, OCD can manifest in varying degrees of severity. Perhaps Beckham only suffers from a mild form of OCD? How do you know he hasn't been diagnosed by a professional psychologist? I'm sure it's a very difficult condition to live with, but who are you to say that Beckham doesn't have it? – PeeJay 23:12, 14 April 2012 (UTC)

In subsection : "SECOND LOAN SPELL AT MILAN".

On 16 February 2010, Beckham played against Manchester United for the first time since he left the club in 2003. He played 76 minutes of the match at the San Siro – which ended 3–2 to Manchester United – before being substituted for Clarence Seedorf.[111] Beckham returned to Old Trafford for the second leg of the tie on 10 March 2010; he did not start the match, but was brought on for Ignazio Abate in the 64th minute to an positive and emotional reception from the Manchester United fans, which was reciprocated when Beckham covered his face upon coming on to cover his sentimental tears. The score was 3–0 for United at that point and the tie was all but decided. The match was the first time Beckham had played against Manchester United at Old Trafford and saw him create several scoring opportunities via crosses and corner kicks, but Manchester United dominated Milan and beat them 4–0, winning the tie 7–2

Number of League goals for Man-U erroneous

As per the biobox, David Beckham has scored 85 league goals in 265 appearances for Manchester United, whereas, in truth, he has only scored 62 league goals in 265 league appearances for Manchester United(refer statistics lower down in the page). 85 is the total number of goals he scored across all competitions, which came in 394 appearances. Removal of The Econmist ref and associated sentence

I've gone ahead and removed the following sentence and the reference supporting it:

The cost of his signing was spread evenly among the then 14 MLS teams rather than picked up just by LA Galaxy because the goal was to boost the standing in America of professional soccer as a whole, against the country’s indigenous sports.[1]

The reason for this removal is because the article is categorically wrong. Here is a link to the article in question:[2]. The biggest error is that it includes the claim that Beckham was paid $250 million for 5 years. This was discredited within months of the 2007 press conference announcing Beckham's signing when the MLS Players' Union published the salaries for the league's player and listed Beckham's salary at $6.5 million. The number was further discredited in Grant Wahl's book, The Beckham Experiment, where it was revealed $170 million of the $250 million was what Beckham's team expected to be increases in endorsement deals due to Beckham's move to the US. Additionally, the sharing of Beckham's salary is, again, refuted by Wahl's book and is a basic misunderstanding of the designated player rule, where the league paid the first $400,000 of Beckham's salary and AEG paid the remaining $6.1 million. --Bobblehead (rants) 03:28, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Lead

The lead now looks laughable for not even mentioning Beckham's status in the world of fashion and advertising. He is arguably more famous for his advertising power and fashion than he is for playing football, certainly in the states. The "global brand" thing which was previously in the lead should be restored. I know he is essentially a footballer but c'mon its a massive part of his identity.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:37, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

Assists

In the lead it states that he is one of the top assist providers in the Premier League with 152 assists. Although Beckham definitely provided many assists for Manchester United, I honestly question the accuracy of the source cited. It is possible that the term "assists" in this case is used to describe "goalscoring opportunities created" as well as penalties or other set pieces that were won by Beckham, from which another player scored (also unlikely as he was the number one choice.) The issues are, however, that: 1. The term "assist" in this particular context is not defined; 2. The statistics referenced for other players also do not match other official sources (e.g. Rooney is listed as having provided 126 assist, when in reality he has assisted around 83 goals in the premier league, I believe - another source states that Beckham has provided 44 assists in the Premier League.) therefore I think this information should be removed from the article as it seems inaccurate and the source appears to be unreliable. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Messirulez (talkcontribs) 08:44, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
