User 82.249.110.101 could you please cite your sources regarding Steven Carroll? Google produces no information on him. Could you please also list the "revolutionary" features the Mr. Carroll designed? If you can't help with this I'll have to revert the article to it's original pathetic state. maxcap 18:57, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- plenty of help out here available for those that want to collaborate. I have been using all kinds of mixing desks even building my own for decades. images? sure. oh and i dont see how the ability to direct a channel into headphones counts as a point of difference, nearly all desks have sends that can be directed independently of the main signal. Cross fading can be done better using two sliders than one, in my opinion, with one hand, i did it for years also. phono equalisation on inputs might be more imporatnt, but again any desk could have auxilliary boxes to do that. the RIAA curves for records are very important, and perhaps remote turntable start /slip disc release, at the fader could be mentioned, I used both techniques on my manufactured consoles, for years also. How about integrated lighting controllers, we did that 35 years ago!KIwiMusician 03:47, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
RCA (phono) input
[edit]Our article on RCA connector claims that the RCA (phono) inputs on mixer decks are designed for the old millivolt unamplified output direct from the play deck. This input has circuitry to boost the lower frequencies that are attenuated on vinyl recordings. Do many DJs still use vinyl and these special phonograph inputs, or are the mixer deck inputs now usually one-volt line inputs for CD or digital inputs? I don't know any DJs well enough to ask! - A few examples:
- The Rane MP44 has four stereo phono inputs for RIAA-equalized vinyl records, and four stereo RCA inputs for CD players and the like.
- The Rane TTM56S has four stereo phono inputs that are switchable between RIAA-equalized vinyl records and consumer line level for CD players. A light blue dipswitch allows the change in circuitry.
- The Allen & Heath XONE 32 has three stereo pairs of RCA inputs for phonograph, and three for CD players, etc. White push buttons select between the two.
- Hope that helps! Binksternet (talk) 07:29, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, thanks! I was worried that one might get disastrous effects with a factor of hundreds in the input level and very different equalization, but obviously DJs know what they are doing, and the decks are clearly labelled. Dbfirs 18:03, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
