Cyclone Eric/Nigel impacted Vanuatu and Fiji within 48-72 hours of each other and are thus basically the same disaster even though they are two separate tropical cyclones. As a result, I would like to combine them into one overall article entitled Cyclones Eric and Nigel. This would be consistent with how the disaster is treated in several reliable sources such as In Their Time of Need - Australia’s overseas emergency relief operations, 1918–2006 (Available via Cambridge University Press and the Wikipedia Libary), Reliefweb & US AID. It would also mean that Jason Rees (talk) 00:41, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- I'd be more interested in an article formatted and titled like November 1964 Vietnam floods. Nova Crystallis (Talk) 07:29, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Nova Crystallis: While the format is more or less the same as I was thinking, I think the title would be Cyclones Eric and Nigel. This is because I am not sure that I have seen any reports of any flooding in Vanuatu from either cyclone and the fact that two island nations are involved, maybe three if we include Australia.Jason Rees (talk) 13:57, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- I support JR’s proposed title. It’s a bit unusual for the project, but given their close proximity, I agree it works better to discuss them as a single entity. Hurricanehink mobile (talk) 14:21, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
- Support per precedent of Tropical storms Amanda and Cristobal. NoahTalk 22:33, 29 September 2021 (UTC)
Support in principle. However, I would prefer a name similar to Effects of cyclones Eric and Nigel as unlike Amanda and Cristobal, Eric and Nigel were two distinct systems. Destroyer (Alternate account) 23:19, 2 October 2021 (UTC)- I think it is better to go for Cyclones Eric and Nigel as we would be talking about the overall meteorological event rather than just the effects. I would also note that we should use the most precise title per WP:Precision.Jason Rees (talk) 21:14, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- Changing to neutral. I'm afraid that this will lead to a slew of new merges, such as merging ALMa- Arthur and Ingrid-Manuel. Destroyer (Alternate account) 01:19, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Destroyeraa: Yes by merging these two systems there will probably be more systems merged, but this is where I think Wikipedia has got some of its coverage of the weather wrong. Sometimes it is better that we focus on the overall event rather than doing individual articles for each notable weather system.Jason Rees (talk) 21:26, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

- Lean Support – While I prefer that the use of combined article be reserved for storms that were actually regenerations of the same system, if another group of storms had a bunch of overlapping impacts and are mentioned together by most reliable sources, then I suppose that a combined article may suit the said storms better than separate articles. if this article is merged, though, the MH section will need two subesections, which honestly wouldn't be a challenge at all. LightandDark2000 🌀 (talk) 23:44, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
- I am not so sure that it would need two subsections for the MH, as we could quite easily work it into one section bearing in mind that the steering flow would be more or less the same.Jason Rees (talk) 21:14, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- Are the impacts from the two systems distinguishable or no? This isn’t the first time we’ve had two tropical cyclones hit the same place in a short period of time, and we’ve had no problem keeping the articles separate but I realize this situation may be different. YE Pacific Hurricane 06:53, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Yellow Evan: I would argue that the impacts are not really distinguishable as we are literally talking about 48 hours and they are mentioned in multiple sources as just one event.Jason Rees (talk) 21:14, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
