General commentary
[edit]bluffs run casino is now horseshoe casino.
If Counciltucky is gonna redirct to this page, some reference should be made to the relationship between CB and Omaha. 70.195.230.60 02:57, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Article improvement suggestions
[edit]The "faith and worship" section is a link farm, and needs to be wikified or deleted. Missing or incorrect parameters in the city infobox should be added or corrected. The pictures should be placed in correct order, or put into a gallery section (see Omaha for an example). The demographics and geography sections are in a strange location - but shouldn't have been left in such a prominent place in the article as it developed, either. They should be dealt with. The entire article needs citations to avoid POV and demonstrate verifiability. – Freechild (¡!¡!¡!¡) 04:32, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Agree with you, more or less. I did most of it in my spare time but don't have the time to dig back through every article that I've written for the Historical Society. That's why I leave the Society as the first link. I'm cited in a couple other wikipedia articles that I didn't write so would that be suitable? Missing Place Names and Dates
[edit]What was name at time of settlement? On what date was name changed to Kanesville? On what date was Kanesville incorporated as Council Bluffs? 76.102.31.185 (talk) 20:25, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
The introductory section has too many picture attachments.
[edit]This leaves a great deal of white space. Perhaps just one of the pictures would suffice? My personal pick would be for the Dodge house. In addition, the inclusion of the business names in the fast food strip is a little silly. Most towns the size of Council Bluffs have similar commercial strips and the individual businesses located in such a strip are not noteworthy. In general, I am happy to see the progress on this article about my hometown. I remember the early days of this article, and so much has already been accomplished. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wsgy01 (talk • contribs) 04:39, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Most recent additions
[edit]The summary of Kanesville's importance to the overland trails in the 19th century belongs more under the history section as opposed to the introductory, general overview of the city or needs to be compared with the evolution of the Lincoln Highway and the present-day equivalents of Interstates 80 and 29. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Iowaryan (talk • contribs) 07:18, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Kanesville name change
[edit]An emigrant went through Kanesville on his route to Oregon on April 21 1853. He kept a daily diary, which is preserved in the Rare Book Room of the University of Oregon Library. This diary was transcribed inot a boook and printed in 1993.[1] Fact checking the dairy entries, which give daily distances, and name towns, they are always correct. Does someone have a counter reference to 1852? I changed that to 1853 based on this diary. Nick Beeson (talk) 03:07, 11 August 2017 (UTC)
- [1] suggests it was renamed in 1853. Power~enwiki (talk) 03:32, 11 August 2017 (UTC)
Council Bluffs was incorporated as Council Bluffs City on January 19th, 1853. So at the very least the city was officially Council Bluffs on January 19th, 1853. Adoption of the name among people in the town wasn't likely immediate. It was likely agreed upon sometime in 1852 to be called Council Bluffs, and then incorporated in January 1853 under the name Council Bluffs. I think calling the name change as 1853 would be most correct, corresponding with the date of incorporation. Paltron (talk) 13:39, 11 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Paltron:Thanks for this. As I made the change I was wondering if it was something like this. The Diary of Welborn Beeson is full of obsolete names. On the other hand, I have been unable to find a mistake in any of his statements of geographical fact. Every day, for over 200 entries, he states how many miles they traveled, and these distances add up, i.e. his total distance from Des Moines to Council Bluffs is dead on. If you have a reference, I will take the time to insert a subsection, "Name change" to discuss that the change took time to catch on. Nick Beeson (talk) 12:30, 12 August 2017 (UTC)
