- Hey @Bremps:, thanks for giving this a look! I think either of those Alt hooks is good, I like the April Fools-style hooks you've gone for - that could be quite fun (and give a bit more attention to everyone's least favourite topic: journalist biographies)! Lemme know if there's anything else to do. Pretzelles (talk) 16:06, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, sorry if I was unclear. I was only suggesting hooks, not doing a review. Bremps... 17:32, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- Article is new enough, double the character requirement, and has no other disqualifying factors. The move will need to be resolved one way or another but I don't see it as a big deal. Sources appear appropriately reliable. Hooks are cited in-text - my strong preference is ALT2, which is hilarious. QPQ not required as Pretzelles only has 2 DYK credits at this time. ♠PMC♠ (talk) 18:23, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
Nomination to be held until move discussion concludes. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 19:59, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Discussion concluded. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 00:00, 1 February 2024 (UTC)- Pretzelles, I'm very tempted to allocate this to the April Fool's set. What do you think? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 00:03, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- @AirshipJungleman29: That could be good! It should hopefully bring a bit more attention to the article, I know from the past that journalists don't get many clicks... Pretzelles (talk) 00:06, 1 February 2024 (UTC)
- Great idea to put this here, AirshipJungleman29. ALT2 is hilarious. —pythoncoder (talk | contribs) 00:55, 2 February 2024 (UTC)

Requested move 6 January 2024
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: no consensus. There is no consensus to support the proposed move. The nominator and supporters have not provided sufficient rationale to justify the removal of the year disambiguation, while the opposers have raised valid concerns about the ambiguity and variability of capitalisation. The alternative suggestion of using the middle name has also been challenged by a policy-based argument. Therefore, this article should remain at Colin MacKay (journalist, born 1944) till there's a compromise. (closed by non-admin page mover) Vanderwaalforces (talk) 14:33, 31 January 2024 (UTC)

- Support: I was hesitant initially because it didn't seem clever to me to have two pages titled Colin MacKay (journalist) and Colin Mackay (journalist). However, it's set out at WP:SMALLDETAILS. Stevie fae Scotland (talk) 13:14, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Support: Per nom. Svartner (talk) 17:07, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose for unambiguity purposes. As with most constructions like this, MacKay and Mackay are seen pretty much interchangeably, even in official sources. A look at the sources will show this (e.g. the header of Colin MacKay's obituary). -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:10, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per Necrothesp. By the standard proposed in the nomination, Colin MacKay (journalist, born 1944) may not need any parenthetical qualifier since his entry is primary over the one-sentence stub for Australian rules footballer Colin MacKay. A nomination regarding the footballer's putative primacy has been posted at Talk:Colin MacKay#Requested move 14 January 2024. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 20:06, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. Disambiguate both, similarly by year born. Mackay vs MacKay is TOOSMALL a SMALLDETAIL. Capitalisation of the letter after Mac is a highly variable stylism. -SmokeyJoe (talk) 00:58, 18 January 2024 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: Currently no consensus; editors disagree over whether SMALLDETAILS applies. Relisting for a second time to allow more discussion of this point. BilledMammal (talk) 18:03, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. I agree with Necrothesp and SmokeyJoe that this is too small a small detail. By way of comment, I would personally be open to a move to Colin Hinshelwood MacKay on the grounds that the 1944-born journalist's full name would be a
more complete name
thatis unambiguous, commonly used in English (even without being the most common term), and equally clear
, per WP:NCDAB. P-Makoto (she/her) (talk) 08:13, 26 January 2024 (UTC)- See WP:MIDDLENAME however. We don't add middle names that are not commonly used simply for disambiguation purposes. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:40, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
