Placing it here until can work out where to place it in article. KJP1 (talk) 11:45, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

There's also this image of the plaque. There are a few of the church at Commons, so maybe a gallery could be employed? Martinevans123 (talk) 13:44, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I wondered about a Gallery. Do feel free to have a go, or I'll play around later. The one interior shot does indeed look rather "austere"! KJP1 (talk) 13:55, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Goodness me, you should have seen it before the rather sumptuous refurbishment... Martinevans123 (talk) 14:21, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've always been intrigued by the large barn door at the back of church, above the door to the vestry/bell rope in the tower. Why is it even there? Surely not to simply help install what must be a very modest bell. As a bit of an expert on churches, I expect you may well have seen this or similar features before. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:00, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Odd. A relic of the original barn? Court Farm Barn, Llanthony Priory, a service building to a monastic foundation, also has two storeys, which St Mary's may once have done. Looking at it, one can see how the basic structure could once have been a barn. An exit above a threshing floor? When I can finally get round to unpacking, I'll see what Pevsner says. I'd be very interested to hear if he ever visited or had an opinion. It's quite curious. I believe the church also had a "ting tang" bell, but I can't quite get to grips with this source. That buttress on the south side looks quite ancient and quite excessive. Why was it ever needed, I wonder. Martinevans123 (talk) 22:12, 12 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
p.s. that image of the lime tree avenue in sunshine is really lovely. It's a simple thing that really makes the path to the church something special.
Yes, it is rather lovely and I thought warranted inclusion. I’m absolutely sure John Newman will have gone. Even though it’s “only” Grade II, he rarely, if ever, missed out a church. I look forward to being reunited with my Pevsner. KJP1 (talk) 15:31, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I really don’t understand why the iPad puts the reply ABOVE the comment you’re replying too!!!!!!!! KJP1 (talk) 15:32, 15 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
