Name Spelling
[edit]How should her name be spelled? There are many ways to translate it from Greek: Xrispa, Xryspa, Hrispa, Hryspa, Chrispa, Chryspa. Her official site spells it "Xrispa", but there is no real english section on there. Opinion? Greekboy (talk) 21:58, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- I chose Hryspa because that's the way i prefer to spell it. Most of the other names i created redirects from so we would need to get an administrator to move the page for is, if we were going to. According to the wikipedia policy on greek to english, it should be Chryspa, but i hate that translation because im tempted to say the "ch" like you pronounce it in the word "cheese". Also it would be a "y" because that would be a long vowel as opposed to an "i" which would be a short one like in crisp. I am completely opposed to it being spelled with an "x" because in english, an "x" makes a ks sound, not the same as it is in greek. Grk1011 (talk) 22:32, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe we should wait until something in English is published from ERT, Minos EMI, or her official website to see? Greekboy (talk) 22:40, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- yea, except if i dont like it, we can ignore it, haha. It would have to be a non-greek related publishing because others often make the "x" mistake. As you look around, you find a mixture of spellings, there doesnt seem to be one "correct" spelling as of now. Grk1011 (talk) 22:43, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Found this from Minos EMI on their download site[1]. It lists her as "Hrispa". Regardless, I think we should wait for a name change until we get what ERT (and her) is going to use to spell her name for Eurovision. Greekboy (talk) 23:21, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yea, we should wait, i usually verify my translations with [2]. And Minos EMI has officially changed its name to EMI Music Greece, so should everything be changed from Minos EMI to the new?Grk1011 (talk) 23:26, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm..Well I guess change the label name to EMI Music Greece in article about present things, but leave it as Minos EMI in past articles. (Like articles on Cd's released under the Minos name) Greekboy (talk) 23:35, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
- Personally I think that "Hryspa" seems like the Greek name transliterated and this is the point. I would prefer Hryspa (like it was) or Chryspa. By the way I think that most of people will read "Chrispa" like "Christ". "Hryspa" was the best solution for me and "Chrispa" maybe the worst. - Sthenel (talk) 13:22, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- As the user who first created the page, I liked "Hryspa" better, but Eurovision and English language sources seem to have chosen "Chrispa". People will def read it like "Christ" or even like "crispy", but i believe the wikipedia policy is to not have original research, meaning if we chose "Hryspa" we would be deciding her name on our own. Grk1011 (talk) 17:32, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- But if we put into acount her real name, Chrisanthi, which is sort of like Christina, it would translate into English with the CH has Chrispa. It's not just an greek h translation here, but a specific name that exists in English. So it would be Chrispa. Greekboy (talk) 19:09, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

At least it should be "Chryspa" - Sthenel (talk) 20:05, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
- Nah, then someone might pronounce it like "Chrysler". Grk1011 (talk) 21:49, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
At the google: Chrispa - 12,400 results, Chryspa - 129,000 results. - Sthenel (talk) 10:38, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Well for the record there are 3,070 hits for Chryspa. And the most hits i found were for both Xryspa and Xrispa. Do you suggest we change the name to them? I don't, greenglish makes the google test not work. You can only consider english language sources for the correct english translation, and according to eurovision, that translation is currently Chrispa.Grk1011 (talk) 16:18, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
