4. Twinnings and rivalries 4.1 RIVALRIES

4.2 Twinning

Verona Verona Lazio Lazio Rangers Rangers Vitesse Vitesse

Officially in England between the fans made of Chelsea and those of the other teams does not report friendly relations. The only twins are four, and have been stipulated with the Italians of Lazio and Hellas Verona, for reasons of affinity of political views, the most important friendship is that with the former Gialloblu Brigades of Verona dating back to the second half of the seventies, when some members of the Brigades were allowed to expose their banner in the dreaded "Hut" of the English fans. [86] with the Dutch of the Vitesse, with the Northern Irishmen of Linfield and with the Scots of the Rangers. These last two fans, joined by Londoners to the similar color that characterizes all three jerseys, are joined by the Blues Brothers group. "In 1976 the banner Brigate hangs in a" side "of the dreaded" SHED ", the Chelsea stadium, triggering an agreement with the ultras scaligeri (in the south corner appears for the first time a flag with the" Union Jack "flag never appeared in an Italian stadium until then!). The first scarves in yellow-blue stripes appear and the first banners in English (The Deadly Sinner Club and Hellas Army) " Taken from the book "the warriors of Verona".

This friendship was reconfirmed in 1997 when Chelsea had to play a match of the Cup Winners' Cup against Vicenza (Verona arcirival): a large number of supporters of Hellas Verona was present at the Stadio Romeo Menti in Vicenza together with Chelsea fans. 2001:B07:6456:38E3:17B:D749:F36C:EC41 (talk) 22:13, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Chelsea FC: Records Update

Hi Wiki users, does it need to be stated that Chelsea FC are currently on a winning streak that will see them equal or surpass the longest English Premier League winning streak? They only need 3 straight wins (against Bournemouth, Stoke City and Tottenham Hotspurs) to surpass the record set by Arsenal for the "most consecutive number of Premier League wins" which is 13. Chelsea FC are on 11 currently. TimmieEx (talk) 18:10, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

Maybe it is better, to change the passage into: ...'and the first british football club to achieve this' (being one of only 5 clubs that have won the three major european football-competitions). Currently Reads “Chelsea have long-standing rivalries with North London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.[98][99] A strong rivalry with Leeds United dates back to several heated and controversial matches in the 1960s and 1970s, particularly the 1970 FA Cup Final.[100] More recently a rivalry with Liverpool has grown following repeated clashes in cup competitions.[101][102] Chelsea's fellow West London sides Brentford, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers are generally not considered major rivals, as matches have only taken place intermittently due to the clubs often being in separate divisions.” Change to “Chelsea have long-standing rivalries with North London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.[98][99] The rivalry with Tottenham started after the 1967 FA cup final defeat to them. A strong rivalry with Leeds United dates back to several heated and controversial matches in the 1960s and 1970s, particularly the 1970 FA Cup Final.[100] More recently a rivalry with Liverpool has grown following repeated clashes in cup competitions.[101][102] Chelsea's fellow West London sides Brentford, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers are generally not considered major rivals. In the era before League football was on TV, when Chelsea played away supporters would go and watch one of the other local teams playing at home. For many years the police have insisted that Fulham and QPR play at home when Chelsea and Brentford are away. With Chelsea and Fulham never playing at home on the same weekend, some of the older fans still have season tickets for both clubs. Since the introduction of cheap travel and League football being shown on TV, matches have only taken place intermittently due to the clubs often being in separate divisions.[103]”

I’ve had a season ticket since 1985 and watch games with people who have been attending since the 40’s. I don’t think my dad’s programme collection from the 50’s & 60’s or a couple of blokes who still have season tickets to both clubs are checkable facts. The police fact should be checkable, but I have no idea where to look to find a reference. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Colin Potter 20 (talkcontribs) 13:24, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Separation of Abramovich and Chelsea Success in the Introduction

Chelsea's success in the last couple of decades began with, and has been wholly dependent on, Abramovich taking over the club and heavily investing in it. Yet the introductory section is deliberately worded to make it seem like Chelsea's recent success and the Abramovich takeover are completely unrelated events, which is highly deceptive and inaccurate. The sentence about Abramovich taking over the club should be moved up to the paragraph on Chelsea's success to accurately reflect his critical role in it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.31.194.57 (talk) 19:38, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Chelsea are among England's most successful clubs, having won over thirty competitive honours, including six league titles and seven European trophies. Their home ground is Stamford Bridge.

I'm proposing the following section be added. There is no mention of this major part of Chelsea history in the article. Any edits for additional citations, WP:NPOV or general cleanup would be appreciated. Thanks! Bkhd12 (talk) 09:15, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

Major part of Chelsea history? It seems redundant to me since the issue is the actions of two individuals who once worked for the club. Probably also fails WP:UNDUE and WP:Criticism.

Moreover, there have also been investigations into former employees of Celtic, Man City, Bolton, Newcastle, Leeds, Man Utd, Stoke City, Aston Villa and Arsenal amongst many others and none of those articles mention it.

This would be a first improvement for the mobile users without hurting the desktop users. Other suggestions? Ruedi33a (talk) 09:56, 28 August 2021 (UTC)

Those templates are not supposed to be displayed on mobile devices - that was a deliberate decision by the developers because they don't work properly and they create a huge amount of HTML bloat. The collapse template isn't a good solution either because it doesn't work on mobile devices properly - the collapsing functionality is disabled. I think it would be better to wait for the developers to come up with a proper way of rendering navboxes on mobile rather than coming up with hacky work-arounds 192.76.8.74 (talk) 04:34, 30 August 2021 (UTC)

There's a labelling error in this graph: the year 1963 on the X-axis is actually labelled 1953. Not that important since it's obvious in context that it's an error, but it should be fixed. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 15:49, 6 November 2021 (UTC)

different informations

- in the colours section it says that „Chelsea have always worn blue shirts, although they originally used the paler eton blue, which was taken from the racing colours of then club president, Earl Cadogan, and was worn with white shorts and dark blue or black socks.” in history of chelsea page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Chelsea_F.C.) it says that „Blue shirts were adopted by Mears, after the racing colors of Lord Chelsea, along with white shorts and dark blue socks.” earl cadogan is a title and not a person. who was the president of the club in 1905? George Henry Cadogan, 5th Earl Cadogan (1840–1915) or Gerald Oakley Cadogan, 6th Earl Cadogan (1869–1933) or Henry Cadogan, Viscount Chelsea?

- in the crest section it says that „with the "lion rampant regardant" taken from the arms of then club president Viscount Chelsea.” Charles Cadogan, 8th Earl Cadogan was then 16 years old. he could be president at that age? who was the president of the club in 1953 when the club crest was changed? William Gerald Charles Cadogan, 7th Earl Cadogan (1914–1997) or Charles Gerald John Cadogan, 8th Earl Cadogan (b. 1937)?

Chelsea is now facing direct consequences from sanctions on Abramovich, per https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/12562138/chelsea-owner-roman-abramovich-sanctioned-by-uk-government.

This will have an on-field impact, as well as financial impact, as the team cannot sign players, sell new tickets, or spend more than 20,000 GBP on travel. Suggest adding to the end of the Abramovich era, as it certainly seems to fit. JackHahne (talk) 11:34, 10 March 2022 (UTC)

Append the bolded text to the end of the paragraph. Sky Sports should serve as a suitable news source for football related news.
"Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Abramovich stated on 26 February 2022 that he would hand over the stewardship of Chelsea to the trustees of the charitable foundation. The trustees did not immediately agree, due to concerns over whether this was allowed under Charity Commission rules and concerns about their possible legal liability. In March, Abramovich said he intended to sell the club and that any net proceeds would be donated to the people of Ukraine; he said the £1.5 billion he loaned to the club would be forgiven. From 10 March 2022, Abramovich was directly sanctioned by the government of the United Kingdom, which resulted in restrictions being placed on Chelsea directly, though they were still allowed to operate under "special license". Among other sanctions, Chelsea was forbidden from signing new players and selling new tickets (though existing ticket holders could still attend matches). The statement in line three " Internationally, Chelsea are the only English team to have won the three active major UEFA trophies." is factually incorect and should be removed. It is ambiguous which three trophies, and in any case, whichever combination of the three active trophies chosen, namely the Uefa Champions League/European Champions cup, Uefa Europa League/Uefa cup, Uefa Super Cup, or the Uefa Europa Conference league, is either false or is also the case with other English clubs Liverpool FC and Manchester United. If it relates to holding the title of the now-defunct European Cup Winners cup along with the two other major European trophies of the Uefa Champions League/European Champions cup, Uefa Europa League/Uefa cup, at some point of their history then Manchester United also completed this feat. The first paragraph incorrectly states that Chelsea are the only English club to have won the three major active UEFA competitions. The active UEFA competitions are Champions League, Europa League, Conference League, and Super Cup. If we omit the Super Cup as "not major" then Chelsea have not won conference league. If we include Super Cup and omit Conference League as Major, then Man United and Liverpool have won all three, as well. If this line is meant to indicate the three historically biggest UEFA competitions, the Champions League, Europa League, and Cup Winners Cup, then again it is incorrect as Manchester United have also won all three. An accurate statement would be that Chelsea were the first English club to win the original three major UEFA competitions. First to win all of the Champions League, Europa League, and Cup Winners Cup. 72.195.205.65 (talk) 17:53, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

Merging and creation of sections

There has been some large scale changes to multiple sections being merged by a new user @Abra_mo_vich2012. While I have no qualms with edits to some sections unfortunately I do not agree with any of these section changes and merges. This page like every Premier League team follows a set Manual of Style set out by Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Clubs. Any changes to these manuals of styles would need broad consensus both here and at the Wikiproject page. Therefore I do not agree with the changes being suggested by this user as they are not in compliance. Words in the Wind(talk) 05:25, 29 May 2022 (UTC)

My apologies. I would like to remove the line in the first paragraph that mentions Chelsea's developing rivalry with Liverpool in the section titled "Rivalries" and instead create a new paragraph underneath the first one explaining that the rivalry with Liverpool developed due to repeated clases in cup competitions, then go into detail regarding the various meetings the two teams have had, such as the 2005 Champions League Semi-final, the 2005 League Cup Final and the meeting at Anfield in the 2013-14 Premier League and explain the outcomes of each. See The controversial moments that have fuelled Liverpool's rivalry with Chelsea by Liverpool Echo ("While Liverpool have historically shared heated rivalries with Manchester United and Everton, the dislike towards Chelsea has been a relatively modern development.") and How Liverpool v Chelsea became one of the fiercest rivalries of the 2000s by planetfootball ("There is no geographical or historical reason why Liverpool and Chelsea should have any sort of dislike of each other, but for a while in the 2000s their rivalry was one of the most entertaining in English football.") Suggested wording with citations:
Over the last two decades, Chelsea has developed a strong rivalry with Liverpool F.C. following repeated clashes in cup competitions. The first notable match between the two was the 2005 League Cup Final, which Chelsea won 3-2. This match was made famous by Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho being sent off for making a 'shush' gesture to the Liverpool fans after Chelsea equalised. Liverpool and Chelsea then went on to meet in the semi-finals of the 2005 and 2007 Champions Leagues, with Liverpool winning on both occassions. The 2005 meeting was notable in that Liverpool winger Luis Garcia scored a controverial goal with his hand in the 4th minute, which helped the Reds win. Another famous meeting between the two occured at Anfield during the 2013-14 Premier League Season, in which Liverpool were battling both Manchester City and Chelsea for the Premier League title. This match was marked by Gerrard's infamous slip while receiving a pass which allowed Chelsea striker Demba Ba to score, resulting in Chelsea winning the game 2–0 and costing Liverpool the title. Other factors that fuelled the rivalry include Fernando Torres's move from Liverpool to Chelsea in 2011 and Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard almost transferring from the Reds to the Blues in 2005 before eventually declining.[3][4]
I also want to add another paragraph underneath the aformentioned paragraph explaining Chelsea's recently developed rivalry with Manchester United, which occured due to competitions for titles such as the 2009-10 Premier League and the 2008 Champions League Final. See Chelsea vs Manchester United Rivalry & History by UKBettingSites ("... a big part of what has created a rivalry between Manchester United and Chelsea, given that the two teams have been competing for the top honours in the latter stage of the Premier League era.") Suggested wording with citations:
Another notable rivalry Chelsea has developed in recent times is with Manchester United, this again being due to repeated heated meetings between the two. The two teams fought for the Premier League title in the 2005-06 and 2009-10 seasons, with Chelsea winning the title on both occasions (the latter of which was won by just a single point). Other high-profile meetings between the two include the 2008 Champions League final, which United won on penalties, the 1994 FA Cup Final which United won 4-0 and the 2007 and 2018 editions of the FA Cup Final in which Chelsea won 1-0 in both. The rivalry has extended to the players as well, such as a rivalry developed between Chelsea defender John Terry and Man United defender Rio Ferdinand, as both were considered world-class English centre-backs at the time.[5] MattCassar28 (talk) 20:19, 16 August 2022 (UTC)
