Player additions

Some editors are not reading/noticing the rule box in the squad section before editing. Players should not be added to this list until Chelsea's official website announces the completion of the signing after passing a medical. (in rare unlikely circumstances, some transfers fail from a medical problem, or the player cannot agree a deal.) Same applies to squad numbers when not listed on the squad list, or without a reference for other players. XTomScottx (talk) 13:28, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Change of squad numbers

Juan Mata has been confirmed to take the number 10, with Yossi changing to number 30. This has been confirmed by Chelsea's official website. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lszanto (talkcontribs) 16:59, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Second that, Yossi benayoun has apparently given mata the number 10 because of the spaniards emotional attachment to that number. (http://www.chelseafc.com/page/LatestNews/0,,10268~2433219,00.html) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.86.151.103 (talk) 18:48, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Squad table format

A discussion is being held here on the possibility of rolling out a new squad template. The new template, named {{football squad player2}}, differs from the standard squad layout in several ways:

  • It features a sort function
  • Comes in a single column format that can be understood by screen readers.
    • Single column format ensures that low resolution browsers, including mobile devices, do not get part or all of the second column cut off.
    • Single column format ensures less clutter, particularly at lower resolutions, for wide sections such as the Arsenal loan section.
  • It gives nationality its own column; at present flags are featured in a blank, untitled column
  • It complies with Wikipedia's guidance on flag usage.
  • It leaves enough space to add images of current players, an example of which can be seen at Watford F.C#Current squad.

It is proposed that the new template be added to some of Wikipedia's most high-profile club articles, which might include Chelsea F.C.. To give your thoughts, please read and contribute to the discussion at WikiProject Football.

Barcelona should be in rivalries

Barcelona have been a huge rival in the champions league, especially in the past few years. The encounter has brought some cracking matches upon us as well. So i think Barcelona should be added to the rivalries section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tobias Watson (talkcontribs) 19:50, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

While it's true they've had some big matches in the last few years, I don't agree that it makes them genuine rivals. I doubt many fans of either club would have the other near the top of a rivalries list. SteveO (talk) 12:30, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Inconsistency in honours section

Chelsea's honours section includes runners-up places only for the World Club Cup. I highly doubt that anybody at Chelsea Football Club or any of their fans apart from the Far Eastern Johnny-come-latelys would say that that performance was in a league of its own compared to, say, the 2008 Champions League Final, or, let's be blunt, the League Cup Final of that year.

Either have it removed or put in all runner-up places. Indiasummer95 (talk) 13:03, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Leicester rivalry

Someone recently added a few lines detailing a rivalry between Chelsea and Leicester. I've never heard of this before. All the sources given are just blogs and message board discussions, not considered reliable, and not all of them are agreed that said rivalry exists anyway. That their hooligans had a few fights back in the 70s and 80s doesn't really make a rivalry, especially since most hooligan groups had a run-in with Chelsea's at one time or another.

The "we all follow the Chelsea over land and sea (and Leicester)" chant isn't sung because of a rivalry with Leicester. It's in the chant either because a coach full of Chelsea fans en route to a match passed a road sign which read "To the North and Leicester" and someone decided to add it, or because some Chelsea fans went up to a reserve game at Leicester and added "and Leicester" when the song was sung at Stamford Bridge the following Saturday (the latter reason is the one given in Rick Glanvill's Official Biography).

very minor change in my eyes, but I've put the word English before 'Premier League' to read English Premier League. Under the heading "Players", there should be a squad number change under the "First team squad" section. The number for Thibaut Courtois should be changed from "--" to "13" because he made his first appearance for the club today and he was given the number 13. Recently, there was a change on this Wikipedia article that took away the number 13 from Victor Moses and replaced it with "--", but this article change was not complete as the article is not updated to show the current player with squad number 13, Thibaut Courtois.

Location

I have updated the article to state the club are located in Chelsea. Whilst the stadium sits in the Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, it does not sit in Fulham. It reasonably can be considered to be located in Chelsea, as the boundaries of the district are indistinct and have changed (expanded) over time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Polkatronixx (talkcontribs) 14:51, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Please give us a source for the area in which the stadium is located. I am afraid that unsourced, the statement "it can reasonably be considered" is only your opinion. Britmax (talk) 15:11, 26 October 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough - I can't find a documented source to show the stadium is in Chelsea. That said, it's in Hammersmith and Fulham - but not Fulham. It's located off the Fulham Road (e.g. the road to Fulham) and Fulham high street is located in the south of the Borough, near Craven Cottage. Stamford Bridge sits in Walham Green (Moore Park). Perhaps "Fulham" has become shorthand for this area of the Borough, but there are distinct settlements nearby, such as Parsons Green (and Walham Green). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Polkatronixx (talkcontribs) 15:09, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Possible Vandalism

It seems as if the squad has been edited to include four Laotian players who do not actually play for the team according to the official club website. At the same time, Andre Schürrle, Willian, Eden Hazard, and Oscar has been removed. InsanePsychic (talk) 05:27, 13 November 2014 (UTC)

Chelsea Crest

A line in the paragraph about the crest, although referenced from the official website is wrong. 'In 1986, with Ken Bates now owner of the club, Chelsea's crest was changed again as part of another attempt to modernise and to capitalise on new marketing opportunities.' It was in fact to move us away from the image of hooliganism - I can't find a source but I remember reading it countless times when I was younger. (Marketing opportunities in football weren't too common in the 1980s, good bit of spin by Chelsea there) - is anyone aware of a source that shows this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.71.45.115 (talk) 04:31, 13 December 2014 (UTC)

One of the reasons Bates changed the crest was because the old one was not (and probably could not be) copyrighted to the club. Arsenal ended up changing their badge for the same reason. I think that is what is meant by 'marketing opportunities', though perhaps the wording could be improved. SteveO (talk) 18:30, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Do not emphasize nationality without good reason - I don't think the indication of nationality (and the flags) of coaching staff serves any purpose here, and should be removed. STSC (talk) 01:50, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

Top flight record in 38 game season

Chelsea F.C's 29 wins in 2004-05 was a Premier League record. Spurs won 31 in 1960-61 but that was a 42 game top flight season. Is 29 wins the record in a 38 game top flight season in England? Mobile mundo (talk) 00:47, 8 December 2016 (UTC)
