Associated acts and genres

[edit]

In making a series of changes to this article, I was recently met with disagreement from fellow user @Almostangelic123:. I reinstated the edit without discussion, which I definitely should not have done (and which Almostangelic justly called out). However, I still believe the edits I made are improvements.

One of the sources of contention was that "associated acts that were added are NOT associated! Especially when it’s a producer who has only produced one or two songs". I believe this to be either a mischaracterization of information or a possible blind spot, as I changed the associated acts.

I removed Icona Pop and Iggy Azale, as both have only collaborated with Charli once. This to me seems to clearly not define an "associated act", as that would mean Christine and the Queens, Sky Ferreira, Tommy Cash, Haim, Lizzo, Big Freedia, Clairo, and Yaeji would all be added just from Charli's feature list alone.

As for additions and changes here, I added BJ Burton, Danny L Harle, Dylan Brady, Easyfun, and Stargate. These are producers Charli has worked with extensively:

  • Burton executive produced How I'm Feeling Now in addition to producing or co-producing six tracks from it. That alone warrants a significant connection.
  • Harle should be removed, I thought he'd collaborated with her more than twice but I was mistaken.
  • Brady has produced three songs on her last two albums, contributed music to a fourth, remixed a song, and collaborated with her as part of 100 Gecs.
  • Easyfun (real name Finn Keane) has produced five songs himself and another two with Easy FX (him and Cook).
  • Stargate have produced seven songs for Charli, including a few for that cancelled album a few years back.

Saying that producers being invalid inclusions because of a couple songs while including Azalea and Icona Pop is misguided in my opinion, but it's also outright incorrect as I've illustrated. Also, I moved Nasty Cherry to the top, as generally acts that an individual is a member of are placed first. There's no MOS for this so I have no strong feelings about its placement, but that's why I moved it up.

As for genre, I simplified to pop and pop-punk based on Template:Infobox musical artist#genre. Dance-pop, electropop, and avant-pop are all subgenres of pop, so a simple "pop" can cover it with further subgenres being explored in the article body, rather than repeatedly putting weight on the Cosmopolitan source as if a single magazine has more bearing than the numerous other sources listing genres in the same section. Pop-punk is largely considered a subgenre of rock so its inclusion made sense to me as a clear distinction.

This has been very long, but hopefully it explains my changes and thought process better. I'd love to hear thoughts from both Almostangelic and any other editors who follow this page. Sock (tock talk) 16:57, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, there are guidelines for associated acts at Template:Infobox musical artist#associated_acts. Sundayclose (talk) 23:13, 10 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Let's Keep It Charli XCX

[edit]

Mainly because if using the lowercase then multiple things will then have to be changed and moved such as song articles.

It's also not that big of a difference. Let's just keep it uppercase to avoid confusion. 67.230.43.70 (talk) 00:56, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

um i agree 80%, it's hard to change also im afraid that if her name will be changed to XCX again after 7th album. but we don't know when chali's 7th album will be released, like it can take 1~2 years. then people will confuse abt it, even tho it's not that big of a diff Arismauve (talk) 00:16, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It seems like people have not seen this talk page section before committing to lowercase the three letters. Also doing it in every part of the article does not work properly, e.g. List of awards and nominations received by Charli xcx is a red link. Yes we need other people's opinion too.. hmm what's your think? I'm neutral opinion. If they change to "xcx" then i'll agree, or if they want to keep it as "XCX" i'll agree too. But i'm afraid that if there are more people who want to change to all lowercase. Arismauve (talk) 02:02, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We need to wait to see if media actually begin referring to her as Charli xcx, and right now that hasn't been clear. There's no need to change, as I also don't see any statements from her saying that she prefers lowercase. Alyo (chat·edits) 16:02, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
yes, you're right, till yet Charli didnt state any opinions on her name. also if we change this document's name from XCX to xcx, i think it can cause a lot of works. Arismauve (talk) 22:28, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

CRASH is listed as her highest debut of her career, when her most recent album BRAT was double the sales of CRASH its first week. It also has a metacritic score of 95, making it her most acclaimed album to date. 2600:4808:5AF1:FC00:ACCE:B21A:1CE3:50C3 (talk) 18:01, 15 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The final sentence of the "Musical Style" section states that "Charli XCX's has been described as a figurehead of the 2010s 'hyperpop' style, though she rejected the term on social media, stating that she does 'not identify with music genres.'"

The possessive of "Charli XCX's" should be changed to "Charli XCX". Cabrac (talk) 16:52, 16 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change her dad’s occupation to agent as this is what got her noticed. The attempt at hiding her nepotism defeats the transparency that Wikipedia was built off 86.188.31.156 (talk) 12:31, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion of remix album in the discography section

[edit]

Since the album was released, I was trying to add it but someone knows it's unnecessary. What do you think? Ahri Boy (talk) 06:32, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It clearly states "Studio albums", therefore we don't list every album release. ภץאคгöร 11:41, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
