added full per-day scores for knockout matches
[edit]The results for the knockout matches previously only gave the number of days won, with the tiebreakers as a whole counted as one day. I replaced this by the full per-day scores because:
- This gives a more detailed picture of the course of the match.
- This is the information provided by the source, whereas the previous results were one step of analysis removed from the source.
- There was no satisfactory way in the previous format to deal with undecided days. The matches are aborted once the match winner is decided, and this may leave the winner of the second day undecided. The article had counted such undediced days as wins for the match winner, but the resulting score would not in fact have been reached if the day had been played out to a draw. (If for some reason you don't like the change and want to revert it, please provide another solution to this problem.)

- In the meantime, the larger of each pair of per-day scores has been set in boldface. This is misleading for the undecided days: If the match was aborted because the player who won the first day reached 2 points on the second day (and was thus certain to win the match), this player didn't win the second day – the day (but not the match) could have ended in a tie if it had been played out. I therefore removed the boldface from such second-day results and left it only where the winner of the day was decided. The winner of the match is still indicated by the name being in bold, so no information is lost. Joriki (talk) 22:34, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
Why is Firouzja listed with the Iran flag?
[edit]Isn't he playing under the FIDE flag? Retxnihps (talk) 17:15, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
- You're right, I changed it. Although it says "Iran" on his personal page on the tournament site, the standings table on the tournament site uses the FIDE flag, not the Iranian flag. His FIDE rating page also says "Federation: FIDE". (Perhaps it wasn't done here because the FIDE flag template wasn't working; I fixed that.) Joriki (talk) 22:58, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- It turns out that the FIDE logo is not free for use, and the change was reverted for that reason. I don't think displaying the Iranian flag next to Alireza's name after he decided not to play under it is an appropriate solution to this problem. I'd suggest that we just write "FIDE" where the flag would be. Alternatively, we could leave that space empty (which is currently what happens if "FIDE" is specified as the nationality, since there's no associated flag image). I'd appreciate input on this before I make a change so we don't get into further reversions. Joriki (talk) 05:10, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- Both writing "FIDE" and leaving the space blank should work. Alternatively, someone created a blank flag here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_Blank.svg — I am not sure if it would work inside the flag template. Retxnihps (talk) 17:05, 28 May 2021 (UTC)
- OK, I tried both solutions; writing "FIDE" didn't look good (neither for {{flagicon}}, nor for {{flagathlete}}), so I set the FIDE flag to the empty placeholder flag and used the flag templates with parameter "FIDE" .

Infobox and Boldface
[edit]When I was fixing some aspects of the page previously, I had taken a set infobox from the 2021 ATP tour page (hence the "Achievements (singles)" bit). Ideally, it would be great to use another infobox as I am not sure which one would be suitable. Also, Joriki (talk) had pointed out an edit that involved me changing the bolding of the FTX Crypto Cup section. This has been amended as I made the edit due to another user using a different bolding format than the others present in the other tournaments. SpyroeBM (talk) 04:39, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
- In addition to using a different bolding format, you had also re-bolded inconclusive second-day results with 2 points in some tournaments but not in others. I've reverted that now since you didn't address it in your response here. Please see my rationale above for unbolding these. If you disagree, we can discuss it, but either way the bolding should be consistent throughout the article. Joriki (talk) 17:33, 29 May 2021 (UTC)
