Category Winners

[edit]

Do we want category winners listed here with the overall winners, or a seperate article for each category? IF they are listed here the article will be very cluttered! What do people think? Kev (talk) 11:48, 22 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

New rules

[edit]

Taken from a CAMRA website:

In-order to make the selection process more transparent and also to involve more CAMRA members, the Champion Beer of Britain (CBoB) competition selection process saw a number of changes in 2008.

In-line with the agreement at the 2007 CAMRA members’ weekend, the country was divided into 9 areas; (i) North West England (ii) Wales (iii) West Midlands (iv) South West (v) South East & London (vi) East Anglia (vii) East Midlands (viii) Scotland and Northern Ireland (ix) Yorkshire and North East

The existing beer categories were used.

For CBoB 2008, each area was allowed to enter upto one finalist into the Mild, Strong Bitter, Golden Ale and Speciality categories and two finalists in the Bitter and Best Bitter categories. Additionally the winner of the Champion Winter Beer of Britain (CWBOB) held in January 2008 went forward into the final.

For CWBoB 2009, each area was allowed to enter upto one finalist in the Strong Mild/Old Ale, Porter, Stout and Barley Wine categories. The winner will go forward to the CboB final at GBBF 2009.

Two methods of selection could be used (i) selection by Tasting Panels and (ii) selection by Area Competition. CAMRA Branch beer festivals were not considered centrally, but could be used to supplement tasting panel selections, where a suitable panel including trained tasters was used at the beer festival.

CBoB 2009 and CWBoB 2010 will see a move to all finalists being selected by Area Competitions, with the beers taking part in the Area competitions being selected from a mixture of Tasting Panel scores and CAMRA Branch
