Carrs Lane Church → The Church at Carrs Lane – the Church has changed its name to reflect the coming together of 2 denominations – Rcappell1 (talk) 15:07, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). KGirlTrucker81 huh? what I'm been doing 19:02, 30 September 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. Common name, as opposed to marketing attempt. Given the unwieldy nature of the new name, I very much doubt if the common name will change. -- Necrothesp (talk) 17:35, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
- Carrs Lane Church was the name of the URC Church and it was agreed when forming the LEP (Local Ecumenical Partnership) with the Methodists that the name should change to reflect the circumstances [1]. this recognised by both the denominations [2]. its is important to the Church to have the name changed on Wikipedia as it is where many other parties get information from. - Oppose per Necrothesp. We're not here to serve the needs or wishes of the church. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:54, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- i am new to this so please forgive my ignorance. the Church have legally changed the name of the Church as such Carrs Lane Church doe not exist [3]. the building has been renamed, all signage has been changed to reflect the new name. Rcappell1 (talk) 13:44, 6 October 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose. Reliable sources appear to still call it Carrs Lane Church, even after the name change,[1][2] so that is the common name. @Rcappell1: have a look at WP:COMMONNAME and WP:NAMECHANGES and you may see why we don't automatically change the name when an organisation changes its own name. We wait to see what third party sources call it. — Amakuru (talk) 18:56, 8 October 2016 (UTC)
- Closing comment: A classic case of an RM that seems to have ignored wp:official names, perhaps I should renew my previous attempts to give that essay a bit more prominence, it might save a lot of time. Andrewa (talk) 09:43, 9 October 2016 (UTC)
