Former Academy Players
[edit]Is this list correct? The reason I'm asking is that the bulk came through the youth system; is this player list intended to be purely for players coming through after it got academy status? Maybe an idea to split the section into Academy graduates and previous graduates? ie, have something like a pre-Academy history section, listing notable former youths? Certainly Searle, Young, Jerome didn't come from the Academy... Jerome joined us at 18, so may have been final year, possibly? Minkythecat (talk) 12:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- The list is made up of players who have come through the youth system at Cardiff rather than the relativley new academy. The article as a whole is basically on the Cardiff youth system rather than the academy specifically. Kosack (talk) 14:44, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed - might be useful clarifying that, maybe separating. Too little time :p Minkythecat (talk) 15:00, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Academy Players
[edit]Is Sak actually an academy player? I thought he'd just joined on a full pro contract? Minkythecat (talk) 12:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
- To be honest I have no idea as information on Sak seems to be very thin on the ground, but he joined the club at eighteen so qualifies for the under-18's so is still listed here (similar to Ramsey who is unlikely to return to the under-18's but still qualifies). Lead
[edit]- "The Cardiff City Under-23 side is the highest age group of football other than the senior first team at the club, although clubs" - the text in bold can be changed to either teams, squads or sides to avoid close repetition of the word "team" in the same sentence
- "including John Kerr who died suddenly while still holding the position." - while employed in the position.
- "the club announced plans to upgrade the academy to category one status, the highest possible rating available, and appointed Steve Morison as the club's under-23 manager." - repetition of the word "club"
Background
[edit]- "In the post war era," - post war should be hyphened
- "The most prominent of these, such as Nathan Blake, Damon Searle and Jason Perry, were dubbed "the darling buds of Eddie May" - who dubbed those players as "the darling buds of Eddie May"?
- "later stated that during this period the youth system" - a comma is missing between the words "period" and "the"
- "was viewed as an "unattractive prospect" - this need to be expanded to say who viewed this as an "unattractive prospect" where possible
Early progress
[edit]- "ranging from 7 to 18-years olds" - typo; it should be spelt as year
- "Chairman Sam Hammam projected an annual cost of £1 million to run the academy." - you don't need to mention Hammam's full name and occupation as it is mentioned earlier in the paragraph
- "During the 2016–17 season," - shouldn't that be 2006–07 season?
- "Robinson was credited as being a key figure in Ramsey's decision" - credited by whom?
- "to reject interest from other clubs but left the club suddenly in 2007 with the club refusing to elaborate on the decision." - too many uses of the word "club" in the same sentence
- "It is also used by the wider local community in Cardiff." - used as what? a sports facility or community meeting space or something else?
Further development
[edit]- "a new age group side was launched as the Cardiff City under-21 side" - repetition of the word "side"
Restructuring
[edit]- "Bellamy stood down after an accusation of bullying from the parents of a former academy player which Bellamy denied." - , which he denied.
References
[edit]- References 17, 18 and 72 are dead and will need to be archived
- Reference 41 is missing the publisher of the source
