Naming
[edit]the field is so named after the fisherman who found it, apparently he kept on getting oil etc in his nets when fishing that area and repeatably told PEMEX about it who refused to believe him until he took a few of them out in his boat, i'll see if i can find a ref for it. - The fisherman story varies from source to source: in one newspaper article [1] he new about the seeps very long (1961) but did't bother to tell anybody. Only later, when he met an PEMEX engineer, he told him about the oily spots on the ocean. Nevertheless, PEMEX writes in their Annual Reports, that they began exploring in 1972 with first geophysical surveys. The production began in 1979 with the first field of the complex tapped, it was quickly ramped up >1 Mb/d. --Gunnar (talk) 18:26, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
Decline
[edit]This article: http://www.gasandoil.com/goc/frame_ntl_news.htm talks about the decline of this oil field.Agre22 (talk) 12:41, 1 January 2009 (UTC)agre22 I read also on the site http://www.gasandoil.com/goc/frame_ntl_news.htm today, that only with injection of CO2, this oil field will become big again, but Pemex doesn't knows where to find so much CO2 as needed. I'll would suggest to use CO2 from ethanol production. For one liter of ethanol, we must produce about one kilo of CO2.Agre22 (talk) 20:37, 31 December 2009 (UTC)agre22
Graph of decline
[edit]A graph or chart showing the rate of decline would be useful for this article. Is anyone up to it. - Shiftchange (talk) 23:10, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- @Shiftchange: I added the production figures from the SEC Filings (see table in Cantarell Field #Production History). Earlier PEMEX reports did not have a disaggregation field by field. Does anybody know where to find the first half of the production data from 1979 until the peak? --Gunnar (talk) 18:30, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
