E-boat vs S-boat

[edit]

This is an issue of ongoing concern. The entire classification of German-built or influenced motor torpedo boats of Lurssen type as 'enemy boats' on English Wikipedia is a real issue. What are we trying to say? Other areas of Wiki are spectacularly progressive in their efforts for precise, specific, unbiased and unambiguous writing.

It is a complete mystery to many of us why Wikipedia is now a full fifteen years behind the curve on 'moving with the times' and describing the 60-115 ton Lurssen-type MTBs of the pre-war and WW2 period as schnellboote. It seems easy, but apparently it's really difficult?

Bottom line: if we are trying to talk about things in a neutral manner (and Wikipedia does strive for neutrality), then we cannot be using a foreigner's nickname as an article title for anything which is being discussed from a technical perspective. The article on the English People, I note, is not called 'Les Rosbifs'.

While the Wikipedia article which is currently still titled 'E-boat' is still stuck in this mire of an inappropriate foreign misnomer as a title, there is, neverthelss no reason at all for us to be using the same misnomer in separate articles. This one is not a bad article at all, otherwise! And, in fact, I will go as far as to say that this is the article which the present 'E-boat' mess should strive to be.

In all other regards, good work and keep it up, community! 2A00:23C7:3119:AD01:D8C3:8F66:3B45:1F4D (talk) 19:33, 4 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
