Trivia

[edit]

When Buzz opens the control panel on his left arm, the molded inscription reads, "MADE IN TAIWAN," a country known for its high-tech toys.

As far as I'm concerned, when talking about his buttons and whatnot, what does what, etc. I humbly support the inclusion of this information, as it does in fact help to explain some of the details of the movie, such as how Woodie can open Buzz' "dome," punch him in the face, then close the dome. More information is better than less.

Someone should talk about Buzz' "character development" during the first movie, where he sees the ad for himself and realizes that he's just a clone of a popular commercial product, just as Woody had foretold.

This Wikipedia entry deserves a B. But, maybe it's a C+.

Consider this

[edit]

A large section of this article is not actually on Buzz Lightyear, but talking about his suit and equipment, should we keep this?--Rasillon 10:00, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Relation to Buzz Aldrin

[edit]

Does anyone know if the character was named after Buzz Aldrin? Aledmb 12:32, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Answer

[edit]

Yes, the character was inspired by Aldrin. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.19.14.31 (talk) 03:26, 1 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Or not 85.227.226.168 11:47, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was indeed —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.154.72.255 (talk) 13:28, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

slag?

[edit]

What's a slag? It is a toy!

confusion

[edit]

this article is quite confusing beetwen -THE TOY of toy story with fake technological suit and its very small size -THE SPACE RANGER of the tv serie that lives in a fictional hi-tech universe similar of "star wars" or "star trek"

Middle name

[edit]

Why did soenmone put "Bundy" as his middle name? is it official or vandalism? That I'd like to know.65.173.90.94 10:16, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As far as I know, Buzz does not have a middle name [[user:barry thimble]

This article is incredibly low-quality, in my opinion. Many of the article's parts appear to be the work of a ten year old or a very effective vandal, especially things like "fisical" and the rambling section about the character's invincibility.

In my opinion, this article could use a complete rewrite.

vandalism

[edit]

I reversed the recent edits which included vandalism. Rather than sort through them all I just rolledback. regards --Npnunda (talk) 23:45, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well you deleted the photo, and my edits which were decidely not vandalism, How about you act more appropriately with rollback rights?--Aujourd'hui, maman est morte (talk) 01:43, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I reversed your edits again as Buzz Lightyear is showing up under the Category:People currently in space This is a category for Astronauts and not cartoons. I'll add the photo again. --Npnunda (talk) 01:54, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See your talk page, category removed, could have been done without reverting the cited information I added. --Aujourd'hui, maman est morte (talk) 01:58, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I stumbled into this discussion because of a edit conflict on Npnunda's talk page, it looks like Aujourd'hui, maman est morte's edit is on the page now so all is well. But Npnunda you can not use roll back just because it is easier, that is NOT what rollback is for. Never do that again, please read WP:ROLL! I can not stop Aujourd'hui, maman est morte to report you to ANI, but I think you should apologize and hope he he will not do it. --Stefan talk 02:15, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I wanted to write that my use of rollback here was really stupid on my part. What was I thinking? I did fix this with Aujourd'hui, maman est morte and you can read about it on our talk pages if you so choose. Regards --Npnunda (talk) 02:50, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's pretty obvious that people are making a joke out of the caption. I have removed it. Error1355 (talk) 05:45, 24 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This article was featured in one of Google's Search Stories: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43flVoankXI Is that notable enough to mention at the top of the talk page in some way? dogman15 (talk) 07:24, 11 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Spouse"

[edit]

to whoever keeps adding that in on the pages of Woody, Buzz, and Jessie:

official couples haven't really been "confirmed" in the movies yet (even *if* there has been "hints"). The third movie is ALMOST out. Can you please wait until it's out before trying to determine who ends up with who as a couple?

also, you would not call their significant other a "spouse" either way. They are toys, toys don't get married. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.176.194.206 (talk) 00:07, 13 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mrs. Nesbit Suggestion

[edit]

Mrs. Nesbit redirects to this article, but the article contains no explanation why, and in fact does not even contain the phrase "Mrs. Nesbit".--Theodore Kloba (talk) 14:12, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Theodore Kloba: - Mrs. Nesbit was the name that Sid's sister used after Buzz lost his arm when falling down the stairway. Iggy (Swan) 19:31, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wording

[edit]

The paragraph about the action figure begins with "Toy figure, Buzz Lightyear, with packaging, licensed from the film Toy Story, plastic / cardboard, made for Thinkway Toys in China, 1995-1999." I'm genuinely curious - given that this is probably a high-traffic article, how did this happen? -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 17:59, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced voice actors

[edit]

An editor, using multiple IP addresses, has repeatedly made unsourced changes regarding the character's voice actors in video games and other media. Evidently, this information is not supported in any reliable sources, and the game credits don't specify who voiced who. Wikipedia has a custom Google search feature that looks through various video game publications. Using that search engine, I cannot find any reliable sources for MacRae voicing the character in video games, and it seems this was merely the result of guesswork from someone who then had their friends spread the idea around on wiki sites and IMDb, both unreliable sources (WP:UGC). Also unsourced is Pat Fraley as the voice of Buzz in Toy Story Treats, as well as video games, merchandise and theme park attractions. I can't find reliable sources to support this. Also:

  • As far as I recall, Toy Story Treats doesn't have any end credits that can be referred to.
  • Fraley is only confirmed to have voiced the character in two computer games released in 1996. Other games with him as Buzz would require additional sources.
  • I'm not sure what kind of merchandise is being referenced here. I guess action figures. But obviously the toys themselves won't actually tell you who voiced them, so this would also require a reliable source.
  • Where would one even look to find cast information for a theme park attraction?

I think this stuff should be removed until reliable sources can be found, if they exist. The burden to provide reliable sources is on the editor who wants to add or restore such information.  AJFU  (talk) 18:29, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Most Toy Story fans would know from the credits that Tim Allen voices him but the video games can't be found in the article at present so that should not be there with a WP:RS. Only film appearances should be there as the sources are made by the production team. Iggy (Swan) 19:31, 3 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@AJFU No offense, but you don't even know that user (CerealBoxHead46) on BTVA.com, saying he's "quote" on "quote" guessworking the information with someone and making it up and this and that, he's the one that did a lot of evidence/research and compared the voices on whose who, that did the voice of Buzz. But still, we all know it wasn't Stephen Stanton, because he only did Buzz on Mad, and if you actually listened closely in that episode, his voice of Buzz in Mad sounds nothing like the one compared too in the video games listed on the Mike MacRae article. Besides, you don't even know his friends either, what makes you think they are spreaing around the info with him and this and that about the information of him voicing Buzz, you don't even know if that's true or not. You can't make up stuff over a user you don't even know. No offense, just saying what your saying about him is not true. Besides, the other user that was adding the Buzz info back in the Mike MacRae article and on this article here is right, because user:CerealBoxHead46 on BTVA.com worked really hard to get the information correct and on IMDb, so please don't blame him for making it all up, please. Go ask him yourself, he will actually show you evidence that MacRae did the voice of Buzz. 174.192.11.221 (talk) 01:58, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Look at what that user wrote, comparing voices and looking through credits and trying to speculate who voiced Buzz. I don't know what else you could call that other than guesswork, which wasn't meant as an insult. My point was that speculation is not enough for Wikipedia. We require reliable sources to verify content. I didn't say he made it up. He obviously put effort into his search, but that doesn't guarantee that he got it right. And I didn't blame him. I simply pointed out the apparent origins of this claim that MacRae voiced the character in the video games. However, I do blame whoever keeps adding it back into the Wikipedia articles without any reliable sources. Also, if it is true, then I think it's odd that no reliable sources have reported about MacRae being the voice actor. If there are no sources reporting on this, I'd take that as a sign that it's not noteworthy information to include. What doesn't help to prove your case is that this all leads back to a forum user who may or may not have gotten it right. We need evidence from a reliable source, not a forum user. Also, the user wrote that he shared his conclusion with his friends, who then added it to (unreliable) sites like IMDb. I did not make that up. It's there in the forum post. I don't have to know him or his friends in order to read what he wrote. You're right that I don't know if it's true or not (the friends spreading it around), but is there any reason to doubt what he wrote?  AJFU  (talk) 15:07, 4 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
If you watch some of MacRae's stand-up routines on YouTube, you can hear his voice sounds very similar to Tim Allen's voice. I know YouTube doesn't count as a source, but it's just to show some evidence of his voice. Because it wasn't Stephen Stanton that voiced him, because he voiced Buzz in Mad. Videos:https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HbKWpIXRXIM. 2600:1000:B01F:84C6:994:AE95:1DE4:524 (talk) 21:17, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. He's also listed here in some of the credits of the video games MacRae was in, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EdBVr8vVAvw, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0xrXZGFtCm0, https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6VpQek0eGSA. Still, IMDb isn't unreliable and wrong, the info is right and correct. 2600:1000:B06A:197B:D1D1:A01D:8601:3BBC (talk) 21:39, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As I already said, the credits don't specify which character he voiced. IMDb is considered unreliable by Wikipedia because it is a user-generated website (anyone can change it). It might not be wrong in this case, but it can't be used here as a source. I never said Stephen Stanton voiced him in the games.  AJFU  (talk) 14:39, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

But still, not every actor doesn't need to be sourced in order for them to be kept in the article. So what.... not a big deal. 2600:1000:B057:3EBB:581C:9F1E:7C03:1362 (talk) 16:23, 25 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
