Concerning to the map in ASEAN (I can add a larger dot if editors think it looks too small, as in the case of Singapore)

Brunei is a small country, so it may be barely visible in this map (and the same concern I have about Singapore, so I'll also edit this comment in the Singapore article Talk Page). If the editors about Brunei have any problem with it, I can add a quite larger dot on Brunei's location (and the same is applyable to Singapore). Thanks for reading and for suggestions. I have created and nominated Tourism in Brunei for DYK. You can see nomination of article here. Article has some issues mentioned in that nomination, if anyone is interested in fixing issues of article then kindly fix it so that article will feature on the main page of Wikipedia. GA Reassessment

This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Brunei/GA4. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

This page fails to meet the GA Criteria. Primarily it fails in the following areas:

- '1. Well Written' - There are various grammatical errors throughout the article. Ref: the Animal Rights section.

- '2. Verifiable with no original research' - There are several unsourced statements. "Foreign workers tend to emigrate from non-Muslim countries.", "As of August 2015, there were no cases within the Sharia Penal Code that would entail the death penalty without four qualified witnesses." and "Stray animals especially dogs and cats are protected their rights by NGO group in Brunei." are examples.

Comment: I've done a few changes to the article, specifically to the areas that you have mentioned above, I'll do more edits to it in the near future. Hallows AG (talk) 02:46, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

  • The prose is generally readable and conveys information, however there are errors in places, the meaning is not always clear ("Brunei is the first country in Asia to ban on shark finning nationwide."), and there is a trend toward short paragraphs, and abrupt, disconnected sentences which inhibit reading flow. The articles needs an appropriate copy-edit. SilkTork ✔Tea time 10:26, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
  • Layout. There are too many short sub-sections, which inhibit reading flow, images and media are used in a haphazard fashion, creating a jumbled disorganised appearance. See WP:Layout - in particular WP:LAYIM and MOS:BODY. The See also and External links sections need to be checked, as they appear to be over long, with dubious entries. SilkTork ✔Tea time 10:40, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
  • The citing of sources is a major concern. The article qualifies as a quick fail due to having been tagged as needing sources in multiple places since October 2015. Looking at the article history, the article had been quick failed on 20 December 2011 for lack of sources, then was passed four days later, even though the sourcing issue had not been addressed. A FAC in Jan 2012 was quickly rejected because of the sourcing issues, and it was suggested at that time that a GAR take place to remove the GA listing. I don't think I need continue this review. The article clearly does not meet GA requirements. This GAR has been open since September 2015, with the same sourcing concerns, and they still haven't been addressed. SilkTork ✔Tea time 10:57, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

General comments

This is a clear fail, and I will delist the article. It is somewhat concerning that such a poorly sourced and messy article has been listed as a Good Article since December 2011, even though several people were aware of its faults. One of the strengths of the GA process is that delisting can be easily done by any editor in good standing without the need for red tape. I understand the reluctance to get involved, but folks should not be afraid to initiate an individual GAR, and to carry out a delisting when an article clearly does not meet the GA criteria. However, if unsure - perhaps because of prior involvement in an article, there is also the option of a community GAR, or approaching an experienced reviewer, such as myself - as was done in this case. There's a rather nasty spelling error in the caption of the map figure in section 2.2 (War with Spain and Decline). I can't edit it, so can someone change the 'lose' in 'Brunei territorial lose from 1400 to 1890' to 'loss'? Caslavcuperlovic (talk) 13:17, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

In the 4th paragraph from the top it it mentioned that Brunei is one of two countries that have 0 public debt. The other is given as Libya. However that is out of date. Libya is not doing so well these days, so that should be deleted.

Please omit "Indianized" as the two Sultanate kingdoms of Cebu and Butuan were not Indianized but rather distinct or unique from other kingdoms. We can conclude that it is actually "Philipinized". The language of this section feels poorly constructed, subjective and potentially misleading. Not up to encyclopedic standards. Hoping someone can revise:

Relations with the Philippines which Brunei has been in a love-hate dynamic with due to the constant wars they waged against each other, in their territories; like when Arab led Malay-Bruneians destroyed Panay's Court of Nobles and in some time later, Spanish lead Latinos and Filipinos burned Brunei's Great Mosque, historically, was then symbolically patched up when Filipino Visayan architect Leandro V. Mongol invasion of Brunei

I have a bit contention here with the statement, “ Marco Polo suggested in his memoirs that the Great Khan or the ruler of the Mongol Empire, attempted and failed many times in invading "Great Java" which was the European name for Bruneian controlled Borneo.”

The source linked to Robert Nicholl arguments which then dependant on Marco Polo accounts after that one attack to current Java in 1292-1293, he suggests that several attacks had been made on "Java the Great", but all to no purpose. Here Nicholl argues “Java the Great” could have been Borneo instead.

I think this is a bit of a stretch in that, Nicholl is wrong in that there were other Mongol attacks made toward Java and was recorded by the Javanese. One particular attack was defeated at sea by Arya Dikara a Majapahit naval commander based on Butak inscription dated 1294. Marco Polo could have been talking about these attacks. Ludovico di Varthema visited Borneo and used the correct term as mentioned by Nicholl, which is baffling why would then he used "Great Java" to describe a different island he visited afterward. Rather than the explanation being that European travelers at this time have the misconception that Java is the largest island in the world, hence the name "Great Java".

Robert Nicholl view that Mongol attacked Brunei is not a mainstream view by historians. "Great Java" is also mostly accepted to refer to Java.

I would have love for more sources particularly from Bruneian side whether they have been attacked by Mongol, to supplement this event. As of now, this is supposition by Nicholl and the sentence should have been worded differently or removed. 111.220.69.27 (talk) 21:40, 1 December 2021 (UTC)

Singapore dollar in the currency section of the infobox

According to this statement from the Monetary Authority of Singapore: https://www.mas.gov.sg/currency/brunei-singapore-currency-interchangeability-agreement

"Banks in both countries also accept for deposit, from the public and businesses, currency issued by the other country at par and without charge. Businesses and members of the public should not be concerned about accepting payments in Brunei currency. "

Given this information, is there any reason why the Brunei dollar shouldn't be listed as one of the currencies of Singapore in the infobox? Wkpdsrnm2023 (talk) 09:23, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
