Britney: Live in Concert / Piece of Me Tour
I believe the title should be Piece of Me Tour. This is how the show is selling since last year for the 2017 shows because is the same from residency. So I think the header name should be Piece of Me Tour. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mb4422 (talk • contribs) 21:16, 28 January 2018 (UTC)

Isn't there going to be an article about this compilation? I see the Glory article depicts this compilation as its successor, but there's no page for that. I was willing to start it, but I suppose Britney Spears related articles are monitored, so who is in charge of doing it? It's gonna be almost a year since it came out. The vague antecedent for a pronoun
From the article:
- “Her paternal grandmother, Emma Jean Spears, committed suicide on the grave of her father's infant brother; when he was age 13.”
What in the world was that verbiage supposed to mean?
This involves the problem of the Vague Antecedent. “A pronoun should not have two possible antecedents in the same sentence.” See generally Madeline Semmelmeyer & Donald O. Bolander, The New Webster’s Grammar Guide, pp. 59-60 (Berkley Books, 1987).
The pronoun “Her” appears to refer to Britney Spears. That seems OK.
However, the verbiage indicates that Emma Jean Spears committed suicide on either the grave of Emma’s father’s infant brother, or on the grave of Britney’s father’s infant brother. The proper antecedent for the pronoun “her” is unclear.
The sentence goes on to say that this event occurred when “he” (presumably referring to either Emma’s father’s infant brother or Britney’s father’s infant brother) was “age 13.” If the person in question had a grave, that person presumably was dead and buried. We do not normally refer to a dead person as being “age 13” (or any other age) after the person is dead. Again, the proper antecedent for the pronoun “he” is unclear.
Perhaps the pronoun “he” was intended to refer to the father -- not to the father’s dead infant brother. If so, perhaps the article should read:
- “Britney’s paternal grandmother, Emma Jean Spears, committed suicide on the grave of Emma’s father's infant brother; when Emma’s father was age 13.”
I’m not going to subscribe to the New York Times just to try to sort out what the heck the article is trying to say here.

Personal Life
Spears dated Justin Timberlake from 1998-2002, after meeting on The Mickey Mouse Club.[1][2] They made headlines after wearing matching denim outfits on the red carpet to the 2001 AMA.[3]
In Jan. 2004, Spears married her childhood friend, Jason Alexander, in Vegas. The marriage was annulled 55 hours later.[4]
Spears married Kevin Federline on October 6th 2004, after a three month courtship. Federline and Spears have two sons together, Sean Preston (born September 14, 2005) and Jayden James (born September 12, 2006). In 2005, the former couple starred in the reality television series Britney & Kevin: Chaotic.[5] In Nov. 2006, Spears filed for divorce and was finalized July 2007. On July 26, 2008, Federline was granted sole legal and physical custody of the children with Spears having visitation rights, that has since been changed to 70-30.[6] Federline receives an estimated $35,000 per month in child support.[7]
In December 2011, Spears became engaged to her former agent and boyfriend of a year and half, Jason Trawick. In January 2013, Spears and Trawick broke-up.[8]
Spears has been dating Sam Asghari since 2016, after meeting him on the set of of her music video "Slumber Party."[9] — Preceding unsigned comment added by IMme4u09 (talk • contribs) 19:22, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

Split conservatorship details into new article
With the ongoing news coverage, I suggest splitting the sections #2008–2010: Conservatorship and Circus and #2019–present: Conservatorship dispute, #FreeBritney, and abuse allegations into its own article, titled Conservatorship of Britney Spears. There is another article of the name Conservatorship of Wendland, however it's focus is about a court ruling. The Free Britney Movement article might be of use. SWinxy (talk) 06:30, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- I was about to consider doing it myself had I not seen the template. At least two Senators who normally wouldn’t agree on anything have engaged on this subject because it will now domino effect almost all conservatorships. Trillfendi (talk) 14:03, 2 July 2021 (UTC)
- I agree.--Doric Loon (talk) 16:59, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
- Agreed as well, and think the Free Britney Movement article could be merged into and have its own section under the Conservatorship article. Akcvtt (talk) 19:31, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- I agree.--Doric Loon (talk) 16:59, 4 July 2021 (UTC)
- Unless it expands upon what is already in the article, I'm not sure. It fits pretty comfortably into the article. SecretName101 (talk) 15:26, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- I have been working on a draft for a separate article concerning the conservatorship for a while now. Here's the link to it: Draft:Conservatorship dispute of Britney Spears. Indecisjon (talk) 19:36, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- Your draft is very good. I suggest that you move it into mainspace or submit for review. Coretheapple (talk) 20:09, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support: These sections are only going to grow. The conservatorship has taken on a life of its own and comfortably meets WP:GNG. I would move Free Britney movement to the proposed new article. Shoestringnomad (talk) 01:05, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Comment Free Britney movement already chronicles the conservatorship as a whole outside of the movement. If you move the article to Conservatorship of Britney Spears and give the article a new lead section, it would work the same way. I think a lot of what's in this article (and Indecisjon's draft) fail WP:RECENTISM, WP:DUE, and WP:NOTNEWS (e.g., Us Weekly and TMZ are cited multiple times in both). While the rising interest in the conservatorship enhances its notability, not every development warrants inclusion (e.g., her court appearance generating "over 1 million shares on Twitter"). I don't think we're going to look back ten years from now and wonder how many tweets her testimony sparked. KyleJoantalk 01:42, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support: Yes, very good idea. I was surprised to see that there was no separate article on this issue, as it has resulted in much serious debate. The "Free Britney Movement" article is insufficient. Coretheapple (talk) 20:07, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
I've moved my draft into the mainspace — the article is now Conservatorship dispute of Britney Spears. Indecisjon (talk) 00:17, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- I'm all for generating a seperate article, but the fact that it doeasn't warrant a major section in her article and a strong place in the lead smacks of scrubbing by the conservatorship itself. This is a huge part of her life, and this is her page. Please adapt your new page to the lead and a section. Thanks. Billyshiverstick (talk) 09:00, 18 July 2021 (UTC)
Years active
Years active should show 1992-present. There is no question she started her career in 1992 and it has continued to this day, despite the conservatorship AlienChex (talk) 22:12, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- I don’t know why anyone decided to hide it. There is no proof beyond hearsay that she "retired". Trillfendi (talk) 22:43, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
- She has technically stopped working on her career offficially since January 4, 2019. Larry Rudolph made a public statement about this in 2019. But the debate is whether she is technically active, so 1992-present, as a result of her brand continuing without her or whether she is on indefinite hiatus (1992-2019). For example, One Direction did not retire, they went on indefinite hiatius, like Spears did in 2019. Rudolph reiterated his comments on his public statement retiring as her manager in July 2021, saying it had been 2 1/2 years since he spoke to Spears, who said she wanted to go on indefinite hiatus, which she has been on since Jan 2019. --Thelonggoneblues (talk) 23:51, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not here to do the math and figure out if she is still active or not. We go with published sources, and nobody in the media is describing her as "retired". There's only conjecture stirred up by statements made by Larry Rudolph. The media aren't buying what he's selling. That woman is not dead yet. Binksternet (talk) 02:32, 17 July 2021 (UTC)

Attended Bela Karolyi's gymnastics camp
In her early life section we do mention briefly that she took up gymnastics in her youth. However, one, perhaps, noteworthy aspect of that we do not include is that she attended the training camp of of Bela Karolyi in her youth gymnastics. She had mentioned this herself in at least one talk show appearance in the past. I found a 1999 Newsweek article which reports that she attended it. https://www.newsweek.com/pops-sexy-teen-angel-169246 SecretName101 (talk) 14:52, 10 July 2021 (UTC)

Songwriter
No. I'm hoping a situation like that on Beyoncé's article (a very lengthy, months-long, heated debate) will be avoided. Britney Spears was described as a songwriter in the lead and infobox of this article for years, and there is no justification to remove that profession from both the lede and the infobox without any discussion nor consensus. 1. Britney Spears has over 70 songwriting credits[1] including one sole songwriting credit for the song 'Someday, I Will Understand' and Billboard-charting hits such as 'Everytime', 'Me Against the Music', 'Make Me...' and 'Work Bitch'. 2. Britney Spears has written songs for herself and other artists such as Selena Gomez and BoA. 3. Britney Spears was defined as a songwriter by major publications such as Rolling Stone[2], MTV[3], Digital Spy[4] and Billboard[5] 4. Britney's songwriting contribution may not be as extensive as some of her contemporaries, but what I've just listed shows sufficient notability for inclusion of "songwriter" in both the lede and infobox. If Spears had only co-written several songs like Céline Dion, it would be different, but that's not certainly not the case here.
OnMyRadar, TruthGuardians, TheWikiholic, castorbailey Bgkc4444, Binksternet, what do y'all think? Israell (talk) 08:52, 30 August 2021 (UTC)
- The burden of proof to prove she isn’t a song writer is up to the editor who believes there’s not enough supporting evidence to suggest that it was added against a Wikipedia rule, to explain that rule, and convince other editors that that rule is being broken. To my knowledge, it has been there for a long time. For a long time the lead of the article remain stable, with no disruptive editing to remove the content. Though I may not think of Britney Spears as a songwriter, that doesn’t mean she is not one. That also does not mean millions of others don’t think of her as one. Until it is proven that it doesn’t belong, I’ll say WP:JustDropIt and keep the content that has stabilized the lead for a long time. TruthGuardians (talk) 12:34, 30 August 2021 (UTC)
- If Beyonce has songwriter included so should Britney. There should be consistency across wiki. castorbailey (talk) 02:38, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

Britney Spears amount of records (100 vs. 150 million)
So, I have seen two claims on the wiki page, that continously get edited on and off. Both claims use Billboard as a source, but the one claiming 150 million (see here, also used by Forbes as the other editor put in) is actually talking about a number, while the other source (see here) does not even state the 100 million. Sadly, the editor OnMyRadar does not explain the deletion at all, and just kicks it out. I would like to know what the decision making is in this case? Dionysos1993 (talk) 08:42, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Years active
Not sure why there is a hidden note which indicates this is disputed but no active discussion that I have come across. It clearly says her first professional role was in the off Broadway play Ruthless! which was opened in 1992. Tinton5 (talk) 07:15, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- Add 1992-present: The question, as I understand it, is whether she is still active. We on Wikipedia reflect what media sources say, and there's no shortage of outlets writing that she is still planning to make music or that she is working on new music. See https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/23/entertainment/britney-spears-new-music/index.html for just one example. You'll find similar reports on Billboard and more. Shoestringnomad (talk) 07:46, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
- I'm going to be bold and add it, since various sources which indicate she will be making new music, including this one, and this. I think we can agree she is still in the lime light in various media appearances and interviews. Tinton5 (talk) 06:02, 6 January 2022 (UTC)
- I wouldn’t be surprised if “She’s going to retire once the conservatorship ends" was conservator propaganda. Like sure, she might’ve sought the serenity and peace but also she finally is out from under such strict stuff and can do her music freely now? I trust Britney knew this and looks forward to getting back out there. Her Vegas residency would’ve been right for her at that time whether she had the conservatorship or not, but under it it felt like a playpen (I know how it looks but I swear this is about her position to make new music and remain active)--CreecregofLife (talk) 06:06, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

- No, most recent ≠ most suitable. (CC) Tbhotch™ 21:35, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
- No, it might be more recent, but it’s still 6 years ago and a relatively negligible difference between it and the incumbent. I also don’t feel like a performance pic should be the one in the box--CreecregofLife (talk) 21:37, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

- No, her microphone is in the way of her mouth and the image already on the page is good enough. SlySabre (talk) 03:32, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
- No First of all, the microphone makes the pic look really goofy. Second of all, I could maybe understand the need to have a more recent picture if the article currently used some picture from 1998, but there's only three years between the two pictures so there really is absolutely no point. PraiseVivec (talk) 13:28, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
- No Firstly, it wouldn't improve the quality of the BLP, and secondly, the picture appears to be oddly blurry WP:IMAGESWritethisway (talk) 16:53, 23 March 2022 (UTC)
- No 3 years doesn't make much difference in practice, plus there's the mic, as already mentioned. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:33, 6 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi. Britney Spears signature DOES NOT look that way... 24.102.143.250 (talk) 05:56, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

I do know that Mark Hamill and David Prowse would verify authenticity of signatures presented to them on Twitter, but Britney hasn’t quite used her social media in that way. New section in biography?
Since Spears' conservatorship was terminated and she's now in a new stage of her life (third marriage, upcoming memoir) should we separate the current era in her biography by ending the conservatorship section in 2021 and name 2022-present with her upcoming memoir and third marriage?
Christiancore (talk) 23:17, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yeah I think so. I was starting to get concerned that everything post-conservatorship would remain in the section it ended, which would be excessive. I’m still trying to figure out a split for Bob Saget, whose final bio section spans twenty years CreecregofLife (talk) 23:22, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

- Why was this removed? She has multiple songwriting credits... 174.115.12.230 (talk) 06:44, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
@174.115.12.230, Dionysos1993, and Theknine2: Because of the perception some have of her, regardless of the facts. I’ve just corrected this. Per my edit summary: "This was discussed before, and there is too much yo-yoing in this regard. Spears has 75 songwriting credits, incl. 7 songs on her most recent studio album, 'Glory', and she has one sole songwriting credit for the single ‘Someday (I Will Understand)’. For comparison, Billie Eilish has 86 songwriting credits (all co-written), only 11 more songs, and she’s considered a songwriter. Ava Max has about 40 credits and is considered a songwriter. Besides, the article mentions Spears’ development as such."
Not only this was removed from the lead, this was removed from the infobox without any prior discussion. As evidenced by an endless discussion pertaining to Beyoncé’s article ([6], [7][8]), way too much time is spent and wasted on Wikipedia debating such matter when that time could be spent adding content to Wikipedia. If the article mentions the artist’s songwriting process and development, and the artist does indeed have songwriting as part of their regular craft, even if they only write a third of their material, then they are indeed a songwriter and it's notable enough. If, on the other hand, they barely have two or five songwriting credits or so like Whitney Houston or Céline Dion, then it may be preferable to omit that title altogether from both the lead and infobox.
And finally, for those who would bring up playing an instrument, Britney plays the piano, but that is not a prerequisite to be a songwriter. For example, it is possible to create melodies and sing them to an instrumentalist who then plays and arranges music from those melodies. One can sing a melody into a microphone, and then convert one’s voice into MIDI notes and compose music that way. One’s voice is an instrument. And goes without saying, one can author lyrics without playing any instrument at all, and a lyricist is a songwriter—so is a topline writer who authors lyrics and creates vocal melodies after the instrumental was composed. Yo-Yo/POV Edits
@OnMyRadar, Calebh12, and Carlos BCN: This was discussed before, and there is too much yo-yoing in this regard. Spears has 75 songwriting credits (mostly album tracks), incl. 7 songs on her most recent studio album 'Glory', hits such as 'Me Against the Music', 'Everytime', 'Work Bitch', 'Perfume' and 'Make Me...', the French single 'Anticipating', and she has one sole songwriting credit for the single ‘Someday (I Will Understand)’. For comparison, Billie Eilish has 86 songwriting credits (all co-written), only 11 more songs, and she’s considered a songwriter. Ava Max has about 40 credits and is considered a songwriter. Besides, the article mentions Spears’ development as such. Editors have no issue w/ this occupation listed for years, but one comes along and remove it without any discussion nor consensus. It's annoying, and it disturbs and misleads the article. Israell (talk) 23:50, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

Her second album gains a record for her debut sales? Doesn't debut mean the first?
Query under the "1998–2000: ...Baby One More Time and Oops!... I Did It Again" section where it says:
"Oops!... I Did It Again, Spears's second studio album, was released in May 2000. It debuted at number one in the US, selling 1.3 million copies, breaking the Nielsen SoundScan record for the highest debut sales by any solo artist."
I don't understand how her second album could break the Nielsen Soundscan record for the highest DEBUT sales by any solo artist. If it's her second album than it's not her debut album or her debut sales. Is there some way to clarify this because to me it reads as conflicting information.

Change the biography picture to a more recent picture of Britney Spears, such as a picture from her 2016 'Glory' photoshoot or something from a recent appearance as this picture is outdated and does not accurately reflect Britney Spears. Karinethefiaqueen (talk) 23:11, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- Not done: Hello Karinethefiaqueen, and welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia is obligated to adhere to copyright law, and thus we are restricted in what photos we may or may not use. Specifically, they need to be a free license. While we could make a fair use argument to use a non-free photo of Britney, policy dictates we use free alternatives when available. Since the current photo (File:Britney Spears 2013 (Straighten Crop).jpg) falls under a free license, we prefer it over non-free photos. This is the reason why a lot of photos on Wikipedia appear to be outdated in relation to their subject.
- You are more than welcome to suggest the usage of another image (provided it is freely licensed), though you will need to start a discussion on this page and generate consensus. The edit request process precludes requests which may be controversial and contested, and since changing the biography photo of a well known living person is a highly prominent and visible change, many patrollers classify it as contentious de facto. If you'd like to avoid this you can wait until you meet the autoconfirmed criteria and simply change the image yourself, though you'll be responsible for adhereing to all relevant guidelines when doing so.
- Happy editing! —Sirdog (talk) 23:44, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

Infobox picture
Would this image be suitable as an infobox picture? It's a more recent photo, it's of high resolution, and her face is not obstructed. Using photos of similar artists like Taylor Swift, Doja Cat (though she could definitely use a better photo)(found a significantly better photo, wasn't hard to find) and Charli XCX as reference for onstage infobox photos. "...the best-selling teenage artist of all time." But "time" isn't over!
With no disrespect to Britney Spears intended, "time" hasn't ended, and until it does it would be more appropriate, and more in compliance with Wikipedia's editorial tone, to say that she is "...the best-selling teenage artist to date."
Rolling Stone magazine has perpetrated numerous "Greatest [fill in the blank] of All Time" lists in recent years -- presumeably for the purpose of generating publicity. These lists certainly do not cover "all time." Who knows what the future holds? Consider, for example, that if Rolling Stone had made a list of the "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 1980 it would almost certainly have not included Stevie Ray Vaughan, that if Rolling Stone had made a list of the "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" in 1970 it would not have included Eddie Van Halen, that a list of the "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" made in 1960 would not include Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton, that a list of the "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" made in 1950 would not include Chuck Berry, and so on back in time.
An inherent problem with all "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" lists is that to compile a true list of "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list it would necessary to hear every guitarist who ever played the instrument -- from the inventor of the instrument hundreds of years aga and forward to the last person to play the instrument before time/the universe ends -- and also be familiar with every style and technique ever used to play the instrument, and then be able to objectively judge the every guitarist's skill within their chosen genre of guitar technique.
Consider B.B. King, Andrés Segovia, Django Reinhardt, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Kaapana, to name five guitarists recognized as masters of their individual genres. Judged by their command of the genre they play, rather than by their record sales or concert gross receipts, how can it be said that one is "greater" than the others?
Rolling Stone "Greatest [fill in the blank] of All Time" lists are more accurately described as pretentious compilation lists of the favorite [fill in the blank] of the people who have been invited to contribute to the list -- and, by default, compiled only from the cohort of [fill in the blank] that they are familiar with.
Who's to say that there isn't someone out there they don't know about who plays some genre of guitar music with greater skill than any of the guitarists they know of and like?
Getting back to Britney, record sales are not a matter of personal opinion, but until "time" ends it is more appropriate, and more in compliance with Wikipedia's editorial tone, to say that she is "...the best-selling teenage artist to date. 2603:800C:3A40:6400:D173:C631:ECB8:95 (talk) 20:56, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
LCD Soundystem collab
I added this at some point, but it was removed:
In 2003, Spears worked with the electronic musician James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem, but the collaboration was unsuccessful. A track from their collaboration was leaked online in 2006.[1]
What is the consensus here, is this too small fry to include? Popcornfud (talk) 17:21, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- No response here, so I'm restoring it for now. Popcornfud (talk) 19:50, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Popcornfud, I see no real reason to include that information. It was an unsuccessful collaboration; they worked on some songs and none were included on her albums. It does not really seem significant or notable in the scope of her life and career. If every single collaborator she has ever worked with was to be mentioned in this article, it would probably double in length. Melonkelon (talk) 20:48, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
- I don't feel strongly about it, so if the consensus is not to include it, I can live with that. Popcornfud (talk) 21:30, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
