We should include his connections to the formal Korean left

Bong Joon-ho has been affiliated officially with several progressive and socialist parties in the Republic of Korea. Given that political themes are often attributed to his movies, this seems like relevant information to include. WP:NCKOREAN states: Koreans variously spell two-syllable given names as a joined word or separated by a hyphen or a space, with the second syllable occasionally capitalized. If there is no personal preference, and no established English spelling, hyphenate the syllables, with only the first syllable capitalized (e.g., Hong Gil-dong). Media sources seem to be mixed, and I don't know if there's a personal preference. BegbertBiggs (talk) 19:15, 13 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If people can decide for us what pronoun they prefer to be called by (and Wikipedia has to follow that preference), shouldn't they be able to have a preference for how their name is spelled? Many Japanese and Korean people prefer to use their family name last and Wikipedia (generally) follows that. Whitey1138 (talk) 03:52, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
- I am against the personal preference approach. Should some Wikipedian call around and ask subjects what hyphens, pronouns, and name order they like? That's not our responsibility, and it's just asking for trouble. What if someone sends us a message that says they want the middle letter of their family name capitalized, or something ridiculous like that? Oppose. He may not be sensitive to this hyphen/space issue. Unless he expresses disapproval of the form with a hyphen ("Joon-ho") and states that the form with a space ("Joon Ho") must be used, stick to the form with a hyphen, as it complies with Wikipedia's relevant style guide (see the above comment by BegbertBiggs). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.116.174.137 (talk) 06:24, 15 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose. Looking at reliable sources, they seem fairly split on whether they hyphenate or not. That being the case, with no predominant style, we go with our house style, which is to hyphenate per the above points. His own preference only matters if it's actively and reliably sourced the he explicitly prefers that style, not just gleaned from looking at Twitter or whatever. — Amakuru (talk) 20:31, 19 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Animated film

Have people heard anything regarding this supposed upcoming animated film? It’s listed in the filmography section (with attached film studios) - Are we sure this is moving forward? It could have hit snags, perhaps why he focused on Mickey 17. I remember news of this a couple years ago, and nothing since.
