Claim of origin
[edit]This article says Mr. Kaufmann "claimed to be the son of a German-Jewish father and a Roman Catholic Black mother". Why is the signifier "claimed" added? is there any reason to believe this is not true? any dispute? Short of a DNA test or a certificate of ancestry, I would guess all one can do is to "claim" ones origin, and I don't see it required for other biographies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.96.5.202 (talk) 17:44, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

Not on Johnny Carson show
[edit]Bob Kaufman was not on the Johnny Carson show several times in 1970-71? That’s simply not true, it’s Andy Kaufman they have him confused with. It’s something I only noticed on Wiki about a week ago, and it is also on the IMDB (footnote 8 of this article). Sent by Raymond Foye, co-editor of the Collected Poems of Bob Kaufman. - According to this NY Times article, he did appear on Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show” several times in 1970 and 1971. The NY Times is pretty good about fact-checking (certainly better than Wikipedia) Chisme (talk) 22:22, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
Errors and Contradictions
[edit]It's highly unlikely Kaufman met William Burroughs at the New School for Social Research in the 1940s. I'd like to see a source for that.
Also there are some internal contradictions in this, like saying he moved to SF in 1958 "and remained there for most of the rest of his life" then later in the piece talking about his being in NY in the 1960s. I don't know the facts enough to correct but it's confusing to read. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KMOuisch (talk • contribs) 00:17, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
- If there is unsourced content, find a source or remove the text. If there are sources that contradict the text, then the text needs to be changed to match the references. For example, if we have a source that says he's in SF in '58 but in NY in the '60s, then the "remained there" bit needs to be removed. Primefac (talk) 00:24, 22 October 2020 (UTC)
