location
[edit]The first paragraph states they are based in Austin. This is untrue. Big Commerce is an Australian based company with a small office located in Austin. They also state their servers are located within the U.S -- but their servers are outsourced to a US company. They don't have their servers in-house. Cited here: [1]
- Although Bigcommerce was originally founded and headquartered in Australia, they now considers Austin their headquarters. [2] Simons1321 (talk) 00:27, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

- The provided link is a quantitative research article comparing the pricing strategies of ecommerce providers. It does not endorse any specific company, but rather compares ecommerce providers based on criteria that is important to online sellers. The study would seem to be extremely relevant under a headline that discusses Bigcommerce in the context of pricing. Dylortega (talk) 03:12, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Wikipedians,
Bigcommerce has updated their brand and now goes by BigCommerce (with a capital C). Is it possible to have this page updated to reflect the new brand? We also have a new logo as well and we were hoping that it could be added to this page like it appears on other company pages. I have attached a .svg file with the logo if there is interest in adding it to the page. We also have a page on our site that explains our new brand that may be beneficial to the page. That page can be found here: http://grow.bigcommerce.com/new-bigcommerce-brand.html

Pricing
[edit]The following Wikipedia contributor has declared a personal or professional connection to the subject of this article. Relevant policies and guidelines may include conflict of interest, autobiography, and neutral point of view.

Hi Wikipedians,
The section on pricing ("Finally, Bigcommerce offers a custom enterprise-level plan. Many small companies are being forced to upgrade from the high-tier (Pro-Plan) to the Enterprise-Plan. Companies forced to upgrade to the Enterprise Plan will see their monthly payment increase from $79.95 USD/mo to a whopping $539.95 USD/mo.") seems to be very subjective. The new pricing plans that were rolled out are based off of usage of the platform (how many products they sell per month), so each customer's account could increase by different amounts, depending on how many products or GMV (gross merchant value) they process through the platform. There are some customers whose pricing did increase significantly, but the majority of our customers saw far, far lower increases in their monthly pricing. Would it be possible to edit this section so that it accurately reflects the changing in pricing? For more information please visit these pages: https://www.bigcommerce.com/pricing/ and https://www.bigcommerce.com/pricing/faq/.
It also looks like the citations that appear with this section do not validate the statement "Companies forced to upgrade to the Enterprise Plan will see their monthly payment increase from $79.95 USD/mo to a whopping $539.95 USD/mo." If statements like these are allowed on wikipedia pages, should they be cited or referenced to add validity?
Thanks Simons1321 (talk) 22:25, 1 April 2016 (UTC)
Request Edits March 2021
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
I have some changes I’d like to propose to help improve the BigCommerce article. As an employee of BigCommerce, I can’t make these changes myself due to WP:COI. I’d love it if an independent Wikipedia editor could take a look! Thanks for your consideration.
1. In the infobox, please replace: revenue = $112.9 Million(2019)[1]
WITH:
revenue = $112.1 Million (2019)[2]
- Explanation: Replaces Forbes contributor source with TechCrunch article. Corrects revenue amount.
- Done - This seemed like a sensible fix. - Dyork (talk) 00:31, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
2. In the lead, please replace the first paragraph that reads: “ BigCommerce is a public technology company and provides a SaaS ecommerce platform. The company was founded in 2009 and has 600+ employees with headquarters in Austin, Texas.[3][4] Its features include customer groups and segmentation, search engine optimization (SEO), web hosting, and more.[5]”
WITH:
BigCommerce is a NASDAQ-listed ecommerce platform that provides software as a service services to retailers.[2] The company’s platform includes online store creation, search engine optimization, hosting, and marketing and security for small and medium-sized businesses.[6][7]
- Explanation: Rewrites lead for improved sentence structure, and to include specific details about the nature of BigCommerce’s business. Replaces unreliable sources and dead links with reliable sources including Forbes staff article and VentureBeat. HQ already in Infobox.
- This is done. Heartmusic678 (talk) 19:25, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
3. In the History section, please replace the first paragraph that reads: “BigCommerce was founded in 2009 by Australians Eddie Machaalani and Mitchell Harper following a chance meeting in an online chatroom in 2003.[8][9] In August 2009, the two relaunched a hosted version of Interspire Shopping Cart called “BigCommerce”[10] and opened its first U.S. office.”
WITH:
BigCommerce was founded in Sydney, Australia in 2009 by Australians Eddie Machaalani and Mitchell Harper, who met in an online chatroom in 2003.[11] One year after meeting, Machaalani and Harper launched their first company, Interspire, which evolved into BigCommerce.[11] The company opened its first United States office in Austin, Texas in 2009.[12]
- Explanation: Rewrites for clarity. Adds historical background about the company origins. Removes unsupported sentences and unreliable sources (blogs and primary source), and replaces them with reliable secondary sources like Mashable and The New York Times.
4. In the History section, please replace the second paragraph: “BigCommerce was 100% bootstrapped[13] until July 31, 2011, when it closed $15 million in Series A funding from General Catalyst Partners.[14]”
WITH:
The company raised $15 million in Series A funding from General Catalyst Partners in July 2011.[15]
- Explanation: Bootstrap Source is just a blog.
5. In the History section, please add:
In 2014, the company expanded its presence on the west coast, opening a San Francisco office and hiring personnel from PayPal and Amazon.[16] In 2015, BigCommerce acquired Zing, a checkout and inventory software startup.[17]
Brent Bellm, the former HomeAway COO who led HomeAway through its IPO, replaced Machaalani and Harper as CEO in 2015.[18]
BigCommerce partnered with Amazon in 2016 to provide its retailers with the capability to sync inventory across both channels.[19]
In 2019, the company opened its ecommerce platforms to legally-operating U.S.-based CBD and hemp merchants.[20]
- Explanation: Adds relevant acquisition and leadership events in the company’s history, plus supporting reliable sources.
6. In the History section, at the end of the last paragraph: “In July 2020, BigCommerce filed for IPO.[21][22]”
PLEASE ADD:
The company went public August 5, 2020.[23]. [24]
- Half done - I agree with the value of adding the text and including a source about the IPO. I don't see that the second link about Intuit is necessary, as that was an offer but not something that transpired. - Dyork (talk) 00:31, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
- Explanation: Updates article with date of IPO, valuation and buyout bid from Intuit, and supporting reliable source.
7. Please remove “See Also” section.
- Explanation: Section is not relevant to the article.
- Done - Agree that there is no reason to include this. - Dyork (talk) 00:31, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
8. Please add a Services section under History.
- Explanation:Following a widely used format where products and services are too nuanced to be explained within the History section. See for example the WP: Good Articles, (which are encouraged as models) Wink_(platform) and Playtex. Or big tech companies such as Oracle Corporation or Amazon (company).
9. In the new Services section, please add:
BigCommerce provides software to businesses that helps them set up and manage online and mobile stores, handle payments and currency conversions.[25][26]
As of June 2020, BigCommerce served 60,000 online stores in 120 countries.[27]
- Explanation: Structures article to include Services section, following Wikipedia standards for articles about companies that provides services and goods, such as Wink_(platform) and Playtex.
Thanks for your help.QuesoFan9639 (talk) 16:38, 23 March 2021 (UTC)

7. In the History section, please remove current History content and replace
WITH:
BigCommerce was founded in Sydney, Australia in 2009 by Australians Eddie Machaalani and Mitchell Harper, who met in an online developer chatroom in 2003. One year after meeting, Machaalani and Harper launched their first company, Interspire, which evolved into BigCommerce.[4]
The company went public in August 2020 with an initial price of $24 per share, and peaked at $93.99—a surge of 292%—before closing at $72.27 on its opening day.[5]
Prior to its IPO, BigCommerce raised more than $200 million in funding from investors including Goldman Sachs, General Catalyst Partners, GGV, SoftBank Capital, Revolution Growth, Telstra Ventures, American Express and others. [6]
Brent Bellm, the former HomeAway President and COO who led HomeAway through its IPO, replaced Machaalani and Harper as CEO in 2015. Under Bellm, BigCommerce expanded its target market beyond small and mid-sized merchants to enterprise-level businesses. [7]
After launching in Sydney, the company opened its first United States office in Austin, Texas in 2009 and moved its headquarters there in 2011[8]. It now has offices in Austin, Kyiv, London, San Francisco and Sydney[9]. BigCommerce is expanding internationally and recently entered markets in Germany, Spain, Mexico [10], France, Italy, the Netherlands [11], Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Austria and Peru [12].
- Explanation: Replaces outdated, minor and irrelevant company history to improve clarity, update information and provide greater context about the company’s latest developments.
8. In the History section, please add:
In July 2021, BigCommerce acquired Feedonomics, a leading solution for product feed optimization and syndication to 100+ leading advertising, search, social network, and marketplace channels around the world, providing merchants with industry-leading omnichannel capabilities. [13]
In February 2022, BigCommerce announced the acquisition of NinjaB2B, a premier enterprise software solution providing leading business-to-business (B2B) ecommerce capabilities for merchants of all sizes.[14]
In April 2022, the company announced the acquisition of BundleB2B, a longtime BigCommerce technology partner that provides next-level B2B functionality for BigCommerce merchants and is a key piece of BigCommerce’s B2B Edition solution.[15]
- Explanation: Updates company history to include all acquisitions since becoming a public company.
9. In the Services section, please replace: BigCommerce provides software to businesses that helps them set up and manage online and mobile stores, handle payments and currency conversions. As of June 2020, BigCommerce served 60,000 online stores in 120 countries.
WITH:
BigCommerce provides a comprehensive platform for launching and scaling an ecommerce operation, including store design, catalog management, hosting, checkout, order management, reporting and pre-integrations into best of breed third-party services like payments, shipping and fulfillment, point of sale, marketing, accounting and omnichannel. As of August 2022, BigCommerce serves tens of thousands of merchants in over 150 countries.[16] BigComm78726 (talk) 21:24, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
- I made the requested infobox updates. I did not make the other changes, because they were requests to replace what is in the article with promotional wording, and we do not host that sort of thing in Wikipedia articles. - MrOllie (talk) 22:05, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for making those changes to the infobox. I have edited the other sections to remove any promotional language and stick to facts. All have third-party reliable sources. Would you mind taking another look at those now?
- Also, it looks like the change to the Product (No. 6) in the infobox was missed if you could add that one too please.
- Thank you! BigComm78726 (talk) 14:06, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
- I reverted the changes you made to your text above - please do not change stuff after it has been responded to - always submit a new request for new changes. Even after the reviewing the changes, though, I still decline to overwrite those sections with your preferred versions. I also decline to replace the product line of the info box. Clear language is preferable to industry buzzwords. MrOllie (talk) 14:24, 29 August 2022 (UTC)

- I'm connected to all major e-commerce platforms through my work, making me one of the most reliable sources on the Internet to update Wikipedia articles in the space. I added 5 significant Big commerce milestones that have happened since 2020. Ending the history of an e-commerce platform at pre-covid times is missing out on a lifetime of milestones. I more than doubled the history section on this company. Pauldrecksler (talk) 13:44, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
