Question
[edit]Are Beverley Bar and Beverley North Bar (North Bar) the same thing? Remember that North Bar is bar in Leeds. Peter Horn User talk 23:55, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
- As far as I know they are the same. Keith D (talk) 00:44, 14 May 2013 (UTC)
Beverley North Bar is the most complete brick-built town gateway (or Bar) in England. It is known in Beverley as North Bar, though the other three or four bars have entirely disappeared. It is not related to any other bar or North Bar elsewhere in Britain, though Beverley Bar in Hull nearby remains as an excavation and was the site of Charles 1 being denied entry to the city/fortress, and so the start of the English Civil War.
