General Background of the balafon
[edit]They refer to the Balafon in the Marimba article without naming it. They just talk in extenso about the Latin American equivalent, and not about this West African instrument. Just thought that should be corrected Themalau 14:14, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
This article has been marked as a stub and as one in need of clean-up/citations. Modern players who are probably not generally recognized as famous should not add themselves to the list of famous players; feel free to start a balafon players page and link to it. Citations for the claims that only men can play balafon and that "permission" is required to play balafon would improve this article greatly. jp2 21:30, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
Finishing rewrite
[edit]Rewrote and expanded this today. Needs a check for grammar and spelling, more famous players added, and I'm sure other things.T L Miles 21:29, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Missing external link
[edit]I know very little about the balafon (well, a little more as a few minutes back :-) and I'd rather not edit the page. I guess the next link went offline some time ago...

- If a link has since broken in a reference, it should be marked as such, but not removed (neither the original url or the title). If it is just under the "external links" header, which are not used to support the accuracy of the article, it can just be removed. T L Miles (talk) 00:21, 28 June 2009 (UTC)
Keyboard percussion
[edit]This article is currently [1] in Category:Keyboard percussion, but doesn't seem to fit the definition currently [2] given in the keyboard percussion instrument article. Which is correct? Andrewa (talk) 00:18, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
External links modified
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just added archive links to one external link on Balafon. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}}
after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:
- Added archive https://web.archive.org/20070422093415/http://www.virtualmuseum.ca:80/Exhibitions/Instruments/Anglais/dpbf_j_txt03a_en.html to http://www.virtualmuseum.ca/Exhibitions/Instruments/Anglais/dpbf_j_txt03a_en.html

Musicians in infobox
[edit]The article lists at least 13 musicians who are sufficiently notable to have their own Wikipedia article. Which should appear in the infobox? Currently there's only N'Faly Kouyate and his notable instrument is given as the kora?! Martinevans123 (talk) 18:28, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
- We have {{Category:Balafonists}} - which looks seriously underpopulated at present. Should the infobox simply link to that (expanded) list? Ghmyrtle (talk) 20:23, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
- Is that allowed? Martinevans123 (talk) 20:27, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
- I think, nobody should appear in the infobox – this is bound to be a highly subjective list, and it should better be removed from the template altogether. No such user (talk) 08:02, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
- Good idea. Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:57, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
- Now removed. Ghmyrtle (talk) 19:17, 21 September 2017 (UTC)
