Updated map of Aira, Kagoshima (city)
[edit]Can someone put the updated map version of Aira, Kagoshima (city) in the English Wikipedia? Here's the one from its Japanese counterpart: [1] jlog3000 (talk) 15:50, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Aira, Kagoshima (Aira) → Aira, Kagoshima – Aira, Kagoshima is redirect page for this page Gonta-Kun (talk) 13:32, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- Comment: Aira, Kagoshima is no longer a redirect; it has been converted to/restored as a disambiguation page. Steel1943 (talk) 18:38, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- Follow-up comment: ...And now, Aira, Kagoshima is a redirect again, but it doesn't target this page; the redirect now targets Aira (disambiguation). Steel1943 (talk) 21:08, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- Comment. I hadn't noticed this discussion before updating Aira, Kagoshima as an incomplete disambiguation duplicating content at Aira (disambiguation). It seems unusual compared to other countries to have both parenthetical and comma disambiguators. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Japan-related articles#Place names does not specifically address how to disambiguate multiple place names within the same prefecture. For most other countries on English Wikipedia, it is more typical to either use only the lowest level of encompassing administrative district needed for disambiguation -- or to combine with the next highest level. For example, Aira, Kagoshima (Kimotsuki) would likely be either Aira, Kimotsuki or Aira, Kimotsuki, Kagoshima. older ≠ wiser 19:53, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Bkonrad: Good find there. On a related note, when I was performing those edits, I found that the title "Aira, Kagoshima (town)" is probably ambiguous since "Aira, Kagoshima (Kimotsuki)" was also a town, apparently. However, I am in the same situation as you, it seems, as I'm not sure where to move Aira, Kagoshima (town) since the only option I see that would be plausible, "Aira, Kagoshima (Aria)", is currently occupied by this article (which makes sense). I'm not aware of any precedence to further disambiguate titles such as this. Steel1943 (talk) 21:03, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- Also, I'm inclined to think that the former town of Aira that became part of the city of Aira a should likely just redirect to the city article, or perhaps to a history section in that article. I see little benefit for English readers to have this confusing maze of tiny little stubs. older ≠ wiser 21:45, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Support move. As the only extant municipality with this name, the city should be at Aira, Kagoshima. At first I was going to agree with Bkonrad that the article on the former town of Aira should be merged into the article on the city. But after reading the history of the merger which created the city (described here ja:姶良市#姶良市の成立), the name of the city was not chosen as a continuation of the town, but to represent the district and nearby Aira Caldera. So although it may seem unnecessary, the town and city should have separate articles as they are separate entities. Although it appears confusing at first, if we get the article naming and disambiguation page in order, then that confusion should be reduced. I support/propose the following moves:
- Aira, Kagoshima (Aira) → Aira, Kagoshima
- Aira, Kagoshima (town) → Aira, Kagoshima (Aira District)
- Aira, Kagoshima (Kimotsuki) → Aira, Kagoshima (Kimotsuki District)
A hatnote at the top of the city's page can point to Aira (disambiguation), which lists the former entities. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 01:49, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
- @Athomeinkobe: The major issue I see with those proposed moves disambiguation-wise is that the subjects currently at Aira, Kagoshima (Aira) and Aira, Kagoshima (town) are both in Aira District, making the disambiguator "(Aira District)" ambiguous. Steel1943 (talk) 03:15, 5 November 2016 (UTC)
- Steel1943, once a town gains city status, it is considered to no longer belong to a district. That is why the city does not require a disambiguating bracket. This is illustrated by the navbar at the bottom of the article. A hatnote at the top of the city's article can say "this is about the city. For the former town, see... - Support the moves suggested by Athomeinkobe. That seems like the most sensible way of distinguishing these articles.--Cúchullain t/c 17:59, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
