The way the game is "intended" to be played is a pretty subjective statement. The supermod includes a whole bunch of aesthetic changes to the game that is unnecessary, and frankly, in poor taste. For example, Beatrice's hair in the game is changed from a fairly dark shade of red to an almost neon yellow, despite the fact that all the portraits of her in the game have her as a redhead. The portraits themselves have also been changed for no discernable reason, and there doesn't appear to be a way to change them back without doing a complete reinstall.

The mod also adds some gameplay changes that aren't terribly balanced and creates several problems of their own. For example, your ship now magically teleports into the harbor wheneever you sneak into a town. Presumably this is so people don't just sneak in and out without ever coming into range of the fort. However, this makes completing missions in hostile towns if not overly difficult, then at least very time-consuming as it takes a very long time to sail out of the harbor in order to exit to the world map. It's also not terribly realistic (why wouldn't the fort just fire while you were docked?)

Based on these concerns, I don't think the mod should be given a blanket recommendation by this article. Regardless of whether or not it is a good overall mod, it should not be labeled as an upgrade or a substitute for the official patches until a modular version that allows players to choose which changes to be included in the game is released. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.69.75.87 (talk) 19:26, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sea Dogs?

[edit]

I doubt this really has a place here, but... this game is terrible - I don't mean the bugs etc., I'm refering to it's realation to Sea Dogs. How could they let such a good game die like this? I would have thought they had learnt this lesson from the so called 'Pirates of the Carribean' sequal, but no, they've just gone and released another buggy, silly and just plain under developed game that has just lost my faith in modern games. This series definetly is'nt the only example (take a look at the new 'Driver' or Red Alert games). Sure the classics had choppy graphics, but what happend to the interesting and well writen stories or the uniqueness of each game? Today it just seems like game designers have run out of ideas and are just sucking the life out of 'the good old games' to impress this new generation of graphics whore gamers. 90.210.53.170 (talk) 14:49, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Digital re-release and re-brand

[edit]

The game's been digitally released at GOG.com under the name "Sea Dogs: Caribbean Tales". This might be worth mentioning in the article, particularly since the game is now known under a different title. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jacobg830 (talkcontribs) 12:55, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
