Error when updating infobox with candidates

I keep receiving a "Fatal exception of type "Wikimedia\Rdbms\DBQueryError" error whenever I try updating the infobox with candidates. I could only fill 2 of them, so apologies that other candidates have been left out -- not intentional. Will update when issue is resolved. SalvadoranSoldier (talk) 16:20, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

I added the "current election" template for tomorrow's caucuses

Template:

The elections begin tomorrow, but final preparations are already ongoing and this is for convenience. JohnAdams1800 (talk) 03:55, 15 January 2024 (UTC)

‎Is there a need to add Vivek Ramaswamy's reason for dropping out?

He suspended his presidential campaign, and NBC News reported that he dropped out after a disappointing showing. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2024-election/vivek-ramaswamy-dropping-2024-presidential-race-rcna133875 Daniel (talk) 04:55, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

No. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 04:56, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Can we put Ryan Binkley in the infobox?

He's out performing Christie and Hutchinson - who both are up there. 2601:152:4F80:6F30:14E2:92CB:9839:5BB0 (talk) 02:36, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Neither should be in the infobox. Let's keep it to candidates recieving more than 5%. Esolo5002 (talk) 03:41, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
5% is too high, Republican candidates got 1.8% and received delegates in 2016. Although since Binkley nor Hutchinson will reach this they both shouldn't be on the infobox TheFellaVB (talk) 03:51, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Any objection to a 1% margin? Which neither of the three reached? Esolo5002 (talk) 03:53, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
I don't think we need to decide on any kind of rule for who gets on the infobox, if future states yield interesting results then we can have a discussion on the issue but for now let's just keep it to be the main four TheFellaVB (talk) 04:03, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
I somewhat disagree. As for other states I'm not sure but I think any candidates that receive delegates from Iowa should go in this infobox. Brooklaika (talk) 05:22, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

“Other”

Other simply means David Stuckenberg, right? Shouldn’t he just be listed as his own candidate? MoMoChohan (talk) 14:30, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Weather

Is mentioning about the event happening during the cold wave helpful? Cwater1 (talk) 18:00, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

The Hill does mention that the cold weather likely reduced turnout. [1]. It'd be a useful addition. David O. Johnson (talk) 21:48, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Inclusion of Ramaswamy

@TheFellaVB, Scribetastic, and FellowMellow: Ramaswamy has now suspended his campaign. Given that The New York Times is only showing Trump, DeSantis, and Haley on their front page and on the caucus page, it may be worth considering removing Ramaswamy. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 04:31, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

It doesn’t make sense because he has 2 delegates, I would place it as (withdrawn) instead of complete removal. Then remove the (withdrawn) when the nominee is chosen. FellowMellow (talk) 04:33, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Hard disagree, he obtained nearly 8% and a delegate, candidates have been included on Iowa caucus pages for less. TheFellaVB (talk) 04:34, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Bill Weld on the 2020 GOP primary only won 1 delegate and has 2.35%. He’s on the page. I think Vivek should stay. FellowMellow (talk) 04:39, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Ramaswamy secured multiple delegates and garnered over 5% of the vote, he should stay. The "dropped out" should also be removed from under his name because he was still in the race when voters cast their first ballots. If it must be included that he dropped out in the infobox, please switch "dropped out" to "withdrawn." 71.60.164.177 (talk) 04:34, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Arguments by existence should not be made. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 04:44, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Personally I think him withdrawing should not be included on the infobox even while the primary is ongoing, it should be mentioned in the header though TheFellaVB (talk) 04:37, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Also (withdrawn) is included on infoboxes when the candidate suspended their campaign prior to the contest so having him with the tag implies he wasn't an active candidate prior to the caucus TheFellaVB (talk) 04:39, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
That’s not accurate. I propose for (Withdrawn) to be temporary until a nominee is chosen. FellowMellow (talk) 04:40, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Take a look at the 2020 democratic primary where Bernie Sanders was listed on the infobox as a withdrawn candidate. TheFellaVB (talk) 04:42, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Nominee was already chosen, so there is no point to still have withdrawn. It’s suitable for now for Vivek, as the primaries are ongoing. FellowMellow (talk) 04:45, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Even using your argument there Amy Klobuchar was listed as (withdrawn) on the 2020 Minnesota Democratic presidential primary page which was before Biden was selected as the nominee. TheFellaVB (talk) 04:48, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
I believe I have a compromise with an extended footnote. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 04:44, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
I can accept the footnote TheFellaVB (talk) 04:46, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
I would get behind that. FellowMellow (talk) 04:46, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Should also be a footnote in the results template. (Withdrawn) implies withdrew prior to the election Crazysportsdude1 (talk) 04:59, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
That is because they only show the top three contenders. You can click "View All Candidates" and see him easily. Also, we are not beholden to the choices of the NYT. Brooklaika (talk) 05:08, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
I'm aware of how the website works. The omission of Ramaswamy suggested to me that his performance is relatively unimportant. elijahpepe@wikipedia (he/him) 05:10, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
We should include any delegate-winners in infoboxes, even if they drop out. It's a logical inclusion criteria. Elli (talk | contribs) 05:56, 16 January 2024 (UTC)

Any delegate or contest won is enough to stay on the board, I should think. Javert2113 (Siarad.|¤) 00:52, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
