Welcome to the AVAT!
[edit]Hello! I wanted to personally thank you for volunteering for the WikiProject Appalachia Administrative Team. The path to a successful WikiProject is an uphill one that doesn't seem to get much easier overtime and your contributions to the continuance of that will be and are necessary.
As Peer Review Department manager, you have the task of, well, peer reviewing. I believe there are ample resources as to how Wikipedia expects this to be carried out, but I am also aware of the time necessary for this endeavor. Today I will be creating the page for your department and adding some basic organization; feel free to expand or add sections, formalize processes, and carry out your task as you see fit (within reason, of course).
As far as I know, your greatest task will be one of participation; one must be both committed and patient in order to be an ideal volunteer.
Good luck to you; if you have any questions, concerns, or thoughts don't hesitate to reach out to me! Dionysius Millertalk 14:13, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
Quantity of references
[edit]One comment on your (excellent) GA candidate. It says:
- Dominated by evergreen spruce and fir forests at higher elevations and deciduous cove forests at lower elevations, the ecosystem contains thousands of plant species, including epiphytes, orchids, and numerous mosses and ferns.[12][13][14][15]
For one averagely long sentence, four references. I think you'll find that reviewers (and readers) dislike being confronted with more than two references for what appears to be a single morsel of information. Now, it's imaginable that only source W says "thousands", only source X uses the term epiphytes, and something analogous for sources Y and Z. If so, better to recast the sentence, so that for example its first half is backed up with X and Z, the second with W and Y. And if there'd be no loss if one of the references were simply deleted, then delete it.
All the best with it! -- Hoary (talk) 08:35, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! I will definitely look back through the article and edit the lead with this in mind. I'm pretty sure I just got carried away with summarizing and ended up weaving lots of sources together for not-so-many words.
- Also, as someone who has ~very slightly~ more experience than me are there any other suggestions you have? Brooklaika (talk) 10:27, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
Peer Review Department specifics
[edit]The other day I set up the review process in a way that makes sense to me and made a very quick and not too concise guide to it. If you want to change anything absolutely do it and if you need my input in anything let me know. I have the categorization set well enough, but I'm not sure how best to display articles on the main page or if there's even a way to do that automatically instead of by hand.
