Image of venue?
[edit]The image posted doesn't look anything like the venue? Please Google ICC Wales. HurricaneHiggins (talk) 13:50, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- The International Convention Centre Wales is within the Celtic Manor Resort, which is what the image is of. I am there tomorrow, so I was going to get some images. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 13:56, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- Great — hope you enjoy, and will look forward to seeing the images! HurricaneHiggins (talk) 14:05, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- No issues. I am very much hoping we can get some decent images - it's a bit gloomy always using images from DerHexer from 2015! I did get some for the Masters earlier this year, but weren't quite as good as I'd hoped.
- Good work with the summary updates. As I'm actually getting to this one, it's going to be a bit higher on my priority list to get up to standard. It's a bit odd we don't have any free images of the ICC, so this will have to do, unless I can get a decent one tomorrow. Have a great day. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 14:10, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, good luck capturing the images! Maybe you can get some updated shots of the players as well. And thank you — let me know if you have any thoughts on what the article needs. Have a great day too! HurricaneHiggins (talk) 16:12, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- I hope I can! Not sure how convenient it will be, nor who's going to be playing, but we'll see. Article probably just needs some fine tuning, but can be done when it's over. It'll need some images, but see what I can muscle together. If not, we can do it after the event is over. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:26, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- Excellent -- sounds like a plan. Enjoy your time there tomorrow. I'm envious! HurricaneHiggins (talk) 16:37, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- Just got back to the hotel from the venue. Really good day out (very long mind). The images I got will go on commons, but there wasn't really much of an opportunity to get a decent image of the players. However, I did get a few of the ICC and how the venue looked, which I'll get up and active as soon as I get time. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 23:34, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- So glad you had a good day! Delighted you got some of the ICC and the venue -- will look forward to seeing those. Some exciting quarter-final matches yesterday so delighted you got to be there for the occasion. HurricaneHiggins (talk) 11:00, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

- indeed. The venue is a good shot, I did get a couple. I don't know if you go to live events, but I'd recommend it. Newport is only about an hour and a half drive from me, so worked out good. Tickets were £35 all in for me and the wife for all day. Vafaei and Lisowski were the guys I wanted to see and they didn't disappoint. I'm going to put out another plea for images on Reddit again (I do every six months or so, sometimes get some images), and email WST to see if they might agree this time! Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:24, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
- I've gone to a few live events but have not had the opportunity in some time. That's a very reasonable price for two people all day long! Glad you saw Vafaei and Lisowski -- two exciting comebacks in those matches. I'd hope Reddit or WST would yield some images. Maybe even contacting players directly over Twitter would help? One would think they would be happy for the publicity. HurricaneHiggins (talk) 12:44, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

Copyvio check: Some overlap of common phrases with sources. Mostly OK but I think the following could be reworked: "breaks of 86 and 53 to move within a frame of victory"; final-frame decider at the Welsh Open, more than any other player in the history of the event."; "missed a red with the rest"
- Looks to be pending a response. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 12:01, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- I changed the first, but the other two seem like a WP:LIMITED thing to me. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:52, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
General comments and sources
- There are a few duplicate links: snooker, 2022 Turkish Masters, James Cahill.
- snooker (in the sense of not leave a clear shot to the objet ball) is still duplicate-linked. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 12:01, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

- I amended some hyphens to dashes, and did a little general formatting, with the help of scripts.
- I amended a couple of refs.
- Some refs are out of order, e.g. [65][66][63]; [10][6] - to be reviewed after other amendments.
- Shouldn't flagathlete be used at the first mention of each player in the draw? I know they are used in qualifying results, which were chronologically first, but these aren't first in the article.
- Fixed Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- No harm in adding "Numbers in brackets denote seeded players" in the qualifying section, I think.
- Done Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- The qualifying results look messy to me. I prefer boxes, but not sure if this is a manual of style issue or something that there is a consensus around; might be fine as it is.
- I don't think it's been discussed. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- OK as is, in that case. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 12:01, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- I don't think it's been discussed. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

- "Selby & Zhao knocked out of Welsh Open" - mising publication date and author.
- Done Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- "Jordan Brown beats Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final frame to win 2021 Welsh Open" - missing author
- added Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- "Champion Brown loses in first round" - title differs from source, missing publication date. (Which can be worked out from archive date, or got from the live version of the page)
- Done Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- "Welsh Open 2022 snooker final LIVE – Joe Perry stuns Judd Trump to become second oldest ranking winner of all time" - missing author. Title of the page is different, probably changed since it was accessed.
- I checked three Eurosport refs and all were missing authors.
- I looked at ref 22 and author has not been added, so this probably applies to others too. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 12:01, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- I shall have a look through them. Should be no big deal. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 12:55, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

- I'm happy with the term "straightforward pot", "easy black" and "lax safety shot" etc. in context here, but guess they might raise questions if this went to FAC.
Format
- "The Welsh Open began as a ranking tournament in 1992.[1] The 2022 tournament took place" is a bit of a jump.
- added some details. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- "All matches were the best of seven frames..." - as the 2021 tournament has just been mentioned, maybe something like "For the 2022 edition, all matches were the best of seven frames..."
- Done Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- "will receive a bonus" - suggest rewording this so no-one has to remember to come back and change it later
- Reworded Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
Early rounds
- "The held-over qualifying matches" - I think "held-over" needs a bit of explanation here and in the lead.
- added to body. I don't think it needs a massive note in lede. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- "O'Sullivan's involvement in the European Masters final on 27 February.[14] O'Sullivan won the match 4–0" - Could be clearer that it was at the Welsh Open he won 4–0, not in the European Masters final.
- sure. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- Is there a suitable wikilink target for "tour card"?
- Reworded. I dislike "Tour Card" for this reason. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- "but made history as the first woman" - I was excited, but "made history" might be overegging it a bit.
- agreed Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
- It's still in the lead. BennyOnTheLoose (talk) 12:01, 1 June 2022 (UTC)

- Could cuegloss "yellow". Don't we normally add "ball" after the colour?
- Indeed Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
Last 16
- Could wikilink "century break" at the first instance.
- Could cuegloss "pink" and "red"
- "no Welsh player advanced beyond the round of 16" - the sort of detail that news outlets and Snooker Scene love. Do we need it here, even if it is the Welsh Open?
- I think it's fine. Done the wikilinks Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
Quarter-finals
- "Robertson required foul shots" - reword to show he needed his oppopnent to foul.
- Done Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 10:27, 1 June 2022 (UTC)
Final
- Could cuegloss "baulk".
- Could cuegloss "blue".
- "It was Perry's first ranking title win in the United Kingdom, since he had won his previous ranking title in Thailand" - any context to add about why this is worth commenting on? (If not, it's fine.)

"held-over" linked but not explained
[edit]There is a link to "held-over" in the lede but I can't find an explanation of the term in the linked article. I see an explanation in the summary section but as someone unfamiliar with snooker, it would be nice to see an explanation in the lede or properly linked in the lede. -Eóin (talk) 01:51, 18 November 2022 (UTC)

2022 Welsh Open (snooker) → 2022 Welsh Open – Unnecessary parenthesis disambiguation. Moving to "2022 BetVictor Welsh Open" seems also fine to me. PhotographyEdits (talk) 10:19, 18 November 2022 (UTC) — Relisting. Sceptre (talk) 14:09, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose - there is a Welsh Open (darts) - and the format of (snooker) in titles matches with recent year's articles. 148.64.9.75 (talk) 11:37, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
- As long as there isn't a "[...] (darts)" with the same name, this disambiguation is not needed. PhotographyEdits (talk) 11:41, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
- Support (slightly). I can understand why @PhotographyEdits: thinks that (snooker) should be removed. The other side of the discussion is that in golf there is also a Wales Open, although there is no 2022 Wales Open article. So on balance I agree, although to be consistent with every other Welsh Open snooker article from 1992 Welsh Open (snooker) to date, should also be renamed without the parenthesis. I would not agree with it being renamed "2022 BetVictor Welsh Open", as the other convention is snooker competitions in Wikipedia is not to include the sponsors name, hence, the 2022 Masters (snooker) is not called "2022 Cazoo Masters". I would say Welsh Open (darts) is a very minor sports event (compared with the snooker event or the golf) which is not even organised by the main professional body (Professional Darts Corporation). SethWhales talk 11:59, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
- Comment, generally we'd want to keep these consistent every year. I'd argue that this isn't necessarily the primary topic, considering there is a darts event and also a golf event as a part of the 2022 European Tour. I'd be happy if it's deemed the primary topic, but it'd have to be the same every year. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 16:45, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose it is (snooker) not golf, darts etc. In ictu oculi (talk) 21:57, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose: There are far too many too-narrow article titles on Wikipedia now. All tournament articles without really distinctive names should include a reference to the sport or game being played. --Minturn (talk) 22:26, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
- Support, no other article has the same page name on English Wikipedia so it's PRIMARY.--Ortizesp (talk) 21:50, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- Support since the darts event doesn't have individual year articles, there's nothing this is really ambiguous with. * Pppery * it has begun... 02:12, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose Obviously requires disambiguation as snooker is not the only sport in Wales. Andrew🐉(talk) 11:42, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
- It's worth noting Andrew this isn't about snooker in Wales, it's an international snooker tournament held in Wales. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 14:01, 25 November 2022 (UTC)
