Semi-protect?
[edit]I'm getting quite tired of having to revert edits on this page, particularly edits which put India to the front of lists which should be alphabetical. Should we semi-protect it??? Mmitchell10 (talk) 06:39, 23 April 2019 (UTC)
- It's getting a bit worse now the first Test of the WTC has started. I ask for anyone who edits this page to check just before they make an edit to see if any vandalism has recently happened (example). If the vandalism ramps up, then I'll log it at WP:RFPP. Thanks. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 14:05, 1 August 2019 (UTC)
- Now protected for a few days, which will obviously stop the IP vandalism. It'll expire towards the end of the week, so see what happens then... Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 05:40, 3 August 2019 (UTC)
- Still, now it's just factually wrong (last update to the table just changed the points - but not the NRR - which is pretty stupid, either update it properly or not at all. Also the IND/WIN NRRs are wrong they should be (according to the ICC table) 2.434 and 0.411 (AUS should now be 1.285, ENG 0.778). 58.111.205.160 (talk) 22:01, 8 September 2019 (UTC)
- Well, three days on and the table is still in the format left A simple Human's vandalism 58.111.205.160 (talk) 08:31, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- Do you have a source for that? If we go by the listed source (the ICC) then we'll have to revert back the Australian point total. Their pcnt is also incorrect, as the points contested hasn't been updated either. Cricinfo has a more upto date table, but they don't include the points contested / pcnt fields (which I think are pretty superfluous) and the more useful RpW ratio (given this is used to separate teams). Spike 'em (talk) 16:55, 10 September 2019 (UTC)
- Also, the series drawn and lost columns appear on neither, so should be removed. Spike 'em (talk) 16:58, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

Points from matches
[edit]I'd agree with @Mmitchell10 that the points from each game should be listed as part of the result, as this is directly relevant to the championship (whereas individual player scores / milestones are not). I'd prefer it to be as part of the template rather than as a separate line, but {{Cricket match summary}} does not have anywhere to put this (unless is is added as part of the |result=
text). I'm happy to add an additional |points=
to the template if people think this is a good idea. Another alternative would be to switch to use {{Two-innings cricket match}} but not fill in anything other than the result and the team scores, though I think that would quickly lead to editors trying to fill in the extra details. Spike 'em (talk) 17:16, 14 August 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. I think it's actually probably more important to state the game points in this article rather than in the 2019 Ashes article, for example, as the game points are completely irrelevant to the Ashes, but the whole point of this competition. Where a points system is v simple, such as in the World Cup, stating the points each time is unnecessary, but where the points system is a bit more complicated, the points earned each game seem to be stated, e.g. 2019 County Championship#Results and 2018–19 Premiership Rugby#Fixtures. I would also prefer it to be part of the {{Cricket match summary}} template, rather than a separate line, as it seems like points for Test matches are going to be around for the forseeable future, so we might as well build in the functionality. Would prefer to avoid using {{Two-innings cricket match}} here. Mmitchell10 (talk) 09:58, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
- I'd agree, this is the place to add the points and was also looking at the 2019 County Championship. I've added
|points=
to the template and added an example on the Template docs, so please have a look at that. Not sure on the text size / formatting, but it is a start. Spike 'em (talk) 13:16, 15 August 2019 (UTC)- and added to the first Ashes match here... @Lugnuts: in case you've not seen this conversation. Spike 'em (talk) 17:47, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

At some point we're also going to have to work out how to show penalty points (awarded for slow over rates) in the match summaries - I think it's worth stating both the result points and penalty points rather than just a 'net' figure. Mmitchell10 (talk) 07:58, 17 August 2019 (UTC)
- Maybe play it by ear to see how frequent the penalty points are awarded. How about keeping it in the notes section? So for example, Australia won the first 24 points. Say they were docked a couple for a slow over-rate, reduce down the total on the match scorecard, and add a note, much like when a Test match ends in four days, instead of five. Table column order
[edit]Should the order of results in the table not be "W | D | L" rather than "W | L | D"? The latter seems quite unnatural to someone used to looking at points tables in other sports, esp. football/soccer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Unstudmaddu (talk • contribs) 14:12, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- I agree with you, but unfortunately the world of cricket seems to insist on doing it W|L|D, 2019 Cricket World Cup#Points table for example. Mmitchell10 (talk) 19:23, 27 August 2019 (UTC)
- The page you linked has tables for one day international matches (ODIs), but these are test matches. Draws in test matches are much more common than ties in ODIs, and no-result matches would also count as draws. This is the first multi-nation Test tournament with an actual points table so I think we can set the precedent.--Unstudmaddu (talk) 11:24, 29 August 2019 (UTC)
- Maybe, though leagues for domestic First Class (4-day) matches also use W|L|D, such as 2019 County Championship#Standings and 2018–19 Sheffield Shield season#Points table. Mmitchell10 (talk) 06:27, 30 August 2019 (UTC)
- Rather than squabbling about whether many years of record keeping are right or wrong, how about ordering the teams' positions correctly ?2.126.224.135 (talk) 11:29, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- Which teams are in the wrong position? The table ordering matches the referenced ICC table. Australia's win in the recent 4th Test does not affect it. Spike 'em (talk) 13:43, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
- The table is 1) dated September 10th, which is after the most recent match and 2) showing four Ashes results; Australia should therefore be in 2nd place. 2.126.224.135 (talk) 17:50, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Please follow the sources when making table updates
[edit]In particular, please don't add matches that are not part of the Test Championship (like the just concluded 1st Test between NZ and England). Spike 'em (talk) 14:40, 25 November 2019 (UTC)
League table dispute
[edit]ICC official standings for world test championship and other sources such as cricinfo.com have disputes for Rpw ratio of India, West Indies ,South Africa, and Bangladesh. Table shown here as of now shows Rpw ratio and standings as per cricinfo.com but source is written as ICC official standings. It is needed to be revised as per actual ICC official Standings and in future we need to follow only ICC Official standings and not other sources. Mayankj429 (talk) 14:23, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
For now i have made changes as per ICC official standings. Mayankj429 (talk) 14:31, 15 December 2019 (UTC)
- If we are going to copy a table from elsewhere, then we should ditch the series played, lost and drawn columns as they are in neither the cricinfo or icc table. I find the table poorly laid out with the series and matches running into each other, and would expect to see matches played as the first column. The series won is the first tie-breaker, so should probably be on the end of the table next to rpw ratio.
- I've looked into India's figures and I reckon cricinfo are correct: they have scored a total of 3987 runs, losing 71 wickets and have conceded 2694 runs and taken 139 wickets, for a rpw ratio of 2.897378. This is also assuming cricinfo's scorecards are correct.
I can't see where the icc figure comes from : I've tried taking out 1st and last games, removed run-outs / extras. The ICC figures seem to not count run-outs (or possibly concussion subs) as wickets: if I decrease India's wickets taken by 3 then I get 2.834844. Spike 'em (talk) 12:18, 16 December 2019 (UTC)- And if I decrease the wickets lost by each of SA, WI and Ban from the cricinfo totals then I get the same rpwr as ICC have for each of them. I generally trust cricinfo's figures / tables over ICC ones.Spike 'em (talk) 13:21, 16 December 2019 (UTC)
- My best guess is that the ICC calculations are not dealing correctly with innings where 12 players have batted (due to concussion subs). Each of WI, SA and Ban have had this happen in a match against India. Aus also had a concussion sub against Eng in the Ashes, but both their figures match on the 2 websites. I'm guessing that because the sub happened between Aus innings (and they therefore didn't ever have more than 11 bat in an innings) that the problem does not arise. Given we can choose which source to use, and one is more accurate than the other, then we should use the secondary source. Spike 'em (talk) 15:31, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Sepration of League table and Fixtures?
[edit]League table and Fixtures can be seprated under different sub pages/headings same as in page 2020-22 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League which have nearly same page format, and the above mentioned are seprated there which seems to be more convinient. InfoBox - Matches Played
[edit]Matches Played = 72 Is that correct ? It sounds already 72 matches played in the tournament. ? (or) Total Matches = 72
Just asking
- I think 72 is the number of total matches that were scheduled to be played but due to COVID-19 some of them are bound to be canceled. It would be better to remove this from infobox for now. - Mayankj429 (talk) 16:21, 19 November 2020 (UTC)

2019–21?
[edit]Shouldn't this be at "2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship" per MOS:YEARRANGE? —hueman1 (talk • contributions) 13:29, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
- Nah, I don't think so. Even though it's an especially long one, it's effectively a sports season, which doesn't follow the same rules. – PeeJay 20:06, 29 March 2021 (UTC)
- I would say it should be 2019–2021, as it doesn't meet one the exceptions at MOS:DATERANGE. It might be one sports season, but it's taking place over three years, which mwans it doesn't qualify for the exemption in the MOS for seasons with two consecutive years. Please create a separate page for wtc final
[edit]It's necessary please as this is a tournament page not final match page both are different in meaning and working respectively. Think where we will keep the final match squad, so things like that need to be on a separate final page or the final section will become complex Chinakpradhan (talk) 19:38, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
