This isn't a disaster
[edit]It doesn't meet the definition given in disaster, nor have reliable sources described it as one (as best I can tell). Pretending it is isn't cool, it's original research. Please don't without a solid source. InedibleHulk (talk) 03:37, 5 July 2018 (UTC)
- What? It fits the very definition of a disaster. Alex of Canada (talk) 04:18, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
- Which community was seriously disrupted to the point of needing outside resources? I haven't been everywhere in Quebec, but far enough to know the land is rich in water, shade, wind, patience, cemeteries and asphalt resurfacers. If I'm missing something, it's because it isn't in the article or its sources; add this mystery community, then you might have a case. Right now, it only arguably meets the "over a relatively short time" part, depending on "relative to what?" InedibleHulk (talk) 23:21, 7 July 2018 (UTC)
Merge
[edit]This is the same event as 2018 North American heat wave. There's no need for a separate article for just the parts in Canada. --Masem (t) 04:19, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
- That makes an awful lot of sense to me. HiLo48 (talk) 06:03, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
- I oppose it. This article is larger than the other one, and we would lose information by just merging this into the other article. If it does happen, don't leave out information. Alex of Canada (talk) 23:16, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
Remove deletion template, put up merge template
[edit]Very few people seem to think it should be removed, while many people think it should be merged. Alex of Canada (talk) 20:54, 6 July 2018 (UTC)
- It's really just a name. Many articles up for deletion are kept or merged instead, depending on consensus. The commenters at this AfD are clearly already aware of this option, and changing the template midway through may somehow break (or confuse) the file system. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:18, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
The Nova Scotia stuff
[edit]The source for "....temperatures reaching a record breaking 45 degrees with humidex in Greenwood, Nova Scotia" mentioned neither "45" nor "humidex", so I have removed it. The expression "45 degrees with humidex" is also very doubtful. Humidex tells us that "degrees" doesn't belong. Unless someone can correctly rewrite and source it, that sentence should disappear. Aftermath section
[edit]Where I live, and it's not even in the tropics, severe thunderstorm warnings and rainfall predictions of up to 50 mm happen several times a year. Unless that claim is put is some sort of context, such as "This has never happened before", the claim is meaningless. HiLo48 (talk) 23:36, 9 July 2018 (UTC)
People die in every heat wave
[edit]The article contains lines like "70 people dies due to the heat wave". Ignoring the appalling English (does anyone care enough to fix that), my response is "So what, people die in every heat wave". Unless the number is put in some sort of context, such as comparing it with what happens in an average summer heat wave (maybe it's 100!), it's meaningless. It should be deleted.
