Requested move 4 May 2016
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: No consensus to move the article has been established within the RM time period and thus defaulting to not moved. Both the support and oppose !votes brought up good points. Per Amakuru's talk page, it is brought up that special characters should not be used in titles, although Amakuru brought up that an "X" should not be used as a substitute for a multiplication sign. Since the title with an X (instead of a multiplication sign) redirect here, and the oppose votes bring up points that "override" MOS:TM (as well as the discussion on Amakuru's talk page) I've closed this as no consensus. 2×4 Roller Derby → 2x4 Roller Derby – The current article title has a weird X character that does not conform with the alphanumeric name of this team, which is 2x4 Roller Derby. The weird x character cannot be typed in the URL bar of the browser. The right way, "2x4 Roller Derby" currently redirects to this article, but it should become the main title. I wouldn't know how to move the page, while there is an existing redirect. Could you guys help me? Thanks a lot! Candyman (talk) 18:38, 4 May 2016 (UTC) --Relisted. - support MOS:TM this should not use special characters that are not typable; even the logo uses a full size X and not the times symbol -- 70.51.200.96 (talk) 07:00, 5 May 2016 (UTC)

- Support per above.--Staberinde (talk) 21:08, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose - what? No. It's two-by-four, not two-ex-four, and the correct symbol for "by" is the multiplication symbol. This is not a trademark, it's just accuracy per normal English spelling. See also, for example, 4×400 metres relay at the Olympics. Obviously 2x4 Roller Derby remains a redirect, so it's not tha someone typing that will not find what they're looking for.. — Amakuru (talk) 12:04, 12 May 2016 (UTC)
- Support per MOS:TM.
When deciding how to format a trademark, editors should choose among styles already in use by sources (not invent new ones) and then choose the style that most closely resembles standard English, regardless of the preference of the trademark owner.
CookieMonster755 📞 ✉ ✓ 00:28, 13 May 2016 (UTC)- This is not a trademark at all, I'm not sure why MOS:TM is relevant here. That symbol × is the correct symbol for mathematical multiplication, in standard English. Using an x is incorrect, it's not an X, it just looks a bit like one. I politely request the closing admin to think very carefully about all the support votes invoking MOS:TM, because the logic is flawed. And also see 4×400 metres relay at the Olympics. — Amakuru (talk) 09:21, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

- Oppose. See the discussion on User talk:Amakuru. Anarchyte (work | talk) 09:49, 23 May 2016 (UTC)
- Oppose, since the multiplication sign is not the same as 'x'. The other title would be a useful redirect, though. kennethaw88 • talk 05:36, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

@Music1201:, since this is closed as no consensus, the title should be reverted back to the original title, before Candyman prematurely moved it to the target. kennethaw88 • talk 23:11, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
