Depression numbering
[edit]I don't they they numbered the depressions back then. I believe IMD only numbered "cyclonic storms" until 2006, when they included numbers for all storms in their advisories. Normally IMD would refer to them as Depression Over <place of landfall or body of water>.Potapych (talk) 15:21, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Where is even the source for naming the depressions? Based on the Unisys archive, which has data galore for 2005, I cannot find any reference from IMD about Depression BOB or ARB. They do, however, have full advisories for the named cyclonic storms. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 22:20, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- Padget has them all listed at his 1999 season review[1]. Beyond Padgett and the WMO/ESCAP Panel document, I found no other mentions of them. Has anyone tried emailing IMD for this stuff? They have to give best tracks and summaries to other members of the panel at WMO meetings. It might be helpful since the pressure for the Orissa cyclone is the landfall pressure.Potapych (talk) 23:10, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Track Map Request
[edit]I have the tracking table for the IMD depressions. Can someone who can make the tropical cyclone track maps create these maps? I would greatly appreciate it. However, the tracks are either broken or incomplete. ACE?
[edit]Can we make an ACE chart for this season? I think it had the highest on record, so can you make a chart on it? 99.52.153.15 (talk) 03:22, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Well? Can we make an ACE chart for the season? 99.52.153.15 (talk) 15:40, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'll have it up (JTWC only) within an hour or so. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 01:07, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
- It fell just short of being the highest. Using the ATCR for the 2007 season, it falls less than 2 short of being the highest. Cyclonebiskit (talk) 01:23, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Wind measurement
[edit]What's the official wind measuring average for these areas, 3 minute average? Wasn't it 10? Anyways, the table said:
Strongest storm: 05B - 912 hPa (mbar), 260 km/h (160 mph) (3-minute sustained),
so I changed it to:
Strongest storm: 05B - 912 hPa (mbar), 240 km/h (150 mph) (3-minute sustained)
Their was an error, but I changed it to agree with the 3 minute average rather than the 260 km/hr to keep things official. Should we keep it that way, or switch to the values of the 1 minute average? --UltimateDarkloid (talk) 11:48, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
We need to keep it as 3-min as thats what the IMD uses Jason Rees (talk) 01:39, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
