5x expanded by The Rambling Man (talk) and Amakuru (talk). Nominated by The Rambling Man (talk) at 06:53, 16 June 2021 (UTC).[reply]

  • Hi The Rambling Man, review follows: confirmed article more than 5x expanded from 14 June; well written and cited inline throughout to reliable sources; I did a spot check on some random sources and found no issues with overly close paraphrasing; hook is interesting, mentioned in article and checks out to sources cited (interesting they did the centenary match by club played for, I didn't expect to see Lineker among "rest of the world"!); some may ask that the name of the sport is mentioned or otherwise made clear in the hook, but it doesn't bother me, I think Wembley is closely enough associated with football; a QPQ has been carried out. Can't see any issues here, great article - Dumelow (talk) 07:58, 16 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
  • Please avoid linking General Motors in bolded text per MOS:BOLDAVOID
  • "This edition was contested between Everton and Coventry City at Wembley" - how about Wembley Stadium for full clarity?
  • "on Saturday 1 August 1987." - not sure the day is approrpiate in this context
  • "Everton had won the 1986–87 Football League and Coventry had won the 1987 FA Cup Final to qualify for the season opener for the first time." - repetition of "had won"
  • "It was played two weeks before the new league season kicked off." - how about replacing the text in bold with a more formal phrase such as began or commenced?
  • Can the second paragraph be expanded more?

Background

[edit]
  • Wikilink Wembley Stadium to the appropriate article only on the first mention not on any other subsequent mention
  • "Coventry City's side included Scottish international David Speedie who had signed for them during the summer" - might want to avoid using seasons where possible per MOS:SEASON
  • Try to be consistent in how Coventry City is referred as in some sentences they are referred to as "Coventry" or "Coventry City"

Summary

[edit]
  • Wikilink pass, cross, header and corner to the relevant articles for non-football readers only on the first mention
  • "Speedie missed an opportunity to score after a pass from Greg Downs, Mimms saving his strike with his toe." - think there might be a word missing from the start of the second portion of this text

Details

[edit]
  • The details section might be better off with the addition of references to verify the accuracy of the information contained herein
  • Greg Downs has the code" Greg Downs" that need not be present in the article

Post-match

[edit]
  • "The sides faced one another in the First Division in the 1987–88 season, with both matches ending in 2–1 wins for the away sides," - repetition of "sides"

References

[edit]
  • References 6 and 21 are duplicates of each other
  • Reference 9 "Sharpshooter Clarke"" is missing the page number
  • No page number for Reference 29?
  • Reference 30 "Sillett plea to stage Shield in January to end first act flop" is missing the work

Shall put the review on hold to allow the nominator to address/query the points raised above MWright96 (talk) 07:43, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

MWright96 I think I addressed all of your points, many thanks for the review! The Rambling Man (Stay alert! Control the virus! Save lives!!!!) 12:24, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
