I came across this article on my wiki-travels and noticed it had been listed at GAN for quite a while, so I figured I'd offer my comments. I do see a few issues in the way of promoting this page...

  • The opening sentence isn't particularly strong. It's a little weird to introduce an entire season in the context of one storm, and if you do mention Dora in the first line, then find some other way to establish its notoriety... "most recent landfall along the First Coast" doesn't mean a whole lot unless you're intimately familiar with Florida geographical labels.
  • Hurricanes Ethel and Gladys and tropical storms Abby, Brenda, Florence, and an unnamed storm in November, as well as three other tropical depressions, resulted in minor or no impact on land. - Really hard to parse. You probably don't need to specify each storm that didn't impact land, anyway.
  • Watch out for dangling participles. Examples just from the lead:
  • All of the hurricanes strengthened into major hurricanes,[nb 1] which had not occurred since 1930.
    • After moving inland, flooding occurred in states such as Virginia.
  • Collectively, each tropical cyclone resulted in 270 fatalities and approximately $609.5 million in damage. - collectively, each?
  • The rate of tropical cyclogenesis accelerated in August - This could mean a couple different things. Clarify?
  • You use "thereafter" a full nine times in the article, and most of them are unnecessary.
  • Television Infrared Observation Satellite (TIROS) noted an area of disturbed weather - Some pedantry: the satellite didn't note the disturbed wx... forecasters did ;)
  • Lots of unlinked/unexplained jargon (tropical wave, trough, "diffused frontal trough", extratropical, etc.)
  • The first two paragraphs for Cleo are dreadfully dry. Since there's a subarticle, we can probably boil it down to the most important bits.
    • Same for Dora
  • Not sure it's entirely within the scope of this GAN, but the casualty figures for Cleo are not even close to consistent between the season and storm articles. At the very least, could you verify that yours is the correct figure?
  • Tides also affected the Mid-Atlantic, New England, and Atlantic Canada. - Tides affect lots of places!

You have a good base of content, it just needs a little polishing and touching-up in places. On-hold for now. Nice work! – Juliancolton | Talk 02:13, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
