Wisconsin's colors in the template

I agree with the reference here that Wisconsin's colors are Cardinal and White, however when they're displayed in the Template:CollegePrimaryStyle text box, it uses black with cardinal instead of white, and it's harder to read. I'm not able to post a visual example here, but it can be seen at this page.

I'm requesting a change is made to display the correct school colors, which would also be easier to read.

Thanks! Frank12 (talk) 04:28, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

I've also noticed there's a similar issue with Northwestern. Instead of displaying purple and white, it shows black text on the purple background and vice-versa. Frank12 (talk) 18:57, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Dixie State University aka Dixie State Trailblazers have changed their name, hoping to get it updated here, so all the many infoboxes etc can be updated. The new name is Utah Tech Trailblazers of (Utah Tech University) all associated main article pages have already moved etc. Just would like to be able to update templates, categories etc with colors.

Citation at end shows current branding package. (SHOULD STAY THE SAME FOR COLORS) this university has had a LOT of change between names(7+all dixie related), colors(used to be red and grey), and mascots(3) in 111 years, they kept colors the same for -some- consistency. Additionally, added the previous names/mascots of Dixie State for AKA (used in many historical articles etc.)

There are 7+more names (Dixie: -Normal College, -Junior College, -State college of Utah, etc. But the ones listed below (Dixie, in concert with their previous two mascots and one variation should suffice.(Dixie Rebels, which was the main namesake for the longest period.) [1][2][3] LikeGrantTookRichmond (talk) 07:38, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

Additionally, how table is set up, it'd need to be re-alphabetized from "D" to "U"

Not done for now @PensRule11385: Please do not use trucolor.com as it is not a reliable source. I have found several times where the color codes are actually incorrect. Most univeristy and athletic departments have their own brand guide, which you can often find on their websites. For example, St. Thomas can be found on the athletics website here, which states their color codes are "512773", "FFFFFF", "98999B". I also have one other request, please do not use all caps for the titles. I'll add St. Thomas, however, I won't add Mercyhurst until a more reliable source can be given. Corky 01:31, 7 September 2022 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: Ok, I think this one might work better for Mercyhurst. {"1A554B", "FFFFFF", "1C294D", name1="forest green", name3="navy", cite=""Mercyhurst University Colors". Retrieved September 6, 2022."},
@PensRule11385: Here is what the PSAC Conference lists, which would be more reliable. Let me check on Wednesday to see if I can find something on the school’s website. If you can’t ever find one, you can always right click on the athletics website and inspect element, and look for the colors there. That’s more reliable than a third-party source like the ones your listing. I’m not sure where they get those colors from. Corky 04:59, 7 September 2022 (UTC)

For the Nevada Wolf Pack, there are two "title" parameters. The first says "Approved Colors" and the second says "University of Nevada, Reno Visual Identity and Logos". This is causing a CS1 error. One has to be deleted, but according to their web site (at https://www.unr.edu/brand/visual-identity), the correct title should be "Visual Identity – The Block N Logo".

Thanks in advance for fixing this. Ira Leviton (talk) 16:03, 12 September 2022 (UTC)

The color codes for the Denver Pioneers have recently been altered to reflect the school's brand guidelines, however, I believe this is in error. The colors displayed at DU Colors are for the university and not the athletic department. Athletics colors are displayed here: Branding Guide. Unless the changes are also for the athletic department and simply have yet to be updated (possible since the last revision for the athletic branding came in December 2021), the colors for this module should reverted to #862633 and #866d4b.

PensRule11385 (talk) 17:20, 22 October 2022 (UTC)

@PensRule11385: I'll self revert for now, however, I changed them because they've started using a new logo (women's soccer, men's soccer, etc.) in game notes, and the colors are different -- as are the colors on the website. Sometimes the website takes a little longer to get updated, but I've sent their licensing director an email asking for clarification. Hopefully they respond. Corky 20:21, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
@Corkythehornetfan: It appears that Denver has now updated all of its athletics to match the new university colors. While I can't tell if the uniforms have been altered as of yet, the school's athletic website has now changed its color scheme official site.
@PensRule11385: Am I good to self-revert now? The uniforms will take time, but that’s a minor thing. As long as the website and logos are updated, that’s what we’ll go off of. I’ll update the logo to and SVG logo later today. Corky 05:44, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
I went ahead and reverted it to reflect the new colors. Thanks! Corky 08:14, 28 October 2022 (UTC)

I don't know if you can add colors for Canadian colleges but I was hoping you could add the colors of the Thompson Rivers WolfPack of Thompson Rivers University. Unfortunately their official website's page on the topic is silent as to the exact colors but the hexcodes used in the infobox on the Thompson Rivers WolfPack Wikipedia article are 000000 for the primary and FF7028 for the secondary. --Dennis C. Abrams (talk) 15:27, 17 November 2022 (UTC)

@Denniscabrams: Yes we can, I’ll add them later today. I found their color palette. Corky 16:36, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
I had seen the page to which you linked but none of those colors are consistent with the colors used in their athletic branding. Why any school would do that is bizarre to me but maybe it's a Canadian thing? Dennis C. Abrams (talk) 21:14, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
I’ll probably have to pull it from the actual athletics website by right-clicking and ‘inspecting the element’ tool. We’ll get it figured out! American universities do the same thing. lol Corky 21:49, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
@Denniscabrams:  Done I've added it to the module and have made the appropriate changes to the WolfPack article. I extracted a color of  #FF6532  from the athletics website. Sorry for the delay! Corky 02:42, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

I can't seem to figure out how/where to add a new school. I'm looking to add the Concordia Bulldogs which use Navy hex1 = 192c53 and white hex2 = FFFFFF as their colors[1]

Some incorrect colors, and other thoughts

Noticed a few incorrect colors while parsing through the data by hand, after extracting and writing a program to convert to tables, for use in a project. Syracuse Orange colors per official university branding should be color 1 F76900 "Syracuse University Orange", color 2 FFFFFF (no name, in line with other accent colors in table), and color 3 000E54 (Syracuse calls it Primary Blue, but it's not an official color of the university, so it should remain unnamed in line with other colors in the table). (source: https://www.syracuse.edu/about/brand/) Eastern Arizona colors should be color 1 5C2D91 purple, color 2 FFFFFF (no name), and color 3 FBAF33 orange. (source: https://www.eac.edu/media/branding/). Indiana Tech is missing its color names (orange, white, and black). Riverside City is missing its color names (black, <no name for the white color 2>, and orange). Becker is missing the name for its second color, white, which is one of the school colors (blue and white). The Grantham name is wrong (should be Grantham Fighting Eagles; the mascot's name is Talon, not the team), and it's missing the school's secondary color, yellow. Grantham has no style guide, but the best I could do by extracting from official logos is color 1 1B559E blue, color 2 D7D7D7 <unnamed accent grey>, color 3 FDE92B yellow. Graceland Yellowjackets mistakenly have both gold and black as color 3; judging by the hex codes, gold should be color 2 instead. American University of Beirut only names black, but since the university colors are red and white, it should have color1 red and color2 white and not name black. Erskine is missing its color names; should be color 1 garnet and color 3 gold. Carlisle is missing its color names; should be color 1 red, color 2 white, color 3 gold. The dark green hex3 for Chaminade Silverswords is strange; it's not a school color, and the linked document is not an appropriate style guide, only casually mentioning the university's colors as royal blue and white. The actual brand guide doesn't mention this color at all, and the school seems to have rebranded away from royal blue and white into blues and grey (source: https://chaminade.edu/ucm/brand-center/). To match the linked guide, Chaminade Silverswords colors should be changed to color 1 0E20A4 blue, color 2 000000 (unnamed white), color 3 D9D9D6 silver. Lee Flames colors are out of order and mislabeled; hex1 is some sort of dark blue, but their primary color is maroon, which is hex3. I think they should be color 1 6F263D maroon, color 2 FFFFFF white, color 3 0D233F (unnamed dark blue accent; not school color, but strong in uniforms). Fordham Rams has a dark gold color 3 that I don't see any evidence of being used in their uniforms or official use (see https://www.fordham.edu/info/27257/fordham_colors), so I think it should be removed.

The Citadel and Concordia Cobbers color names are not in order, which is not strictly a problem, but makes issues when converting to other data structures. I'm not sure why the Upper Iowa Peacocks have an unnamed black as color 1; school colors are peacock blue and white in that order, and most branding seems to use blue as the primary. Tampa Spartans has the same thing going on; it seems like red should be color1, black an unnamed color 2 (for accents), gold color 3, and then no color 4 (or an unnamed FFFFFF white; still not sure how that works based on other teams). Generally homogenization of punctuation, spacing, etc. across the data for format would help numerous errors during processing. It would be useful to explain in commented text what is the definition of color1, color2, etc., and why black and white color2 are usually not named as such (it seems to be because they're not in the official University colors, just used as accents?) What is the logic of the order of colors? It seems like universities with two strong colors will have these as color1 and color3, and will have black or white as color2. Why? This would help to be explained. UTEP Miners uses "silver accent" as its name for color 4; should this be used for all accent colors that are not an official university color? This isn't just for the unnamed whites and blacks that dominate color2, but for things like Georgia Tech's color 3 blue and Arkansas-Fort Smith's color 3 red.

Also, it seems Martin Methodist Redhawks have added Tennessee orange to their colors and changed named to UT Southern FireHawks https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/2021/06/30/martin-methodist-joins-university-tennessee-system-new-mascot/7795348002/. So, the new entry would look like this: ["UT Southern FireHawks"] = {"FF8200", "FFFFFF", "C8102E", "A2AAAD" name1="orange", name3="UTSo Red", cite="UT Southern brand guide (PDF). Retrieved November 22, 2021."},

Also, consider adding the following: ["Susquehanna River Hawks"] = {"651C32", "FFFFFF", "FF6A14", "C1C6C8" name1="maroon", name3="orange", cite="Athletic Communications. Retrieved November 22, 2021."}, — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.84.124.105 (talk) 23:06, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

@Kiran891 and Pppery: I'm (kind of) reverting this change for two reasons and replacing it with the following codes #D74100 and #0C233F (taken from Cuse.com - the official athletics website):
  • Their Quick Facts says PMS 1665 (it's from 2020 but still verifies athletics colors as the website shows)
  • The ACC Brand Guide says PMS 1665; PMS 289 for blue (#0c233f taken from 'inspect source' on athletics website)
I've been hesitant for a while now to change it to Kiran891's requested edits because Athletics and Academics are clearly different as evident in the media productions they produce (websites, Athletics game notes, media guides, etc.). Thanks, Corky 21:17, 19 December 2022 (UTC)

It's generating a CS1 error in all the articles in which it appears. I also incidentally noticed that in the Fontbonne Griffins entry, Fontbonne University is in allcaps. It should not be, according to MOS. Thanks for correcting Ira Leviton (talk) 18:18, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Completed, and good catches! P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 21:14, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Kansas Jayhawks

On their style template, it is red lettering with a blue background. I had a similar color scheme on my signature a long time ago and had accessibility concerns mentioned to me about it, specifically for people with color blindness. While these are their correct colors, I understand the concern, especially for smaller areas like most of the places this is used at. An example of this a now reverted version the current men's basketball season [[ https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2022–23_Kansas_Jayhawks_men%27s_basketball_team&oldid=1143424700#Schedule_and_results here]. I feel like this might need to be changed.--Rockchalk717 17:59, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

@Rockchalk717: I don't think the colors in the module needs changed, but perhaps the settings in Template:CollegePrimaryStyle and its sub-templates might need changed? We should discuss at a WikiProject and/or get Frietjes' thoughts. Corky 00:04, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
I would be happy to make Template:CollegePrimaryStyle automatically select the correct font color, if there is consensus to do so. right now, we override this with |color=white like in Template:Mountain West Conference navbox. if you use |color=auto it will automatically select the highest contrast font color. we could make this the default. 16:02, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
@Frietjes: I'd be in favor of that! @Rockchalk717: what's your thoughts? Corky 00:04, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
I'm cool with that as well!--Rockchalk717 03:56, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
I put something in the module sandbox that will make |color=auto the default. Frietjes (talk) 23:42, 9 March 2023 (UTC)

Shippensburg Raiders

Please add an aka value of 'Shippensburg Raiders' to the Shippensburg Red Raiders entry so that the team article will (presumably) automatically display the team colors in its infobox. —ADavidB 09:11, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

To editor ADavidB: the brand has been changed from the "Shippensburg Red Raiders" to the "Shippensburg Raiders", and the former is expressly unsanctioned in the Brand Guide. So I've removed the "Red" from the brand and updated the dead link. P.I. Ellsworth , ed. put'er there 11:50, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Please add the Carthage Firebirds of Carthage College. Unfortunately, I can't find hexcodes for their colors. The school's FAQ about the Firebirds says their official colors are simply "red, black, and white." Their athletics site doesn't seem to have any info on the topic. The shade of red used in the infobox for their Wikipedia article is #CC0000, for whatever that's worth. I'm still not really sure how this process works so please let me know if there's anything else I need to do. --Dennis C. Abrams (talk) 05:01, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

@Denniscabrams: I located the athletics brand guide from their website, I’ll get it added later today. Corky 15:34, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
@Denniscabrams: It's been added; I changed the entry to "Carthage Firebirds", since they changed names in 2021. The former name is still listed below in the event we have historical articles for the former name. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Corky 21:52, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
