Eranga Weeraratne is a Sri Lankan politician, engineer, and business executive who was appointed as a National List Member of Parliament in 2024 under the National People's Power (NPP) government.[1]

Early Life and Education

Weeraratne completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Moratuwa, earning a degree in engineering in 2000.

Career

Weeraratne has held prominent positions in the technology sector:

  • Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Omobio, a leading telecommunication solutions provider in Sri Lanka, since 2014. Under his leadership, Omobio expanded its reach to over 20 countries, serving more than 300 million mobile subscribers.[2]
  • CTO at Wavenet, a position he held from 2003 to 2010, where he contributed to developing and enhancing digital telecommunication services.

Under his leadership, Omobio gained recognition for its innovations in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, expanding globally with offices in multiple countries and plans for further growth into Europe, Africa, and the Americas. [3]

Political Career

Weeraratne was appointed to the 17th Parliament of Sri Lanka as part of the NPP's National List in 2024. His selection reflects the party's emphasis on including experienced professionals and innovative leaders to guide policy and national development.[4]
