Ramraj Cotton is an Indian textile company, known for its cotton products, especially traditional dhotis. The company was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, India. The company had a turnover of ₹1200 crores in the financial year 2017.[1]

History and growth

Ramraj Cotton was founded by Mr. K.R. Nagarajan in 1983. The company began with a focus on manufacturing cotton dhotis, a traditional Indian garment. Over the years, Ramraj Cotton has expanded its product line to include shirts, innerwear, and other cotton-based apparel.[2]

The brand has over 275 stores across India, retailing their range of products.[3]

Innovations

In 2024, Ramraj Cotton celebrated Vetti Vaaram (Dhoti Week) from January 1 to 7. The aim was to support agriculturalists and rural weavers.[4]

In 2023, they unveiled a silk dhoti collection, including one variant that cost ₹100000.[5] 

In 2022, for the 44th Chess Olympiad, they launched the 'Thambi Dhotis', bordered with black and white checks to resemble a chessboard. The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, sported this dhoti along with a matching shawl.[6][7]

In 2018, they launched Velcro Veshtis with pockets to target the younger generation.[8]

In 2017, Ramraj launched vests to tap into the ₹5,000 crore market.[9]

Brand Ambassadors

Actors Rishab Shetty and Yash have been brand ambassadors for Ramraj Cotton in recent years.[10][11]

Investments

The Ramraj Group signed an MoU with the Government of Tamil Nadu at the Global Investors Meet 2024. They committed to invest ₹1,000 crores over the next five years. Founder and Chairman of Ramraj Cotton K.R. Nagarajan said that the group plans to invest ₹200 crores a year to set up textile processing, weaving and spinning units. At the end of five years, the investment is expected to create 5,000 jobs.[12] References

On August 22, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, inaugurated two new units in Erode and Tiruppur. These are expected to create over 7000 jobs and boost the state's economy.[13]
