Prithi Nambiar[1] is an Indian author,[2] editor[3] and communications specialist[4] in the field of environment and sustainable development education and communication[5]. She is heading the Interpretation and Communication programmes at the Centre for Environment Education (CEE), India's foremost envinonmental education organization,[6] established in 1984 by the Ministry of Environment, Government of India. She was instrumental in establishing CEE's Australian office [7] in Sydney[8] in 2001.
Born in 1961 as a descendant of ancient Nambiar clans of Kalliat,[9] Kannur, Kerala, Prithi Nambiar got her PhD in International Communications from Macquarie University,[10] Sydney. She has developed[11] and edited[12] a range of landmark publications[13] on alternative development models and approaches in areas that include climate change, renewable energy, gender issues and biodiversity. She has also trained several batches[14] of interns in Environmental and Sustainable Development writing and reporting. Prithi Nambiar is the Editor of the Journal of Education for Sustainable Development (JESD) (published by Sage), the only international journal in the field of Education for Sustainable Development. She is known for spearheading a successful media campaign to conserve the Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary in Gujarat in 1994.[15]
