He represents Team Italy in international competitions and is a member of Lu Gia Jen’s first team, which competes in the Judo Liga’s Eerste Regionale Liga (first regional league) in Zuid-West Nederland.[1]

Early Life and Education

Luca Girotti was born on July 22, 2000, in Pavia, Italy. He began practicing judo at the age of four in Bruxelles, Belgium, at "Naessens Budocollege," the oldest budo club in Belgium. He trained under senseis Pierre Citti and Roger Hannoset (who has since passed away), gaining a strong foundation in judo from an early age.[2] In addition to his athletic career, Luca holds a bachelor's degree in Computer Science from the University of Ferrara and is currently pursuing a master's degree in Artificial Intelligence at Leiden University.

Career

Luca Girotti competes in the -100 kg weight category for Team Italy. Throughout his career, he has represented Italy in numerous international tournaments. Notably, he participated in a masterclass by Kosei Inoue, an Olympic and world champion, in Lommel, Belgium, in 2024. Girotti was one of only two Italians invited to attend the masterclass, an event covered by Belgian television.[3][4]

In addition to his international competitions, Girotti fights for the Lu Gia Jen club in Den Haag (The Netherlands), competing in the Judo Liga’s first division.[5]

His latest achievement was winning the bronze medal at the National Student Championship in the Netherlands in June 2023.[6]

Currently, Luca trains at the Lu Gia Jen club in Den Haag, where he hones his judo skills and competes at a regional level in the Netherlands. The club has a reputation for nurturing top-level athletes, and Luca is a key member of its first team.[9]
